Monday Night Football Open Thread
Packers @ Vikings, although everyone in the media thinks Brett Favre is playing by himself. Thankfully for him, he has Adrian Peterson, and a pretty good defense playing with him.
Fantasy wise I need Purple Jesus and the Packers Defense to combine for 89 points. That's 300 yards rushing, 6 TDs for Peterson, and 4 Turnover Touchdowns, and 3 sacks for the Packers defense. So there's a chance...
Discuss away.

Just an off week
Played against Mendenhall and 49ers defense. I’ll take a beat down anyday over a 1 point loss.
Just trying to get ~40 to stay up with the points leaders. I like my team, but just had a bad week. It happens.

Stampede Blue League
Need 17 points from Rodgers, Longwell, and Packers D. I think I will get that to go to 4-0, even without knowing Willie Parker was not going to play.
In Over-Overflow league, Chester Taylor, Driver, and Packers D vs. Crosby and 28 points. Not so confident with that one.

last year he had a bit of the rookie tendency to run when it wasn’t necessary. Totally understandable.
He’ll probably move around a bit more than he has to for a while… but at least he throws well on the run. As well as anyone in the game, actually.

depends on the play calling
if Favre isn’t allowed to throw downfield, it won’t be him.
If the Packers don’t get a pass rush (hard to do with that running attack and the quick release/short throws anyway) it’ll also be hard for Favre to screw up.
by willyduer on Oct 5, 2009 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That was a hell of a throw
and while the other WR downfield ended up not blocking the one guy, he was at least doing the right thing, looking for someone to hit.
The Packer OL looks completely overmatched. Pretty cool for them that it’s 7-7.

hm, maybe not. I guess that was a normal speed throw.
Wish they were zoomed out more though so we could see when WInfield broke on that. He was giving almost 10 yards of cushion on that, but easily beat the receiver to the ball, which was thrown low and away. Fine throw, but obviously telegraphed.

VY can’t run straight ahead into the line the way the Fins do. They can run him all they want, all it means is that a more talented runner – Johnson – isn’t getting touches. That’s a good thing.

the wildcat success was way less about confusion and way more about great execution by them.
They were so dominant up front on those plays that it makes me seriously wonder whether they practiced their regular plays half as much as the wildcat ones.
by willyduer on Oct 5, 2009 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
why?
Young sucks. They can start him once the season is 100% over. Right now they still have a prayer if they win this game. They have to start Collins.

Peyton has had stretches like that too though. When you’re playing from behind every game, INTs happen.

That’s the expression we use to say a player is practicing. Sometimes, guys will be out there, but if they don’t have a helmet, they’re just watching. My colleague said Sanders was out there for practice. It would appear the hunch that Tennessee week was his target for returning is accurate. We’ll see how much he practices later in the week, and more importantly, how his knee handles it.

You messed up.
About a 1/3 of the way through, you didn’t have a space between one of your Favre’s. You can see by it not lining up at the end of every line.
Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.
Man, I need a life...

WHY... ON EARTH.... ARE YOU PUNTING?
You’re down 14 in the 4th quarter and it’s 4th and 1. You’ve had two possessions all goddamn half.
WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU PUNTING?
I never thought I’d say this… but the Vikings win at Coach too.
This is a pitiful showing for everyone on the Pack except Rodgers. But he’s not quite Manning, so he’s not going to pull this one out of his butt.

"[The Giants] beat us down. We were beat by a grown-man team, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. Out-manned us, out-gunned us. ... It wasn't even close." - Raheem Morris, 9/27/09

obviously
I’m virtually certain he’ll write about that.
If Favre does any passing for the rest of the game it’s totally just “fuck you” yardage to hit 300. It’s not necessary to win.

yea
although the Packers have pretty much shut down Peterson. Who’d have thought they’d be able to shut him down and still be losing by 14

I wouldn't say shutting him down
as much as they just stopped running as much. He had a few short runs in a row and they stopped running. If they wanted him to get 100 he’d get 100.

speaking of preposterous punts...
this one from the 40 is pretty fucking dumb too.
Even if they did manage to pin them at the 1.

he's only averaging 2.5 ypc though
maybe shut down is the wrong word, but they’ve definitely contained him, which for AP is pretty much the same thing as shutting down anyone else

A Manning staring contest commercial would be the best one yet.

Not going for it on fourth down
was as stupid as the Bucs going for a field goal on fourth down and the end of their game with the Redskins. A TD would have won it. Instead they were content to pull within 3 points with just a few minutes left. What gutless swine.
by Ayrshire on Oct 5, 2009 11:13 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i dislike people that refuse to put the offense on the field on 4th down unless they are trailing by 21 with 2 minutes left to go. Hey! Lets wait till its too late to give a shit! That’s a great idea!
Or, as you stated, ‘hey! Let’s not worry about putting the game away, lets give them the ball back!’
You have supposedly the best RB in football. You have supposedly one of the best OLs in football. Go get a fucking yard.

don't be so sure about that

Literally every single thread on BTB turns into a fight between Romo bashers and Romo defenders. I’m not sure how Colts fans feel about the Cowboys, but as a Giants fan it’s music to my ears

I actually read a thread on Blogging The Boys today
where he claimed Romo was better than Peyton Manning. I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of money
that “old” Peyton Manning will have more success over the rest of his career than Tony Romo

no, he was annoying.
i mean REALLY annoying. we lose once to the cowboys on an away game and he proclaimed they kicked our ass for like 2 years. Plus he had an unhealthy obsession with Romo.
