Some Dungy pseudo-news about next season
Over on cnnsi.com, Dan Patrick interviewed Archie Manning who said Peyton told him that Dungy would probably be back. Here's the quote:
"Archie said that Peyton told him that he thinks coach Tony Dungy is coming back. Both Dan and Archie are slightly surprised, because they thought Dungy was leaning toward retirement."
Interesting but obviously it doesn't mean anything. My brother and I went to a small informal talk with Polian a year ago and he seemed to think that Dungy will at least coach through to the end of his contract (which I believe ends after next season). Hopefully he'll go out with another super bowl win...
[sidenote: at the same talk, Polian kind of sounded like he might leave at the same time as Dungy. This was pure speculation on our part but there was a hint of it]

Well anytime Dungy has a press conference he constantly uses terms like “we need to do this this and this next year” blah blah blah, we this, we that, next year this, etc etc etc.
I really do hope he comes back.

What kills me is, if you personally decide to leave a job to retire or take another job, nobody generally gives a crap. I say the same for Dungy. It’s his life, he can do whatever he wants with it. If he stays, awesome. If he doesn’t it sucks, but he gets to do what he wants. I hope I get to do what I want when I retire……two chicks at the same time.
Wait, that’s an Office Space line, what I mean is when I retire I hope I can go out on top of my profession, and then RELAX. Tony will go when its time. I hope he stays forever, and coaches from a wheelchair.

Dungy only made the comment because ....
The genius of Dungy was on full display after the loss to San Diego. He took all the attention off the team and there monumental collapse by bringing his own future into question. Brilliant. Now all the people commenting around the Indy area are saying sack Tony where in the past it was sack Peyton. There are only 2 people who can do that Polian & or Irsay who have both gone on the record as saying Dungy fills out his own pink slip.
Seriously
If he was going to retire it was going to be after the Super Bowl. Put this together and enjoy: Tony lost his son (suicide) then came back to coach. The next season Mr. Dungy achieves his professional goal by winning the Super Bowl. 2 years later he is still coaching, I don’t see him going anywhere for 3-4 more years just about the exact time Peyton retires.

ideally
if the pillars of the organization are going to leave, why not have them all leave at once? Peyton, Polian, and Dungy can all retire together (after a few more super bowls of course) and it will be like ripping off a band-aid instead of slowly pulling it off by losing a pillar every other year for half a decade

Ultimately it doesn’t matter. This era of the Colts will cease to be one day and no matter how it happens, it’s going to suck. I’d rather just not even think about it right now.

Well I'm grateful that Dungy isn't a self-centered asshole
like Favre. He has the nerve to tell the Jets that it will be weeks before he makes a decision about whether or not he’sretiring. Weeks!!! Not a week like Coach Dungy takes to decide his future, but weeks that could easily add up to a few months. Gosh, this dude is really tarnishing his legacy by being a self-absorbed divo.

If I were the Jets organization
I would say “take all the time in the world, you’re not coming back here anyway.” I mean, obviously, he needs a little help. I doubt they want him back anyway. And who else is going to take him, really.

Exactly
He doesn’t have the same power in New York like he had in Green Bay to even tell the Jets what he’ll do in the future. Also, that torn bicep tendon might really decide whether or not he’ll come back, but I really want him to retire so Peyton can know how long it’ll take him to break all those signifcant passing records (except for most interceptions thrown, hopefully no one will ever break Brett’s record of interceptions lol).

Me too.
So, Favre goes now…how long does Peyton need to play? 5, 6 years?

I can't find updated numbers on each players streak
but if the numbers i have are correct, they were both taken on the same day, so it doesn’t matter what the currect streaks are at, peyton would need 93 games or 5.8 seasons.

That sounds right. I was very upset when Favre “unretired” last year…

That sounds about right
Especially since Peyton has better numbers for the 1st 11 seasons of his career compared to Favre’s:
Total yards- Peyton: 45628 yds Favre: 38627 yds (1st 11 seasons)
Touchdowns- Peyton: 333 TD Favre: 287 TD
comp/att— Peyton: 3839/5960 64.4 % Favre: 3311/5471 60.5%

Avg yards per season:
Peyton: 4148
Favre: 3511
Yeah, I think Peyton’s better.

To blow your minds further:
That’s a difference of 637 yards AVERAGE per year. That’s like 2 games.

Plus
Considering Peyton normally doesn’t play the last game, it’s more like three.
