2008 NFL Playoffs Wild Card: Indianapolis Colts at San Diego Chargers- Open Thread

Indianapolis Colts at San Diego Chargers, Jan 3, 2009 8:00 PM EST

AT

2008 NFL Playoff Wild Card: Indianapolis Colts (12-4) at San Diego Chargers (8-8)
Location: Qualcomm Stadium- San Diego, CA
Kick-off Time: 8:00pm Eastern
Broadcast: NBC
SB Nation Co-Blog:
Bolts From The Blue

Well, here we are. This is what we love to see: Two red hot, very strong teams going toe-to-toe in a playoff game in prime time. Regardless of what some may say, the Chargers very much deserve to be in the playoffs. Like our guys, they have battled through injuries and inconsistency. And, like our guys, they hung together. The Chargers are a very tough, scrappy team led by a QB who has turned the corner. Believe it or not, I'm happy the Chargers are the Colts' first opponent. They are a fine team, and a very worthy opponent.

As always, enjoy this open thread for the game. Likely, more threads will pop up as the game goes on. We will do our best to keep up. Our Colts have battled back to have a glorious regular season. But now, that is all long forgotten. After the rocky roller coaster of the 2008 regular season, my best advice is to just sit back and watch our team, led by the league's MVP, do their thing. If you are nervous, if you have playoff jitters, then all I can say is this:

Never doubt.

For a great take from a Chargers fan's perspective, please visit DaBolts at Bolts From The Blue.

Please, enjoy the game everyone. No matter what, enjoy it. Go Colts!

GO COLTS!!!

I wonder why we dont have Antonio Johnson in the lineup. I think its a mistake having him inactive, but I trust Dungy and the Colts after all we have seen.

He's active...

its Curtis Johnson that is inactive.

As a point of reference

It’s 25 right now here in Denver, with about an inch and a half of snow on the ground. It actually just stopped snowing a little bit ago.

At least the weather is nicer in SD. We didn’t have to constantly here about how the Colts can’t win in the snow.

I keep telling myself...

We beat 5 playoff teams, San Diego hasn’t beat one.

9-0 is our streak versus an oppenent’s record that is above 500 and Charges are 4-0 against a losing record

yes lets remember

the chargers beat a crappy oakland team, a worse KC team becuase a miracle, a fading choking bucs team, and a fading choking broncos team…. not impressed….

"Hoosier in sodak", eh?

I drove thru SoDak last year and stopped at the South Dakota hall of fame. I looked for a mention of Vinatieri (not really expecting one, since he’s still actively playing, and it’s not a sports museum anyway), but to my surprise, they had a really nice section on Felix Vinatieri, Adam’s ancestor of some number of great grandparents.

South Dakota is an awesome place. I am really considering retiring there, just cuz it’s empty and beautiful.

Screw that!

The chance of a pick six on a deep throat is so infinitsimal that there is no reason not to go for something.

D and Special teams have to do a better effort

D on short fields and Special teams on returns and coverage

by metal_militia on Jan 3, 2009 9:37 PM EST reply actions

Let me rephrase that

D on short fields, and Special Teams on everything

by metal_militia on Jan 3, 2009 9:39 PM EST up reply actions

O needs more points and to not give SD short fields

D needs to hold them to FGs when that does happen

well there's another thread

the duplicate. I’d just make that the second half thread

Re: Refs screwed the whole game

There needs to be some action from the office of the NFL about all the penalties in games. Especially in this game tonight which the Colts got screwed by so many penalties that were not really penalties in overtime. There should not be any holding from the defensive line which is crap. I think that Ron Winters and his crew or the set of refs should be fined or should not ref a playoff game again because they screwed up the colts chances of making the playoffs. The chargers are not a good team and furthermore they are a lucky team because they got help from the refs.
