"Backstabbing" Irsay? Really?
I just got done reading an article on Shutdown Corner entitled "Baltimore backstabber Irsay comes out against Limbaugh's Bid". Who the hell rights this drivel. This quote is what drives me wild:
Here's a guy who was part of perhaps the most contemptible ownership moment in recent NFL history -- lying to the city of Baltimore for months before taking the team, without notice, to the Midwest -- and he's going to lecture others on ethics and comportment?
Wait a minute here? Does this guy know that Jim Irsay was in college at the team and has no part in running the team? That his dad was a drunk and overall lousy person according to most accounts? That he at no time was "lying to the city of Baltimore" and that he didn't take the team anywhere?
I sure as hell think that he could teach some ethics to a supposed "journalist" that couldn't even research some basic facts about Jim Irsay, one of the classiest owners in the league, and one who has done everything to turn this franchise away from the sordid teams of the late 70's to mid-90's. I believe that Shutdown Corner should publish a letter of apology to Jim.As a sidenote, I do not agree with Jim necessarily about the Limbaugh bid. If Limbaugh was a 100% owner and would be the mouth piece of the team, I could see some concerns, but in this sort of partnership, it seems like he is more like a capital partner that gets the prestige of owning an NFL team.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

I read that earlier...
and the comments were taking him to the woodshed for how STUPID the article was.
Plus I applaud Irsay for what he said about Limbaugh. Keep politics out of football… no on Limbaugh, no on Roger Moore, no on Ann Coulter, no on Jessie Jackson.
Plus why the whole thing got so much airtime is beyond me, must have been a slow news week… the media loves a good controversy for ratings.

Micheal Moore?
I actually think he should have kept his mouth shut on the issue instead of making a public statement about it, but that’s what politics and sensitive racial comments will do to a man.
Limbaugh is now out of the ownership bid according to ESPN so it worked for Irsay and the rest of his opposition (including Goodell actually).

I also like how it says...
“Recent NFL history”. That shit was, like, 25 years ago! A large percentage of football fans weren’t even alive then or they were much too young to even be serious fans.
And by the way, dumbass, the Colts were relocated to the city of Indianapolis not some vague 12-state area known as “Midwest”. I hate it when these jokers think we all live in some big-ass state in the middle of the country known as the “Midwest”, like we’re all a bunch of country bumpkins that know each other personally and get together weekly for town meetings, shotgun weddings and county fairs.

He must have mixed it up with where he got his new team from.
"It's the greatest job in the world until Peyton comes off the field and you think his thumb might be broken and there's three minutes left in the AFC Championship Game and you're down by three to New England and you haven't taken a snap all year. Yeah, it's a great job until that point." - Jim Sorgi

I was hoping Rush would get the team. It would put him in the limelight away from his scripts and diconnect buttons. I am sure he would have a Jimmy The Greek moment or 10.

I find it kinda funny in the article I read
every one is bashing the writer because of his stupitity in writing it. Why should Jim be held accoutable for his fathers “sins” says one commenter. The guy who wrote it is a schmuck…plain and simple. When ignorant people say stupid things, you have to just let it go. They only make themselves sound stupid in the end
The way our defense is set up, it puts me in situations where I'm one-on-one in making tackles on running backs. When I go into it, I think I am going to win. It really doesn't matter the size, height, weight, whatever. I'm not afraid of putting my body in there." - Bob Sanders

controversy = hits…
although I would love if someone had a screengrab of the original article because of the blatant mistakes that he later corrected.
I hate it when sites edit their posts for mistakes after publishing, like it never happened.

Irsay just believes whatever the Dinosaur Media says
like most people.
He’s uninformed, but it’s hard to blame him for just believing what he sees on TV.
It’s too bad he felt compelled to take the lead on this issue, though.
I’m one of Irsay’s biggest fans, and I always credit him for a lot of the Colt’s success.
I’ll just say that IMO this wasn’t one of his proudest moments, and leave it at that.
Most of the racist comments attributed to Rush were simply manufactured and posted on the internet by Limbaugh haters.
The handful of “racially-insensitive” comments he actually made (over his 20+ years of speaking on the radio fifteen hours a week) are arguably not racist at all and/or taken out of context.
The real villians here are the “journalists” who pass the lies on as fact, simply because Limbaugh doesn’t share their politics.
It’s beginning to be a pattern, look at how Palin was treated, and all the vile, way out-of-line crap that was said about her.
It’s a sad day for America, and democracy, when people can be destroyed by lies, aided and abetted by 98% of the media.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not pitying Limbaugh, he’s a big boy, and he’ll be fine, but the best word to describe the media and others who has launched this petty, vindictive, and destructive vendetta is, ironically, a lynch mob.
A few things you probably didn’t know about Limbaugh;
He was married in the home of black Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas, with Thomas presiding over the ceremony.
His right-hand man for over twenty years, known as “Mr. Snerdley” to his listeners, is black.
His long-time substitute on his radio show, Walter Williams, is black.
Does that sound like he hates black people?
I’m not a big Limbaugh listener at all, in fact I can’t believe I’m writing all this, but I’ve listened to him enough to know that he’s not a racist.
The hypocritical Jesse “Hymietown” Jackson and Al “Tawana Brawley” Sharpton make their living seeing racism everywhere and exploiting and milking racial unrest for a living. You can torture dogs to death, serve hard time, or run over pedestrians and the NFL welcomes you back with open arms, they have racially-insensitive team names, and a long history of outright racist owners (how soon they forget) but heaven forbid you have a different political viewpoint, that’s the one kind of diversity these hypocrites can’t tolerate.
What a joke.
Well, I didn’t mean to get all serious on everybody.
Maybe this will help lighten the mood.

Well said hooserhorseman!!
I agree with you…diversity is for everything except conservative politics. If you are conservative you are almost automatically labeled a racist. I don’t know about Limbaugh…I have never listened to him…but like you said…he is a big boy who made his bed…now he has to lie in it.

Do we know if Rush is a racist?
No, but he has said some racially-insensitive things about black NFL players in public; yes, and that’s the problem many have with him. He’s an attention whore like that Ann Culter chick, so I don’t take people like them seriously since they just want to get a rise out of everyone with outrangeous and insensitive comments. We don’t you about the other 31 owners views on black athletes; hell, some of them may be racist, but we won’t ever know.
I think a lot of us are prejudice about certain racial, religious, and national groups, but the only thing we can do is learn from each other.

How about Keith Olbermann? Or Jesse Jackson?
Oh, I see….
by coltsfanawalt on Oct 15, 2009 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
What do you see?
I know Olbermann and Jackson are attention whores, too, but Culter’s name was the first one I thought of. I wasn’t trying to single anyone out because of their political views; don’t even get me started on Al Sharpton.
Everytime something that involves race occurs in the MSM, specifically blacks, Sharpton’s has his nose all in it. I’m still trying to figure out who made him and Jackson the spokespeople of black America because I surely didn’t vote for them. :-) The both of them are opportunists who need to go away.

I just wanted to add
that Limbaugh should have expected all of this, but not perhaps the intensity of the backlash.
And I don’t really care that he won’t be an owner, though he is a HUGE NFL fan and I’m sure this was a big dream of his.
Nevertheless, being controversial is part of his job and he is divisive, and that’s the career he chose, and he should know that.
And I agree about keeping politics out of football, I just wish someone had asked me if I wanted to watch Keith Olberman every Sunday night.
by HoosierHorseman on Oct 15, 2009 10:39 AM EDT reply actions 1 recs
you're the first person I've read to mention Keith Olberman
I know he’s not trying to enter the special exclusive society of NFL owners but Olberman is just as polarizing as Limbaugh – and Limbaugh doesn’t pretend to be funny like Olberman does (his one-liners are just mean and often fall flat.)
Also, I don’t listen to Limbaugh but I’d venture that not only did he expect this to happen, but relished it happening. Really enjoyed your comments here and above (Scarlett doesn’t do it for me so I actually read them.)
