2008 NFL Playoffs: Wild Card Game #1- Open Thread
This is your open thread for the first game today. Use the NFL Scoreboard hub link button below to track what Revenge of the Birds and The Falcoholic are writing about the game, along with the rest of SB Nation's great football blogs. I know some of you are nervous (because that is your tendency during playoff time), but if you can take the time to watch the early game and see what our guys are writing about it. Get the nervous jitters out of your system, and have a little faith.
These are the playoffs. You're supposed to enjoy them, not fret nervously over them.

Speaking of Edge, Why is he playing?
by colts9318rock on Jan 3, 2009 5:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Because
They realize they’ll need him in the playoffs. And they realized that he was pretty pissed after he mouthed off earlier this week.

sick catch by Fitz, Turner’s numbers are the product of the massive # of carries he got, despite acknowledging he’s very good and I was wrong I still hate Matty Ice.

So we get Ron Winter as referee tonight
His crew likes to call Pass Interference, and called that ridiculous penalty on Jennings for Defensive Delay of Game on the punt.
I’m sure there will be 1 or 2 bad calls. Hopefully they go the right way for us.

Yes, he's smart to be honest and say simply that he's not saying because he knows he's changed his mind before.
He’s honest, not coy. He actually doesn’t want to be the center of attention.

by juperee on Jan 3, 2009 6:14 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I think the reason why Dungy is not sure right now
is because he doesnt want to make the mistake Bill Walsh made. Walsh Stated that retiring too early was probably the biggest regret of his life.

Pre game prep
OK, I’ve got my “away” #4 jersey on, my colts tankard full of rum & Coke Zero, my Colts fleece on my lap, and very importantly, the Jagermeister in the freezer.
The Jaeg is important because my hubby has agreed to reprise our drinking game of past years in which we have a Jaeg Bomb (w/ Red Bull) after each Adam V. playoff field goal.
The Cards vs. Falcs is just a lovely appetizer for the real focus of the day. GO COLTS!

Lucky
I wish my husband I rooted for the same team, but he just fed me a taste of my own medicine by saying he hoped the Colts go 1-and-out. That’s ok – the hatin’ goes both ways between my Colts and his Pats. At least we still have a solid marriage otherwise. I think.
by LovinBlue on Jan 3, 2009 6:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Uh, we didn't exactly root for the same team that year.
He (and the kids) are die-hard Bears fans, but that preseason we were excited for both our teams to advance in the playoffs. They did, and we rooted for each other all the way, with the very notable exception of the Superbowl itself.
Took a while for him to recover from that, but now he’s OK again to root for the Colts when the Bears aren’t involved.
Must be tough to have a Pats/Colts union though!! Yeesh. So many AFC champ games! :)
