10/23/09 Open Thread

Well, the evening is upon us and it is time for us to discuss the day's news.  And, since it is Friday, we have the opportunity to look forward to this weekend's events.

Don't know what to talk about?  Here are some talking points:

- You favorite college program and their prospects for this weekend in College Football

- Jim Caldwell stating that Bob Sanders will indeed suit up for the Rams game this weekend

- Baseball, America's Pastzzzzzzzzzzzzz......................................

- NBA Preseason

-Your plans for the weekend

- The Platypus

- The fact that excepting the Miami abortion, this Colts defense is 3rd in YPG, 2nd in PPG, 2nd in Rush Defense(68.3 YPG, 3.55 YPC), and 9th in Pass Defense.

- The sucktitude of Diet Sunkist

And anything else that comes to mind.  Open thread time baby.  It's time to start a daily tradition of loserdom!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

Not excited

but certainly hopeful – my motto is “anyone but the Yankees,” but oddly I probably won’t be interested in watching the World Series if it’s the Angels v. Phillies – lol

How can you not love a team that does this?

by LovinBlue on Oct 23, 2009 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I dont think anyone would

I actually thought a LAD vs. LAA match-up might have been fun.

Until the tenth time I heard “That’s Manny just being Manny”….so basically the 6th inning of Game 1

Being from the L.A. area originally

I was definitely hoping for the “Freeway Series,” so am disappointed that that won’t happen. I still like Manny (even though I’m also a Red Sox fan and he pretty much quit on the team), and I have a ton of respect for Joe Torre, so was hoping the Dodgers would get there. Oh well. Basketball is almost upon us!

Well, that does little to placate me

Unless the Pacers manage to REALLY turn things around. I just want 10-12 games over .500

Is that too much to ask?

I don’t think I’m fat, I just think my stomach is. I hope lifting and a lo-carb diet(including trading in Coke regular for Coke Zero) might do something for that.

Honestly,

I drink a lot of soda. And about 4-5 years ago, my mom decided that I was going to drink so much soda (my favorite at the time was Sprite), it needed to be a Diet version. So, she bought pretty much every version of soda in Diet form and had me choose one. I immediately became addicted to the awesomeness of Diet Sunkist, though Diet Mountain Dew wasn’t bad either.

I watch the Finals

and have BB explained to me using Football terms. lol.

But there’s too much action for me to truly focus on Basketball. And too little in Baseball – I want Baseball to start using a play clock and I also want to see people rushing the pitcher….

oh guess what the iowa hawkeyes are the underdog. again

many people around this nation who know nothing of Iowa and its history and tradition, have no idea of the driving force of this team. one can almost sense that somewhere nile kinnick is pumping his fist in joy. Go Hawks!

if college football was allowed to be the fun and enjoyment it is, iowa would be one of the true great stories of this season. but thru the years, it is more of a popularity and $ driven sport from the media. the nice thing for us…. doesnt matter, keep dissing us, keep winning hawks, and lets see what is shaking at seasons end.

Did Iowa steal the Steelers uniform idea

Or did they steal the actual uniforms?

Actually, the modern Steelers uniforms didn't exist until the late 60's

Before that we had the yellow triangle unis and the ones you saw in the SD game. I’d imagine Iowa’s uniforms have changed somewhat as well.

Actually Shake...

You should know this. But the legendary Iowa coach Hayden Fry copied the Steelers’ current uniforms(basically) during the early 80’s in the hope that the team would acquire the same intensity and toughness on defense as the Steel Curtain.

Wasn't a stab at you at all

I was just saying as an Iowa football fan, I would have thought you would know that. I actually remember seeing that on a NFL Network or ESPN classic special about something.
