Five Things I Think I Know: Bye Week Edition
No Colts football today, but still plenty of observations
1.) I think football is a little less fun to watch when the Colts don't play. I mean, there are normally plenty of good, entertaining games to watch on almost any given week, but this week just flat out sucked. The over time games between the Jets and Bills was making my eyes bleed and the Giants/Saints game was very disappointing to say the least. I hope that the two prime-time games offer some more excitement. The one coming up right now looks like it could (and hopefully will be) shaping out to be a good one.
2.) I think Mark Sanchez has hit the rookie wall. I'm not sure who said it, but I remember hearing one player from the Vikings say that you cant avoid the rookie wall. Somewhere down the line Sanchez will look like a rookie and the last two weeks have finally exposed him. For this reason the Jets don't scare me as much as the other powers in the AFC. Not only because of Sanchez as a rookie, but also Manning has had a good history against Rex Ryan defenses.
3.) I think trading for Barrett Ruud would be a great move. Well this is opinion is obviously shared by everyone, but It Ill provide my reasoning. If we can acquire Ruud for a reasonable price (its either 2nd round or nothing for me), then it will not only bolster an already solid LB corp to elite level, but it will also give the Colts some insurance for Brackett. It will provide a guy who has played MLB if Brackett gets injured again and it could also give the Colts leverage if they decide not to resign Brackett at the end of the year.
4.) I think the AFC East is going to come down to the Patriots and Dolphins. The Patriots were a given as they are always contenders, but I never felt that the Dolphins were as bad as their record indicated. These last 3 weeks were indicative of that as they ripped off 2 straight against division rivals. Given that they always give the Patriots fits, I anticipate a tight finish for division supremacy.
5.) I think the Colts will get a trade done for a player before the deadline. With the Colts already inquiring about two players, its become apparent that they will land someone that either fits a need or the system to upgrade this team. If the two rumored trades for either Ruud or kicker returner Josh Cribbs don't go through, don't be surprised to see a name like Glenn Dorsey come up in another trade rumor.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

Getting Glenn Dorsey
or somebody like that could explain the Ed Johnson cut. I don’t like Dorsey, he’s too injury prone and not proven
5-0 COLTS? Great!
Jaguars and Texans being 3 games behind? Awesome!
0-6 Titans? Priceless..

im not implying that the Colts will trade for him
However, I do think a trade will be done for someone. I bring up the name dorsey because he has all the physical tools of a Tampa 2 DT and it would make sense with the release of Johnson

They need to predict who will get injured
and trade for his replacement.

I like the idea
of a Session-Ruud-Wheeler LB corp, next year… assuming we don’t re-sign Brackett.
If we WERE to re-sign Brackett… Session-Brackett-Ruud sounds even better.

I have still not seen Wheeler show me that he can play LB at a starters level

He better start in his 3rd year...
that’s more than enough time for a Polian-drafted LB.
Otherwise, I think we have to declare the rule of the 3rd round effective to at least 2008.

I hope the former comes true,
but I don’t think it will. I think he will be gone soon.

Regardless of how Sanchez responds after these past few games...
if Jenkins is out for the year (very possible), the Jets are fucked.

and wouldn’t be wiped up by the heat in warm weather cities.

I agree with you on missing the Colts.
Sundays aren’t the same without them. I feel like I missed my best friend.
I hate the Patriots. As much as I love a good football game, that wasn’t even a game, it was like watching the incredible hulk beat up on a 5 yr.old.
The Giants looked not so giant.
I can’t wait for next Sunday, A weekend without Peyton is like a weekend without sunshine, or chocolate.
I HAD A BLAST TALKING WITH YOU ALL DURING THE OPEN THREAD, IT’S MY NEW FAVORITE THING TO DO ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON. (when the Colts aren’t Playing)

Ok, it’s time to quell this madness that is wanting to trade for Ruud so bad.
What would be the point in trading for a player who is currently a starter and has been a starter the past 3 seasons and spending a high draft pick just so he can sit on the bench, especially when the guy is pretty good. Brackett is one of the most underrated MLBs in the league, and you want to bring in a guy just so we have negotiating leverage on him? Wtf is up with that? He’s a great member of this team and deserves every dollar he asks for in my opinion.
We need depth at MLB and that’s what the draft is for. We don’t need to be paying $1.6 million to a guy warming the bench. Besides, both Ruud and Brackett are free agents next season, so this makes even less sense in my opinion. What would we do then? Gamble on Ruud who has played pretty well in Tampa, or re-sign a sure thing in Brackett? You tell me.

Rudd
I think Indy would move him to SAM.

Ruud
Because he’s really good, and he’d be a significant upgrade over Hagler. Plus, if Brackett got hurt again, like last year, Ruud is a better replacement option than Keiaho.

Ruud is better than Brackett, Session, and Hagler
If you are an elite player, they will find a place for you. He would make the LB core scary good

Agree
Putting him at SAM this year and moving him to be the future at MIKE is a good option

yes , but will it happen?
the bucs have to face the New England Bullies in worldwide TV , they will need him to prevent a titans like humiliation.

I'm agreeing with you, KR
Plus, I read the comments at Pewter Post or whatever it’s called, and there’s a large % of Bucs fans who consider Ruud overrated.
Just the same, I wouldn’t mind trading for him if the deal is right. Ruud was a 2nd round pick (36thOA) so I wouldn’t trade more than a 2 for him, a 3 and one of our backups would be better.
I just don’t see him being the second coming like many do.
Also, I don’t believe the Chiefs will trade Dorsey unless someone offers them the moon.
Despite what Mangini said, I think he would trade Cribbs for a high draft choice, because they need quality starters more than a KR at this point. JMO.

Dorsey isn’t worth trading for anyway. I just don’t trust LSU players. (coughs really loudly) Just sayin…

Bucs fans
They thought Booger McFarland was over-rated too, and they also thought Jon Gruden was a better coach than Tony Dungy.
Never trust a Bucs’ fan’s evaluation.

#3: Trade...
While i’m not familiar enough with Ruud to know what he’d be worth, i can see why upgrading our LB corp a year before Brackett’s contract expires makes good sense. If they can swing it, great. But i’m not convinced that LB is the team’s biggest need.
If the Colts are considering a trade, i think i’d rather them focus on OL. Having watched the Saints game yesterday and seeing how much time Brees had to throw (usually) re-emphasized for me the importance of a stout front line.
I also hope they’re looking for a replacement for Johnson. The Colts’ run defense may be improved, but it’s far from a team strength.
by teej813 on Oct 19, 2009 10:47 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Ruud would help the run d more than most DTs available
DTs arent the only people that stop teams from running on you
by ColtsPurdueFanFromKY on Oct 19, 2009 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
wel not sure a trade is going to happen but
if it does i would think it would be done today because tomorrow is the deadline. i also think if one is done it should probably be an OL i think the LB corp is fine but we do have some on the offensive line struggling of late
by ANGELSFAITH on Oct 19, 2009 10:54 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
OL
I would agree that RG is the position at which we need the most help… but are there any decent guards currently on the trade block?
by hahasound on Oct 19, 2009 10:55 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
IDK
but as BBS just said in the new thread it is rare to see an O-lineman traded at the deadline
