HOF + 52 Stiffs

Manning , Gonzalez, Wayne, Freeney & Mathis were outstanding but where was everybody else.  After watching the game it is really disappointing.  The rest of the team is just mediocre overall.  Without Manning the team would be lucky to win more than 3 games.  Wayne and a few others can dominate from time to time but where is Harrison, Rhodes, Adddai etc?  The difference between the Colts, and Steelers, Titans, Ravens etc is that we lack toughness on defense and special teams.  Hunter Smith should  buy everyone in Indy a drink along with the rest of the special teams.  Whoever coaches those units should just pack their shit and change professions because all special teams units they are absolutely terrible.

The db's and d--line played great but where are the LB'ers?...  I have never before seen a punter win a game but that guy was unbelievable and won the game by himself.  The o-line is absolutely abyssmal and the TE's were almost invisible.  As good of a motivator & player's coach that Dungy is he is just as bad of an X & o's guy and bad as well on challenges...Is it him or the spotter's that are in a different world Can we all say that the Colts have the worst medical staff in the league or how does a fully healthy team have two scrtaches at the last minute.  I am an OSU fan and along with the Buckeyes the Colts must run the most predictable offense in the league.. I woulld have a heartattack if th Colts would ever run any of the following plays.

Flea Flicker

Double Reverse

Student Body Left

Wildcat

Fake Punt

Fake Field Goal

In fact the counter play at the end zone and the tight end sweep

totally fooled S.D. Because after watchibg tape thy were caught completely off-guard.

You had me until you suggested that the Colts run a bunch of dumb gimmick plays.

The beauty of the offense is that it can be 100% vanilla and still kick ass. If the run blocking had been even average this would be a super bowl team and they win this game by ten points.

Purnell should’ve been out years ago and I’m certain that he and Meeks will be gone this year. Dungy probably retires, though I find no fault with him at all aside from a minor mistake (stupid challenge).

You’re right to call out the linebackers. Session came on really strong, much like Keiaho last year, but Freddy regressed this year and like I suggested, the Brackett loss was huge in this one. The DBs and DEs did an incredible job limiting their vertical passing game but they couldn’t stop Sproles and some mid range routes and Brackett would’ve played a major role with that.

Ultimately it’s a case of just never clicking on all cylinders. When the D played well, the O went to sleep and went 3 and out in key situations. When the O moved the ball, the D let the Chargers come right back with sustained drives. And Scifres just kicked their ass, not a lot you can do about that. Even good ST play on returns and coverage wouldn’t have won that phase of the game. I’ve never seen a better game by a punter in 20 years of watching football. He was incredible and got luck on top of that (the bounce and stall at the 1 late). Nothing the Colts could do in those cases.

The 18 to 88 boys said it best though. This team was too flawed to win it all. Given how stressed they make us even in the wins, you could even say they did us a favor by losing early. Now we can watch the remaining 9 games this year without red zone heart rates.

I dunno...

I threw the usual violent rage, but the Colt’s defense didn’t allow a score until the last field goal in the second half.

The offense really, really stank. I think the line can’t push shopping carts, let alone defensive linemen. We lost because the o-line can’t push anyone off the ball.

I’m not unhappy with that loss. Better take it now and enjoy the post season than have the Colts skim by and suffer through a later loss. I think Jake Scott’s loss was big. He was a roughneck playing for his job every week. Where’s the line?

Wildcat

I would be terrified of having Peyton out wide with no blockers in front of him. No way.

yep

I agree with you and those are the only guys to me that actually came to play tonight. That they have to suffer a loss is ridiculous but hey, that’s football where you can do your damn job and others be useless and you get screwed.

Dungy is a very mediocre coach and i hope tonight proved that to everyone. I think he is a great guy and no doubt he is probably a joy to play for but as a coach he sucks. You a pretty much pencil in the results for the Colts come playoff time with do well in reg season, be favoured, come into the game unprepared, get killed by either pass D or run D, have a lot of drops, have no run game and the opposing team will exploit the issues that the Colts have had for the entire season but have felt they don’t need to correct.

Clearly 06 was the fluke year since this same thing has happened in 05, 07 and this year.

Heres hoping Dungy retires, they get a real coach who will prepare this team and they get some better players on defense. Oh and two guards who will actually open holes so Manning doesn’t have to play another season where he has to carry the team yet again.

You know you have a pretty average team when you HAVE to rely on your QB to continually win you games. Compare it t a team like Miami or even the chargers who can often just have their QB manage the game yet still win and it shows just how bad Indy is as an overall team. On the flip side it also shows how great Peyton is.

I think we had a lot of D-line injuries, O-line struggles and a weak linebacking corps.

I don’t think that makes Dungy a bad coach, and I don’t think that makes ’06 a fluke. It does mean that we need to look at our lines, draft some better players and get them healthy for next season.

We’re not the Patriots, organisation wise, but we’re as good as anyone else.
