Trade Possibilities

No this isn't a post mimicking Farris' post.  In the wake of the shocking news of the Colts cutting Ed Johnson and with the October 20th trade deadline looming, I couldn't help but think that a possible trade could occur. This isn't a desperate situation as it was in years past, but Polian has never been afraid to make a move to improve the team to provide the best roster capable of winning the Lombardi Trophy. Here is a list of potential targets the Colts may try and acquire.

1.) Glen Dorsey: A very talented tackle from last years draft out of LSU. The abilities he displayed in college are very reminiscent to that of a Tampa-2 tackle, He hasn't really shown it in his first two years in Kansas City (although part of that can be attrabuted to KC switching to a 3-4) but we have seen the Colts attempt to acquire another struggling tackle, John McCargo

2.) Joshua Cribbs: The Colts have always been lacking a playmaker on special teams. Cribbs can offer such a player if he was traded to the Colts. Based on what I read over at the Phinsider, the Dolphins have inquired about his services giving me the impression that the Browns might be willing to part ways with him. The only downside might be the asking price. We all saw the steep price the Jets had to pay for one of the most overrated receivers in the game.

3.) Adam Carriker: I beieve there was a rumor the Colts had vested interest in this kid last year. With the way the Rams are playing, maybe the Colts can get a second shot at acquiring him for a low price. He is very athletic and has the body type of a Tampa 2 DT.

Do any of you guys have a player who might be on the market which might fit the bill for the Colts?

didnt realize that

have any other thoughts or suggestions on anyone out there?

Ed Johnson?

Could his release mean we have some one else in mind? Dorsey perhaps… And let’s get Cribbs and cut Rushing. He’s a bad corner, and a bad special teams guy.

Well...

If you want a trade…..it’s way out there, most likely not gonna happen…but…..

Shawne Merriman…

Crazy? Perhaps…. but he would be a heckuva an addition to this team’s LB core, and would add intensity and ability to a LB core that could be viewed as the weakest link on the defense.

Yes, he’s still not 100%, but in our defense, he could perform very well….

Granted, we’d have to give up someone….but I think a second SB would be worth a 2nd rounder and say a player or so..

I don't know

he’s struck me as being too fragile, and getting on in age… maybe I’m wrong?

How can you not love a team that does this?

getting on in age?

He was in the same draft class as Eli Manning

I don't think it's just fragile...

a lot of the guys over on the Charger’s blog have openly talked about how his production has significantly gone down since being suspended for steroids.

Oh and then there was that whole Tila Tequila thing.

this would NEVER happen...

for one San Diego doesn’t want to trade him… and 2 the colts don’t want him.

What about Derrick Brooks LB ?

I believe that he’s working at ESPN now. He surely knows how our defense works.
I don’t know how much money it would take.

How about an offensive lineman?

DT was the biggest need last year. I think OL is a bigger need this year (guard or tackle).

by yellowsnow on Oct 15, 2009 9:44 PM EDT reply actions

Jim Sorgi, Hank Bassket and a third round pick

for Josh Crabbs…maybe? And throw them Simpson as little extra somethin. Since they shipped Braylon Edwards off to the Jets they need somebody at wide reciever and Hank can be a pretty good reciever.

The way our defense is set up, it puts me in situations where I'm one-on-one in making tackles on running backs. When I go into it, I think I am going to win. It really doesn't matter the size, height, weight, whatever. I'm not afraid of putting my body in there." - Bob Sanders

I like that.

But why would they want Sorgi? If they can’t make it work with Quinn, Sorgi wouldn’t be any better.

How about this pipe dream?

trading a 2nd rder with KC for Dorsey and derrick johnson. Two guys who fit their former Tampa 2 and really don’t fit the 34?
It is crazy how everyone wants every player who might be available. People wanted TJ Housh. and tony Gonzalez this past off-season. Put me down for Derrick Johnson or a pr/kr that would come cheaper than Cribbs.

by GonzoBlue on Oct 15, 2009 10:13 PM EDT reply actions

Cribbs may not be that expensive...

I think Lovinblue said he’s only makin about 1 million/year in Cleavland right now so he may not be that expensive

someone else made the point

that he is unhappy with his contract and wants to rework it. Could get more expensive… not sure by how much, though

what the hell...

none of these trades make sense, why would KC take a 2nd round pick for a 5th overall pick???

It was a joke

So many people want to trade their trash for some other team’s treasure. Only the Raiders take that offer. Scott Pioli is smart enough to know that the Colts would value Dorsey and Johnson more for their system than KC does in their’s. So obviously a 2nd isn’t enough. Both could possibly be starters at DT and OLB respectively.

by GonzoBlue on Oct 16, 2009 7:33 AM EDT up reply actions

Well if I were Polian, with the track record he has with first round picks, I’d take 5 first rounders and a tank to fend off the lynching party that would be after my ass shortly afterward.

I want Dorsey

He’d be perfect. I’d give up a second rounder for Dorsey in a second. Dorsey’s contract is a good size and he’d be a great fit for this defense. That would be a great pickup.

Dorsey

I wish

I think OL is a more pressing concern. Watching Tony Ugoh last week was just excruciating. He couldn’t block at ALL. I just don’t know if any OL are on the market.

OT

Possibly Alex Barron. The Rams just drafted Jason Smith this year to be LT of future. Barron is relatively young so they may not bite. Gaines Adams was already traded for a 2nd rder, just a couple years after going #4 overall, so you never know.

by GonzoBlue on Oct 17, 2009 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Dorsey isnt out of the realm of possibility

A Offensive linemen though might. Lineman are hard to trade for because Teams have a significant drop off in talent if they plug them in after giving away a starter. Teams would not want to trade there offensive lineman because of the dropoff the team trading the linemen will receive or they just arent good enough to warrent a trade.

From what NFLN said, Dorsey is on the market. Based on his porduction so far, I dont think he will cost much.

my two cents

i’m a little late on this, but i believe we should make a trade for a change of pace third string running back. we have four on the active roster. and two of which are pretty much the same player. so next year as addai is a year older, he’ll probably become expendable, and a guy like michael bush from the raiders who is 6’1" and 245, will make a good tandem for brown in the future………just a thought.
