Why I wouldn't mind a Colts Loss to the Rams
This is what Peter King wrote about the game in his picks column:
Indianapolis Colts (5-0) at St. Louis Rams (0-6)
Peyton Manning's only game in the Edward Jones Dome was a horrible loss -- a 42-17 pasting by the Greatest Show On Turf team in 2001 -- and produced some of the most pedestrian numbers of his life: 15 of 28, 195 yards, no touchdowns, one pick. If he has a game worse than that this week, this I vow: I will go a year without mentioning the words "Starbucks'' and "Red Sox'' in Monday Morning Quarterback. Promise.
(courtesy of si.com)
I would sacrifice a loss for him never to talk about baseball in coffee.
How bout you?

NO WAY!
Home field advantage is going to be crucial if we are to win a superbowl. Playing out doors in bad weather would not only weaken our strengths (Our pass oriented offense and our fierce pass rush) but it will also expose our biggest weakness (rush O and run D).
We play our fare share of tough games against contenders (NE, BAL, JETS, DENVER) and surely dont need to lose to arguable one of the worst teams of all time.
I personally think that we dont win the superbowl without home field? How do you guys feel about it?

Home Field
Considering the Steelers and Chargers home playoffs losses, I’m not really sure what constitutes Home Field advantage these days. However, I will contend that if our running game doesn’t improve and we have to go to a Denver, or New England in January we may be in a sore state. That said, the season is still early… blah blah blah.. etc. etc. But yeah, I’m all about first place in the AFC, I’m just not sure it’s the key to a Super Bowl victory.

+1
I wont say its essential to winning the big game for the team, but it sure wont hurt anything by playing at Lucas Oil.

hell no.
home field has nothing to do with it. The patriots have everything to do with it. We lost to the chargers two years in a row, but they shouldn’t be an issue this year. I’m not worried about playing in Pittsburgh, because we have 2 runningbacks who can alternate. I’m worried about playing in New England snow, we just CAN’T WIN. As long as we’re seeded higher than the pats, i’m happy, not to mention it would really hurt to have a 2 week bye (week 17 and widcard). Hopefully Caldwell plays the starters out the whole season.

If he had said he would stop talking about the Patriots
then maybe I woudn’t mind so much.
Nah – let them talk about Starbucks, the Red Sox, the Patriots, and whatever they want… I want a WIN!!!
How can you not love a team that does this?

Nothing in the world would make me sacrifce a win.

ya know..
the Skins kept it close against the skins and jaguars, and relatively close against the packers… I don’t think its about the Rams playing a perfect game, so much as it is the Colts playing an imperfect game. Any given sunday, etc.. Its not like they don’t have talent on the team, if their young, undisciplined lines play above their heads for 4 quarters, who knows.

Or, for that matter, a Bengals loss, Ravens loss, Browns loss, Pats loss, Broncos loss, Cowboys loss(who am I missing?)

btw
i hate to say ‘LOOK AT ME, IM RIGHT’ (but I learned from Cass..:P) But did anyone hear the hosers on PTi monday? Brett Favre is defintely the MVP, no doubt about it, they way he made that Baltimore kicker miss on Sunday, pure MVP.
This is what I hate most about the sports media: they have the memory retention of a dead cat. If a team is on a bye week, out of sight, out of mind. And they have a way of taking one result and blowing it out of proportion epicly.

I think that by the end of the season, he’ll be playing WR, I mean why give credit to the guy who catches the ball? (see: Lewis) This would make it soooo much easier on everyone. yes?

Funny. Favre “did it again – another come back win” – I say, if he’s so great, why did he need a comeback win? I mean they have AP for crissakes, what more do you want?

well what irritates me is
it was more about the ravens kicker missing it than it was about Favre winning it. 44 yards, in a dome, you expect to make that kick, what, 105% of the time?
by SpazMo on Oct 22, 2009 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No doubt.
It was probably at least a 75% kick (without actually having stats in front of me). Sucks to be him.

The official line vs the accepted reason
Officially, Belichick’s response is that the decision was made purely on performance, saying he went with players who "would have a bigger role in the game." [whatever that means] He plays the players who will give the team the best chance to win.
Unofficially, it’s thought that Thomas wasn’t playing up to his potential (or his paycheck.) He missed at least one practice that was not injury related. Whether the benching was related to that or because he hasn’t been as productive as he was brought in to be is anyone’s guess. Either way, we’ll see if it worked on Sunday. Thomas told the media that he’s over his disappointment, he’s moving on and things are fine with him and Bill.
Thomas gets a ride from me for his “double sack” of Brett Favre and Leon Washington in the Jets game last season. The look on Favre’s face was priceless.

Keep the faith!

Okay here's my pick
The Super Bowl will be the 17-1 Colts vs. the 9-7 Dallas Cowboys in Miami. Now before you all start saying that I need to check into the Nut House, let’s think about it.
The Super Bowl has had at least one team that no one expected to be there, every year since 2005. I mean in 2005, did anyone expect the Steelers to make the Super Bowl? In 2006, did anyone expect the Colts to win the Super Bowl? (realistically, not as a fan) In 2007, who in the hell would’ve thought that the Giants would be in the Super Bowl? Last year, who in their right mind would have said that the Cardinals would be in Super Bowl XLIII? Just like now. Who honestly thinks that the Cowboys will make the Super Bowl? I don’t. But with the trend over the last few years, it’s crazy enough to actually happen.

Or it could play out like it did in 2004.
Where the best teams from both confrences make the Super Bowl. (Philidelphia, New England) Which would mean that we’d be seeing a Colts vs. Saints Super Bowl. Which would be sweet.

Not sure about the Bears
They didn’t impress me at all after getting exposed by Arizona that year. I think you could make the serious argument that the Eagles had the best team in the NFC come playoff time. They had an unlucky loss @NO in the divisional round, and would have been a better match for the Colts than the toothless Bears.

That was, by far, the weakest year for the NFC. I was not alive for the 80’s when the NFC was dominant, but I think that it was alot like 2006, when the AFC Title game was the real super bowl.

Are you talking about the Eagles or the Bears?
At any rate, that was probably the weakest year for any conference since 1988, when 11-5 Denver got the #1 seed for the AFC. They were promptly emulsified by San Francisco in the Super Bowl.

True
The first eight weeks of the season, they were seen as the two best teams in the NFL. Once the playoffs started though, no one was picking either the Bears or the Colts. Most were predicting either the Pats vs. the Saints, or else the Chargers vs. the Eagles, or vice versa. Some people were also picking the Ravens too. But that just shows how smart the “experts” are.
