I'm sick of Baltimore.....the city.
Just sitting in the living room watching TV and see that ESPN is promoting a movie called "The Band that wouldn't die". What is this movie about you ask? The Baltimore Colts marching band, and how we "snuck" out of town and broke all their hearts. It's ridiculous, and irks me to no end.
People don't realize just how many teams have moved... *ahem* Boston Patriots, L.A. Rams/Raiders, -pause- how about the fact that Baltimore STOLE the Browns from Cleveland...and convieninetly re-named them the Ravens -resume- MY point being.... enough is ENOUGH with this garbage. People of Baltimore, Kindly shut your whiny mouths.

What's more ironic
is that they then accepted a new stolen team from arguably the best fan base in the league in Cleveland.

I wonder how St. Louis feels
about the Cardinals going to Phoenix? Or, how L.A. feels about the Rams going to St. Louis? What about Houston’s feelings about Nashville stealing the Oilers? Let’s face it, for a while in the early 80s, it was musical chairs with football teams. Baltimore seems to be the only city whining though. It’s funny, they can complain and cry about it, but when they lure a team away from another city (Cleveland), it’s apparently alright.

exactly!
the city of Baltimore needs a collective glass of shut the hell up. Anytime somene says “yeah well the your first superbowl doesn’t count because it was in Baltimore”. I go off with that, "are you a fan of the Oakland Raiders? or maybe the LA Raiders? how about the Rams? or the Cardinals? or the Oilers cough I mean Titans…..

Barry Levin directed that film,
If you’ve seen his movie The Diner, you know he was a die hard Colts fan. I think it broke his heart when they left town. I’m going to watch the film before I decide whether or not to be offended by it.

What's the Boston Patriots story?
I thought they’ve always been there, and just renamed themselves?
How can you not love a team that does this?

They played in Boston
At Fenway and maybe Nickerson before the merger, but they had to build their own stadium to qualify for the 50,000 seat minimum in the NFL.

They play in Foxboro, Mass. I'm not sure where it's located in relation to Boston

They should have titled the movie
“The City that wouldn’t let it Die”

Of the several reasons Irsay left
The biggest one for me is the fact that the city of Baltimore was threatening to sieze the city under immenant domain. If I was Robert Irsay I would have gotten the hell out of there too with the threat of my football team being taken from me. It was Baltimore’s fault the colts left they wouldn’t give him a new stadium and then threatened to take the team. They really need to shut the hell up.

The Boston Patriots didn't have their own stadium
They played at Fenway Park, and several University fields before having their own stadium finally built in Foxborough, around 35 miles or so from Boston. Owner Billy Sullivan changed the name of the team to take the ‘Boston’ out of it because he was so sick of the politicians denying him a stadium in the city proper.
Keep the faith!

Thanks for the explanation
and the proper spelling of “Foxborough” – bugs me when they misspell it on broadcasts.

thanks marima
I still want to kill that band though…

that's the thanks you all get
for being an elite team. Think anyone would be interested in even making a movie about this if your Colts were scraping the bottom of the division or conference year-in and year-out? Price of success my man, so just enjoy it (annoying as it is.)

I remember visiting D.C. over July 4th 1989...
and all the local papers IN THE MIDDLE OF FUCKING SUMMER were bitching about the move. If they had gone to the games and paid for a new facility, they would still have them, and most of us would probably be talking about basketball season.
Also, they lost all credibility when they stole the Browns.

The thing with stealing teams
Is that Baltimore didn’t take the Browns moniker or history. The thing with a lot of Baltimore fans from what I hear is that if we had gotten the Colts, but let them keep the Colts name and history, and we’d been an “expansion team” like the Ravens are considered, they wouldn’t be upset. Or as upset. They’d probably still be upset, but you can’t do much about that.

I think that's a good point
I like how Johnny U, god rest his soul, said he wanted to keep his records in Baltimore…… I sincerely do like that. It’s ok with me also because Peyton will break them all anyways
by harbaughmyhero on Oct 12, 2009 6:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
They can have the records.....
All they have to do is say these are our records…..right? Who truly can own records? They are what they are. The only ones who own them are the ones who set them.

The chose the Orioles over the Colts
I think when a team moves, it is the city letting the fans down. The citizens of Baltimore voted against legislation that would have kept the Colts there. They were going to build a dome like in Seattle, Houston, and Minnesota. The fans cannot bitch about the colts, they basically voted them out of town.
