Defensive Line Improvement
Not surprisingly, the interviewer didn’t ask enough FOOTBALL questions.
When Robert was asked about the improvement the Colts have made against
the run since the 235-yd. debacle vs. the Dolphins, the interviewer should have
known about the comments made at that time that the defensive tackles were
getting blown off the ball because of poor technique: I.E. they were not getting
low enough on the initial charge. You never, ever let the offensive lineman get
his shoulders beneath yours! Sure, there was an element of confusion by the
Colt’s defense on a few of the Wildcat plays, but fundamentals were the primary
culprit. I would have loved to have heard Robert mention that Defensive Line
Coach Teerlinck had emphasised that fundamental. With another excellent
running team coming up Sunday, I will be watching for that…
