Quick Recap: Colts defeat Rams 42-6, now 6-0
Strangely frustrating game for a 4 score win that was really never in doubt. Injuries to Wayne, Brown and possibly Sanders along with run D somewhat reminiscent of the Miami game, and Peyton not reaching 300 yards for a record breaking 6th game in a row put a bit of a damper on the Colts win.
But really how upset can you be with a 36 point victory?
3 TD day for Peyton, with 23 receptions spread between 8 players. The Colts rushed for over 150 rushing yards on 25 attempts in large part due to 45 and 31 yard runs from Brown and Simpson, respectively. The Rams gained just 117 yards through the air including 2 TOs. Bulgers only TD of the day went to Colts undrafted rookie CB Jacob Lacey. The pick 6 was Lacey's first career interception. In other defensive firsts Daniel Muir picked up half of his first career sack after sharing one today.
Colts are still undefeated!

I hope Brown is okay
I think we would have got 50 if he was healthy.

I feel bad
Since I am a grammar nazi as well.

Too be too down, shake n' bake
This exactly the kind of win the Colts need – team wins.
O contributes
D contributes
Special Team contributes
Colts took care of the teams they’re supposed to and don’t worry a damn about individual stats. That’s for the Pats.
Nice win in my book!
I love this quote from the AP recap
“It wouldn’t have been appropriate for the Indianapolis Colts quarterback to try to tie the NFL record the way his unbeaten team was beating up on the woeful St. Louis Rams.”
Not-so-subtle dig at Tom Brady and the Patriots? I love it. Peyton and Colts = class.
We need to
keep things in perspective…I’m in Columbia, Missouri and look how MO’s NFL teams are doing…I’m very happy for our 36 point win!
Injuries
I dont think Sanders is hurt…he looked fine walking off the field. I think it was just his time to hit the showers considering it was his first game back.
Reggie came back…no issues there.
Still unsure about D. Brown, but if it is anything, I think it only keeps him out for 1-2 weeks.
i'll keep asking this, especially since you seem to be an injury expert
Addai, Wayne, Manning, Brown, Brackett, Freeney, Mathis, and a few others ended their days early. How many went to the locker room?
This is a frendly blog, no need to be an ass...
I never claimed to be an expert, just making educated guesses. I am sure they took Bob back to go work with a trainer since this was his first game back in many moons. Probably to check him out and make sure everything is AOK. Of all those players you listed, none of them were playing in their first game back from a severe knee injury.
Not being an ass, being serious
you diagnosed Brown, Reggie and Bob, so I was curious as to why someone who was ‘fine’ would be taken to the locker room, when other people that were taken out of the game, even hurt, didn’t.
Dosen’t take an expert to diagnose Wayne…he came back and played. Bob was walking back to the locker room with a trainer showing no signs of discomfort…tells me he was just going back to work out the kinks. Brown worries me a little, but I think if it is anything he misses 1-2 weeks worst case.
also
Marlin Jackson was coming back from a worse knee injury – wasnt going to locker room at end of games. Peyton Manning last year was in the middle of a devastating injury, wasnt going to locker room at end of games.
Bob Sanders does have a history of being a tough guy, but lets assume for the moment that he injured something other than his knee, anything above the waist would allow you to walk to the locker room without discomfort.
Bob Sanders did not get hurt
He was finished playing and went to the locker room. Read the recap. He’s not injured. Why don’t you quit jumpin on the guy for being optimistic? You act like every injury is life threatening. Freeney didn’t miss a game either. Poor example on your part.
btw, i think the frustration stems from
being pinned deep too many times and a few too many punts… Don’t know why, really wanted manning to go 16 straight 300 yard games. Offensive line looked pretty average today (lilja, johnson and saturday are solid, but the right side of the line is going to end someone’s career). Running game still scares me, but Brown has one hell of a burst. Runs too upright, tho.
Yep
How lucky are we that we’re so used to greatness that merely winning by 36 isn’t enough?
That’s what is so great about this team. They’re unbeaten and rolling yet there are many things to improve still. I’m glad there’s still room to get better. I want them firing on all cylinders in January. I could care less if they’re 100% perfect right now.
Diem got beat way too often on passing plays, but at least he’s on the side Peyton sees coming. Pollak still isn’t the best run blocker (though DeVan didn’t impress me at first glance either). Dallas missed a ton of run blocks. Garcon took another penalty. The run D took several series off. The entire secondary bit on a flea flicker (whatever… I’m OK with that). The coaches ordered punts on 4th and 1 at the 46 and from the 38 (4th and long, but still).
It wasn’t perfect. But I’m OK with saving the perfect for late.r
Wow everyone
I understand that we Colts fans expect great things during the regular season, But all of you need to take a step back and look whats going on around the league…we just scored 6 touchdowns and allowed 0 of ’em
- Sanders and Hayden Didn’t play very well???!!!!! Oh GODDDDD!! You mean to tell me that Colts players don’t get better while they sit on the bench to rest injuries? WTF is wrong with them? Rust Maybe
- The only “injury” is Brown, and that is still unclear
- Whining about Peyton not throwing for 300 yds? It’s a little case of something called class. How did this put a “damper” on the win? Get a grip, We just DESTROYED another team, and It makes you (nobody in particular btw) sound like a spoiled whiny bitch to find negatives in a 42-6 WIN

Brown injury
I am cautiously optimistic. He got hurt early and I assume he would be taken to get x-rayed at half time (though maybe not). Either way he was NOT in a sling and was standing on the sidelines and seemed to be in no noticeable pain. Just had his hands on his hips. I hope he’s all right. I think he proved today he is the better runner than Addai. Bradford had a second degree strained shoulder and was in a sling when he came back out (to the sidelines) in the BYU game. I think it was figured the game was in hand and no need to play Brown.
Lot of somewhat disappointed comments considering
a 36 point spread. I’ll take it, with a smile. I love to watch games at the sports bar which don’t include me swearing at the tv screens. Would have like to see the running game break out, but The Donald looked mighty good till he went out. Addai had a respectable day. Couple of runs over 10 yds and got the short stuff when he had to.
Sanders isn't injured..
.. Caldwell himself said they’d have a pre-determined snap cap for Bobby and he stayed true to his word it was 25 snaps then hit the showers. Bob even said afterwards that he it was nice to finish a game unscathed
Not a lot of negatives today
It wasn’t flashy, and no one stood out significantly, but it was a great team win.
1) Dan Muir played great. Surprised I didn’t see Moala more, but Muir clearly has the starting spot locked down.
2) Brown is an absolute stud and is the better RB between him and Addai, and I don’t think it’s close. Brown explodes through the hole and works to get extra yards. Addai is still solid, but he continues to dance WAY too much and refuses to cut up. He runs to the outside regardless if their is room or not. And that fumble in the first half did not help him much, I’m sure. I wouldn’t be shocked to see a 60-40 split in Brown’s favor from now on. That is of course if Don’s injury is not too bad (please be okay).
3) Garcon looked a bit sloppy, dropped some easy passes and got flagged, but still showed how high his ceiling of potential is.
4) Good for Jacob Lacey. This kid was yet another steal by Polian and has star potential. The excessive celebration call was bogus and that ref should be ashamed.
5) Peyton looked yet again like the best QB in football, even with a few miscues.
6) Welcome back Bob. A little bit of rust, but good to see him out there. Same with Hayden, great job with the pick in the fourth.
7) 42-6. A blowout without looking like a bunch of classless prima donnas.
You won't see a 60-40 split
You won’t see a 60-40 split for Brown over Adaii. The Colts are going to stick to their game plan until the end of the year of giving Adaii more carries. Rookies tend to wear out if used to much during the course of the year. They will probably change that in the playoffs, but i doubt if you will see it during the regular season.
Good point
about rookies getting worn out. I didn’t think of that when I was typing out the post, but you’re right. Whatever the split is though, I think he is the more dangerous of the two taking handoffs. Addai is still a big time player for us, too, don’t get me wrong, I just get a little tired of his dance moves when he could be getting 10+ yards extra if he just bursts through.
Addai is fine
but Brown just runs harder and is a bit quicker.
For the reasons noted above, he won’t get too many carries, and that’s fine. I just hope he keeps playing this well when he is in there. It certainly can’t hurt Addai to have someone nipping at his heels. Perhaps his style and production will insprire Addai.
For my money Addai is still by far the better blocker. But that’ll come in time for Brown too.
I'll be the first to give Chad Simpson
a pat on the back for his 31 yard TD run for the last score. He has taken a fair amount
of abuse for his kickoff returns.
When I saw that run
I thought, “So that’s why they have him returning kicks even tough he’s not any good at it.”
All in all, it was about as frustrating a game as you can have when you win by 36. The Rams had pretty good special teams play and have an underrated defense (as much as an 0-7 defense can be anyway). It was frustrating to take on those injuries, and to see Manning’s 300 yard streak end, but I’ll take a nice comfortable win, enjoy 6-0 and hope we can do as well next week against the 49ers.
