If you have not heard...I guess the Senior Bowl is showing off more than the talent of players.  It looks like Jack Del Rio and his staff are making a name for themselves as well.  I took this from Matt Maguires posts on WalterFootball.com.

Let me just sincerely applaud the Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff for actually caring about coaching the game this week. I have been impressed with their intensity and attention to detail. On the other hand, Jack Del Rio couldn't care less about this game.

For example, in the morning practice, the Bengals made the North team do a lot of 1v1s with the receivers and defensive backs. They spent a large chunk of time on red zone offense. I was impressed when the coaching staff practiced game simulation in the 2 minute drill with ball spikes and paying attention to the clock. A draftnik friend of mine was telling me the Bengals special teams coach was practicing holding, punting, and place kicking with the special-teamers. What a tremendous opportunity for these kids to get that level of focus and instruction. Kudos to Marvin Lewis and his staff. So many people missed out on a great morning practice.

Let's just say if you can find a Vegas point spread for this game, bet the North team and bet them BIG. Del Rio ended practice today 10 minutes early, the coaches and players were lackadaisical on the field, and I felt like the lack of preparation for practice really showed. It wouldn't shock me if Del Rio is gone after this season because I can see why the Jaguars looked lethargic in games. Today was basically a walkthrough for the South team and I don't think the Jags coaching staff really cares at all. If you didn't want to be here, then don't coach in this game and waste a great opportunity for these seniors in this prestigious week.

Shocker indeed.

This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

Yep, saw that

I was sort of torn about that. On one hand, screw division rivals, even though I don’t mind the Jags as much as the Titans (easier to like someone when they suck), and actually like Houston’s players. But the thing that sort of pissed me off is that the Senior Bowl is supposed to be an opportunity for scouts, fans, and teams to see players that have question marks, see diamonds in the rough, and legitimize elite college talent and how it applies to other elite players. It’s easy to run for 1.5k yards in college and never be better or more talented than a practice squad RB in the NFL. The Senior Bowl is one of the best measuring sticks for probably 10-15 first round picks and more in the 2-7. That’s why Matt was pissed, and I don’t blame him one bit. I’d be much happier with Del Rio coaching his ass off and them saying “Great job by Del Rio all around.” and find out there’s 2 more DTs that could end up in the 2-3 round and other players that might suit our system. Rremember, we get alot of undrafted players that everyone thinks are garbage and they suit our system better than a high draft pick would. Del Rio didn’t just make himself look bad, he did a disservice to the entire league by taking away not only dudes trying to prove themselves, but an even playing field for scouts to base their analysis on. The South will probably get stomped and everyone will think nobody is worth anything there when there could be 2-3 guys that could’ve proven they’re legit NFL starters. And now they have to go put up insane combine numbers to compete and the combine is not nearly as effective in judging player talent as a game or watching practices are. The Navy S.E.A.L.s, and other elite military units don’t go assemble the best potential candidates and then take them to Starbucks and evaluate them on how well their table manners are.

Love the Navy S.E.A.L.s comment

And agree with the sentiment. Hopefully our coaches can find any diamonds if there is roughage.

Thx for posting the info

Jack might be coasting until his contract is up in Jax. Who knows. Who cares. He sucks.

ahem...

Jack Del Rio is a great coach! The best coach in the AFC South. Wayne Weaver, you have done an excellent job of identifying a young, talented head coach, and all you have to do now is give him the time to blossom. It took someone like Cowher, like Belichick, like Coughlin (whom you used to employ), and like even someone like Shanahan to really blossom and win a super bowl. Give Jack time. Maybe give him more money. Maybe give him more time and money. Look, Wayne, you’re a young guy, you have the ability to wait 10-15 years for Jack to really come into his own. I think you should wait it out and see what a marvel of a coach he becomes.

Also, what does Jack have in common with the other coaches I mentioned? That’s right, Wayne, you should give him full control of football operations. He’d be a great Coach/GM. He has a real eye for talent. Only after giving him everything he wants/needs to succeed will your franchise realize its potentianl. Good luck!

I’ve always thought Marv Lewis was wasted on the Bengals. Then again, I don’t know how much influence he has on personnel decisions. But he seems like a nice guy doing a fair job of making a pretty poor team competitive.

Marv Lewis

If this story is true, you have to wonder how much of a cancer a guy like Chad Johnson really is. It sounds like Marv Lewis’s staff comes to work every day and teaches the right things.

But you have a clown like Ocho Cinco that might be harming the team even more than other more famous WR diva’s.

It also didn’t help at all that Carson Palmer was hurt last year.
