"The Unclassiest Team of the Decade"
I really think that the beat down the Patriots gave the Titans is more proff that the Patriots can finally be labled
"The Unclassiest Team of the Decade".
Last week when the Colt's played the Titans at least they have the decency to run the ball and let them have a crack at it. They've done this a couple of times this season. Sadly, for some reason Bill and Brady need to prove something whenever they play 0-5 opponents.
You guys think they might be trying to compensate for something?

humilliated…and it’s hard for the Pats to run so…it isn’t THAT bad

The Pats needed something to get them going this season
They haven’t been consistent on offense and I don’t blame them going all out against the Titans in the 2ND QUARTER. Its not like Brady played the whole second half either, just one series in the 3rd quarter. The Titans just have a horrible pass defense right now. You can say Manning trying to get his 300 yards last week and a 4th TD when the game was already over with was not that classy. The only thing for the Patriots and Brady that would have been bad was him getting hurt or any starter in that case when they were already up by 45 points. I really don’t care what the Pats do.

I didn't think it was necessary
to hurry up the offense at the end of the first half when it was already 38-0, but everything else seemed just. It’s hard for the Pats to run the ball. I always keep in mind that Texans game from last year – the one where the Colts came back from 17 down with something like 7 minutes to go in the game. Absolutely anything is possible, and if the Pats didn’t keep playing to score, they were still at risk. Of course, the team needing to come from behind wasn’t anywhere close to being as good as last year’s Colts, but it’s still a risk. I did, however, think it was unwarranted to keep Brady in at the start of the 3rd.
I kinda like it though – now the media will be all over Brady and will be back to naming them the best QB and best team in the league – until we played New England later in the season and shut them down. :-D

These are professionals. They go home with a paycheck.
If any of them are worried about hurting the other team’s feelings, they’re not doing their job. The Titans are not children.

I can't really fault the Pats today
That was not running up the score. The Titans were so piss awful in their secondary that I probably could have had some touchdowns. Honestly, this was more about the Titans not showing up at all. It was totally embarrasing. They absolutely quit. It was not bad throwing conditions (the snow generally makes it easier to throw, becuase defenders slip and all, it is the opposite of rain).
Tom Brady and the Pats are going to get everyone suckered in with this week and next, but they are probably more of the team that barely beat Baltimore than either the team that lost the Broncos or played a college team today.

They pulled their offense in the 3rd quarter..
other than the hurry up at the end of the 1st half, what else could they do? They were scoring on like every play. 2 yard screens? touchdown. dive play? touchdown. Flea flicker? touchdown.
I don’t know if it happened last week or sometime today, but the Titans quit.
by SpazMo on Oct 19, 2009 12:00 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The two things that pissed me off
were the 10-play in 1:04 drive at the end of the half when they’re up 38-0. Just no freakin’ need. Run a few plays, sure. Take a knee, great. Execute a hurry-up drive just to kick sand in their faces and go up 45-0? Insane.
And then coming out in the 2nd half firing again to make it 52-0, because that 45 pt lead was just too vulnerable.
I did not see the game, so I can only go by hearsay about had horrid the Titans were, and it seems to be the case. But those two examples above I still find pretty distasteful.
Any Pats fans still want to call Manning “stat boy” and say he’s only in the game to pad his stats and glorify himself? I don’t think so….

I will fault the Pats on this
Tom Brady said in postgame that he had no idea how many tds he had thrown in the quarter, and that had nothing to do with playcalling.
Bullshit, Tom (sorry for the swaring, but I had too for effect). He was very aware, as was Belichick. Pats fans used to hate it when we used to play just to pad our stats, and now they are doing it more than anyone. No other team in the NFL would have on a two minute drill up 38-0.

Well, that tells us at least one ting, maybe more
Just not sure which one (or more) it is:
1) Brady is a liar
2) Brady is dumb as a post
3) Brady has no actual control over the O—he’s just a cog in a machine run by others. If they tell him to keep the snap and rub his ass on the turf like a dog with worms, he’d do that. Dunno, might be interesting….
I am being kind when I say #1 is most likely. But, well, let’s just say I’ll keep my eye out for skid marks next Pats game I watch.

i didnt wish it was the Colts up 59-0, Colts dont do that, they would have run the ball to kill the time when they got 38-0 and probably would have kick a few FG after that. I just cant hate more the pats and their ways and im extremely proud the Colts dont play for the stats and media, just to imagine Peyton Manning getting hurt being up 45-0 just upset my stomach and that is what you risk on each and every play.

Brady is a lying scumbag
He didn’t know how many TDs he threw? BS, he knew and he did it just to be talked about again. A 5yd and 9yd TD pass are unneccessary when your team is up 40 points. Run. The. Ball. You stay classy New England.
As far as running up the score, I can’t blame them much for the first half. That was more the Titans being that bad than the Pats being that good. Their starting secondary was out, they were playing in the snow, and they have no pride left at all. No reason to slow things down at least until the second half. But once the second half started, the time to slow things down and control the clock was upon them, and they chose to keep blowing things up. That is when you run the ball.
Going for the fourth downs in the second half was absolutely ridiculous and a classless move. Pats fans will say they went for it just so they wouldn’t tack on an extra three points. BS. Running a play on fourth down is one thing, actually going for it in an attempt to get another first down is something else, and that is what NE did.
NE has done worse in terms of running up scores. The unneccessary TD passes and the BS go-for-it on 4th calls were absurdly selfish and classless. Other than that, though, the only way they wouldn’t have been running up the score is if they willingly handed the ball over to the Titans. It’s not their fault the Titans are the worse team in the NFL (and boo hoo, let me tell ya). The titans clearly did not want to play football yesterday. New England could’ve scored 40 with their practice squad and that disgrace of a team.

Come on
This isn’t high school or college. Every NFL team has equal access to the finest football talent in the world. If a team sucks, they deserve to be humiliated.
So maybe it wasn’t “unclassy” but it was definitely reckless. Running a hurry-up offense in the snow against an already humiliated team? Sounds like a good way for someone to have a season-ending injury. It doesn’t surprise me – this isn’t the first time I’ve decided that Belichick cares more about the game than the players – I’m just surprised that shit like this hasn’t yet caught up with him.
One of these days somebody will suffer a season-ending or maybe career-ending injury as a direct result of one of Belichick’s irresponsible coaching decisions. I hope for the players’ sake it doesn’t happen, but if it does they better Bill’s ass to the wall.

Karma’s a bitch, and it’s been fuk’n he shyt out of the Tits this whole season.
The Tits quit in that game, no question about that, but I felt that Belichick should’ve pulled his starters out before the in the 3rd quarter and not go for it on 4th down when you have a 40+ pt lead. Other than that, I would’ve done the same thing to those chumps.

Pats put their spanking new rookie QB Brian Hoyer
in 5 minutes into the second half. Brady only played 35 minutes into the game. The first series was just to see if the Titans changed up their strategy or came up with something new, different, professional during halftime. They didn’t and Brady came out.
There are only 45 players on a roster. Not everyone is a backup, but Belichick did put them in in the 2nd half. I’m not being argumentative here or defensive, but honestly, what would your team do if the other team keeps handing you the ball.
People talk about ways that a team disrespects another – is it more disrespectful to a.) kick a field goal for the automatic 3 points, b.) to throw a deliberate incomplete pass and turn the ball over on downs, c.) take a knee or d.) to go for it on 4th and 5 and give the opponent a chance to stop you.
I understand that you just don’t like the idea period of the Patriots beating a team by this many points. But what would you do that doesn’t also disrespect the players on your own team that have worked hard all week and came to play.? Again, I’m not being argumentative here, just looking for a thoughtful opinion.

A Thoughtful Opinion...
Indy is my home town, I’m 46 yrs old and my wife is also a Fan. Not just a Colts Fan , but a Fan of Professional Football. I’ve watched Fran Tarkenton, Dick Butkus, Larry Csonka (and the Fins perfect season) and was elated when the Colts came to Indy. I’ve either watched, or at least listened on the radio, to every Colts game since they arrived. I tryed to remember whether any of these teams I’ve watched (even the ‘85 Bears) ever made me feel like they were intentionally running up the score. It may have happened, but I don’t remember feeling that way. Then there was the ‘07 Patriots. Fans of many different teams felt like they padded the stats that year.
Now I have to say that I don’t “hate” the Patriots or their organization. I don’t even like to use the word in any context. I do respect the Patriots team, talent and organization. Their ability to be a quality team every year and have 3 SB rings cannot and should not be minimized. As a Colts Fan, the Pats have always been a “thorn in the side” even when we played them in the AFC East. So, naturally I’m going to support the Colts and ANY team that plays the Patriots.
With all of that said, and a 20 minute discussion with my wife about how she felt about it, I feel the Patriots ran up the score, but my wife does not. I have to admit, when I saw that Brady was playing to start the 3rd Q, I turned off the game with some disgust. In my humble opinion, and based upon how I have seen the Colts and other teams handle this situation, the Patriots should have played 2nd teamers (yes, you did mention that they did this), worked on their running game and NEVER go for it on a 4th and 5 with that kind of lead! The Titans were broken, beat down and completely out of the game by the middle of the 2nd Q and as much as I like it when a division rival loses, I felt pity for the Titans in that game. The battle cry for every team who plays the Patriots for the rest of the season and into the playoffs will be “REMEMBER THE TITANS!!”
What would I do? I’d like to think I would do what the Colts did in the Seattle game. Up 34-3 they got Jim Sorgi ready to play and put several 2nd teamers in on defense to give them some experience in the 4th Q. Final score 34-17 Colts. To me that was Class and Good Sportsmanship.

I only pointed those out as other opinons that are out there.
Here is Bill Polian’s opinion on Colts.com:
Q: Can you comment on the New England Patriots’ one-sided victory over Tennessee? Was it necessary for the Patriots to score so many points?
A: I did not see the game. They did not get it where I was located. Far be it for me to comment on what anybody else does. I have a hard enough time taking care of my own job without worrying about anybody else. One thing I will say, and I’ll echo Mike Golic (Monday morning on ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning) on his radio show, ‘The idea of holding the score down – and I’m casting no aspersions here; I’m speaking generically – is not something that is sacrosanct in the NFL.’ As a matter of fact, one of the last tiebreakers when you’re trying to break a tie in the standings between two teams is point differential between that which you scored and that which you have given up. There’s an argument that you try to score as many points as you can so that you create that point-differential tiebreaker. Some coaches do and some coaches don’t, but it’s there for a reason. The differential is important when it comes to playoffs. Hence, there’s less issue with lopsided scores traditionally in the NFL than there are at the lower levels.

nah
My personal sense of self-worth isn’t tied to how many points the Patriots score on any given Sunday. I had a blast watching that game. Those one-sided affairs don’t happen very often.
Remember the Patriots had the distinction for a while of being on the receiving end of the biggest blow-out in Super Bowl history against the Bears in 1985. Believe me, fans were miserable, but there wasn’t a single article about anyone running up the score on a hapless, inept opponent which is exactly how that 1985 Patriots team played in that particular game. (I don’t think they got a single first down.) Ya think Mike Ditka felt one drop of remorse about that beating? I wouldn’t expect it.
I’m always poking around this site. I just expected the backlash and you didn’t disappoint. I just waited for the initial emotions to die down to see what the rationale would be.

Me thinks you may have missed the point...
Personally, I don’t kick someone when they’re down. I would not let anyone do it if I was there to stop it. If I (a regular Joe, blue collar worker and football fan) has the opinion that the Patriots may have kicked the Titans in the ribs (multiple times) when they were already down and bleeding, don’t you think at least some of the other players, or even coaches in the NFL may see the same thing? They’re not going to come out and say it, but they may be motivated to “make up for it”. I hope the Colts never do what the Patriots have done, it would bother me. Please note again what Polian said:
“There’s an argument that you try to score as many points as you can so that you create that point-differential tiebreaker. Some coaches do and some coaches don’t, but it’s there for a reason.” emphasis mine.
The Colts won’t need this motivation to play well against the Patriots. They know another Super Bowl is possible and that it’s up to them to get there and win it. It’s the teams like the Titans (or individual players) that you have to worry might sink to the level of retribution and revenge.

In the third quarter there were two scores
Brady scored the first one in his only series out there and rookie Brian Hoyer scored the second (his first ever game time). There was no scoring in the 4th quarter. That wouldn’t have been the case if breaking NFL records was truly BB’s goal.
The running game in snowy, messy games like that puts players at a higher risk of injury – on both sides of the ball, but especially on defense, so the Patriots passed. And again, there were so many turnovers the Patriots were just handed the ball again and again. Look at the drive chart or watch the replay. Any points scored in the first half of a game though are not up for grabs, and any coach – or football player – will tell you that
And it’s silly to even consider that the Colts would even think to use this as motivation (they’d be mad at the Patriots for scoring too many points against their most hated rival???) It’s no secret that there isn’t much love between the Colts and the Titans players, like most intense rivalries. Feel free to score 80 against the Jets – you’ll get the blessing of 3/4 of the AFC East.
Keep the faith!

Marima, you're a little slow on the pick up here
I tried to explain why some people (not all) may feel what the Patriots did was wrong and that it might piss off some of those people in a manner that might affect the way they play the Patriots. You, meanwhile, come up with nothing but excuses. That game was over before the end of the 2nd Q, not after Brady made his 6th TD in the 3rd!!! If any other team had done it and it was one time thing, noone would really care. But, after Brady padded his stats in ‘07 just to break some records, it now looks more like a modus operandi (i hope i spelled that right) of the coach, QB and the team! It’s a malicious pattern and it will come back to haunt your team just as the pressure from the stat padding and purposeful record breaking led to a loss in the most important game of all! WHAT COMES AROUND, GOES AROUND!

Wait, I already know you’re going to tell me that every single one of the 49 touchdown passes Manning threw were “necessary,” especially against Detroit, but the 50 TD passes Brady threw in 2007 were a karmic nightmare.

Dear Lord...
This is going nowhere so I’ll leave it at this. I’ve read the posts from all over – not just Colts & Bucs and a lot of folks criticize the Bucs more than the Pats actually.
Stampede Blue has a variety of opinions back and forth about it with quite a few backing the Pats strategy here. Most of the criticisms are just that, that it was wrong, and very vague about what they would have done instead while playing a team that just kept handing them the ball back over and over and over.
I asked for a thoughtful opinion and you came back with comments about the Patriots having a history of padding their stats (2 games of 50+ pts in ‘07 and 1 game in ’09 is hardly a “malicious pattern”) and how every team will gun for them now to punish them. But this isn’t college where there’s an extra 40 players suited up that can be put in as substitutes and if you look at the roster, Belichick did put in the rookies and backups. What’s really unfair, is asking the players who worked hard all week to not play their hardest or to sit out because they’re too good. That’s just rewarding the Bucs defenders who jogged their routes or who gave up when the first snowflakes fell.
And speaking of blinding fandom… the title of this fanpost is the undercurrent of almost every post here. It’s not just that Manning is better than Brady, that is a real discussion – this is that Brady is a girl, married to a man-faced model, who’s at best is a system QB that can’t be given credit for anything that he has accomplished. It’s the team that was good, and Brady just happened to be along for the ride. Or rather he plays for the team that just cheated it’s entire way to 3 SBs that shouldn’t count for anything. That’s blinding fandom.
Keep the faith!

A Defensive posture is most often taken by a person who is presented a list of facts that they know is true, but are unwilling or unable to accept as true. Think About It…..

excellent point as to why it was fine for the Pats to run up the score on them
I hate the Titans and enjoy their suffering.
Don't question my fandominium.

I personally don't care that the Pats scored all 'em points.
They could. Don’t know what we would’ve truly done in that exact circumstance. We can speculate, but that’s all it is. The real story here was Tennessee’s surprising ineptitude. I am shocked and feel bad for them. I don’t know how they went so far from 13-3. Was the loss of Haynesworth and/or Schwartz that big of a deal? Wow! The poor fans have gotta be frustrated.
New England took them to the cleaners in a winter wonderland. That would seem hard to do in my mind. I think Brady is back to form, and so is Welker. This will be an interesting rest of the season. The game I care most about is the Pats vs. the Colts. Meanwhile, I hope we keep on winning and improving.

Sounds like a whole lot of whining!!
You all say that the Pats ran up the score. What you really wanna say is why didn’t Manning throw all those td’s against a demoralized, tired, injured and beaten team like the Titans. Replacing the starters in the first half would have been a rip-off for the paying fans in attendance. If one team can score 45 by the half, maybe the other team can do it too. These guys get payed loads of dough to play at a professional level, and to take the foot off the gas is like slowing down your thoroughbred because he is too far ahead. Get real, Brady came out in the third after one series, they did run the ball a hell of a lot more than usual and when Hoyer came out to play, the plan was get him some playing time in many different situations. He targeted Aiken and Edelman a helluva lot more times than the other receivers. The second half became a practice for them and that’s what they did. The thing about running up the score is that every pass play Brady ran- worked. How often does a QB rack up 345 yards in one half? Something has to be working. That and the fact that the Titans were awful. A game like that doesn’t happen often and it’s a hell of a confidence builder for the winning team. I’m just sorry that they didn’t keep scoring when they could have. I believe that you reap what you sow and what comes around goes around. The Titans deserved to get their butts handed to them – the pictures above prove this! I just can’t wait till the Patriots do it again- this time to Manning and the overachieving Colts. See ya in a few weeks!!

Or in this case,
paragraph.
Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: The national anthem of Greece has 158 verses. Wonder how long it would take to sing that before a game.

the only reason Brady came out
was cause first play of the 3rd quarter the Titans got called for RtP….my guess is the Pats got the message that if Brady played the second half there was a bounty on his head. They got smart and took him out the next drive
The way our defense is set up, it puts me in situations where I'm one-on-one in making tackles on running backs. When I go into it, I think I am going to win. It really doesn't matter the size, height, weight, whatever. I'm not afraid of putting my body in there." - Bob Sanders

HMMMMMM..
who to agree with. A bunch of armchair quarterbacks or some ex-nfl players, current NFL players, and the Titans head coach.
“Titans coach Jeff Fisher said he did not think the Patriots were running up the score in their 59-0 win against Tennessee on Sunday.
“Former Colts coach Tony Dungy supported Belichick’s gameplan after the game on NBC’s Football Night in America.
“I don’t think he was running up the score,” Dungy said. “If you’re Tennessee, you’ve got to stop them.”
""They were just running their plays and it just so happens that they were working," Titans DL Tony Brown said. “It is up to us as a defense to stop them and we just couldn’t get them stopped when we needed to.”
Keep throwing that classy word around Colts fans. BTW. Wasn’t it Colts fans who booed a little girl last year because she was wearing a Pats jersey?? Now that’s classy!

oh yeah...
and wasnt it the Patriots who used video cameras to spy on other teams to give them an unfair advantage?? You stay classy New England….
