2008 NFL Playoffs: Wild Card Game #1- Open Thread
This is your open thread for the first game today. Use the NFL Scoreboard hub link button below to track what Revenge of the Birds and The Falcoholic are writing about the game, along with the rest of SB Nation's great football blogs. I know some of you are nervous (because that is your tendency during playoff time), but if you can take the time to watch the early game and see what our guys are writing about it. Get the nervous jitters out of your system, and have a little faith.
These are the playoffs. You're supposed to enjoy them, not fret nervously over them.

I think Collinsworth is calling this game…

Yeah
I’m feeling the Falco’s in this game.
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
Um, Matty Ice? You guys are wearing white today, not red.

Holy Shit
That was a fucking catch for the ages.

OMG Flea Flicker!!!
What a catch by Fitzgerald

Well
It looks like it’s just me and you there, MrNFL

Sweet
What’s up Zack? How’s that 70 degree weather, damn you?
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
Probably 80
But I wasn’t trying to depress myself too much. I freeze my digits everytime I go for a smoke.

I can't believe
How well the Arizona defense is playing
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
He looks worn down
Guys who have that many carries always seem to suck by playoff time

Because
They realize they’ll need him in the playoffs. And they realized that he was pretty pissed after he mouthed off earlier this week.

stopping in on the home desktop (which doesn't have a view of a TV)
Thoughts so far
sick catch by Fitz, Turner’s numbers are the product of the massive # of carries he got, despite acknowledging he’s very good and I was wrong I still hate Matty Ice.
Shonn Greene for Heisman
Doak Walker award winner
144 yards per game
6.2 yards per carry
08 TDs per game > 06 GPA
Yeah, it's pretty brutal
At least we get Al Michaels

I guess NBC is leaving their A team
for the Colts/Chargers tilt
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
So we get Ron Winter as referee tonight
His crew likes to call Pass Interference, and called that ridiculous penalty on Jennings for Defensive Delay of Game on the punt.
I’m sure there will be 1 or 2 bad calls. Hopefully they go the right way for us.
14-3 Actually
But I guess that’s just semantics

THis is REALLY gonna F with my family's playoff smackdown challenge...
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Saw that
That’s a pretty smart marketing gimick
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
adn thats why the Falcons should have gone for it
You cant settle for FG’s against a team like the Cardinals
They were probably hoping they'd be playing the December Cardinals
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
C'm on, there should be a law against dance competition ads during the playoffs
especially the kind where the commentators have to read them.

I hate what TV has become...

Matt Ryan really impresses me atm
I have this gut feeling that if this one comes down to a nailbiter, Warner will crumble under the pressure before Matty Ice.
Nice catch Urban,,,
Visit FanIQ.com for sports news, bloggings, polls, and more!
Warner is such a liability..
He will break the Cardinals’ fans’ hearts.
Not that the INT was his fault though
Marcus Pollard!!!
Visit FanIQ.com for sports news, bloggings, polls, and more!
Not gonna lie, the grouping of Costas, Millen and Bettis is FAR better than having Collinsdouche and Olbermann there.
Visit FanIQ.com for sports news, bloggings, polls, and more!
but can you take a network that employs Millen as a football analyist seriously?

Tony Dungy
like Brett Favre except decisive (and still good)

I hope Tony comes back
A great Coach and even better man. But ill respect his decision and at least he doesnt take forever like Favre to decide.
Yes, he's smart to be honest and say simply that he's not saying because he knows he's changed his mind before.
He’s honest, not coy. He actually doesn’t want to be the center of attention.
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
I think the reason why Dungy is not sure right now
is because he doesnt want to make the mistake Bill Walsh made. Walsh Stated that retiring too early was probably the biggest regret of his life.

Battery is dying Be back for the Colts' game.

Pre game prep
OK, I’ve got my “away” #4 jersey on, my colts tankard full of rum & Coke Zero, my Colts fleece on my lap, and very importantly, the Jagermeister in the freezer.
The Jaeg is important because my hubby has agreed to reprise our drinking game of past years in which we have a Jaeg Bomb (w/ Red Bull) after each Adam V. playoff field goal.
The Cards vs. Falcs is just a lovely appetizer for the real focus of the day. GO COLTS!
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Lucky
I wish my husband I rooted for the same team, but he just fed me a taste of my own medicine by saying he hoped the Colts go 1-and-out. That’s ok – the hatin’ goes both ways between my Colts and his Pats. At least we still have a solid marriage otherwise. I think.
Uh, we didn't exactly root for the same team that year.
He (and the kids) are die-hard Bears fans, but that preseason we were excited for both our teams to advance in the playoffs. They did, and we rooted for each other all the way, with the very notable exception of the Superbowl itself.
Took a while for him to recover from that, but now he’s OK again to root for the Colts when the Bears aren’t involved.
Must be tough to have a Pats/Colts union though!! Yeesh. So many AFC champ games! :)

Unbelievable. I had the Falcons winning, hands down.
Great game to watch tho.

I love listening to the critics try to adapt their own opinions to suit whatever is playing out under their noses
Like we never heard what they said in the first quarter. Happens all the time.

The Cards sure didn't make much out of the INT, but it stopped the Falcs.

Who's calling tonight's game?
I just noticed that NBC has both the games today, back to back. Please, please don’t say we have to endure marble-mouthed Madden and his man-crushes on various players…
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Yeah
Its Madden and Michaels. I actually like them

Thanks for the info.
I guess it’ll be ok. Since it’s not the Steelers playing, we don’t have to hear John Madden describe Big Ben’s thighs.
And really, as long as it’s Colts postseason, who cares???
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
Better than having Collinsworth/Hammond
Who are both awful. At least Michaels is great

Geez, safety
I can’t believe the Cardinals are doing this well
Visit FanIQ.com for sports news, bloggings, polls, and more!
I think
The Cards had more on the line here. They haven’t hosted a playoff game in 61 years. That’s a long ass time for your franchise to suck. This is about pride.

WHOA!
That ref grabbed the Cardinals players’ junk! That’s gotta be illegal.
Visit FanIQ.com for sports news, bloggings, polls, and more!
Unbelievable
Looks like the Falcons were a bit of a fraud as well, choking under pressure.
I still don’t believe in the Cardinals

Interesting take....perhaps he is at that.
May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.
he might be playing his way out of Indy's price range
He’s said he wants to come home, but he took cash over home once already.
