SBNation.com ranks the Colts #1
I typically hate power ranking in the NFL, especially ones made during Week Four. Last year this time, people had the Buffalo Bills as a top 5 team. They hit the halfway point at 6-2, and looked like a playoff lock.
They finished the season 7-9.
Still, even though rankings are a bit silly, these rankings are done by SB Nation's own NFL bloggers. So, when my colleagues vote that the team I love looks good after four weeks, I give them props.

I'd trust the SBNation.com bloggers
way over the so-called ‘experts’. After all, it was the experts who said the Colts would have a difficult transition this year. I always knew that was a bunch of garbage. When Peyton’s runs the offense, magic awaits. The so-called experts just don’t get it. And, they prove daily that they’re really not experts at all.

I always considered these SB Nation bloggers
the true experts. If there’s one thing we know, it’s our team. And we also know quite a bit about certain rivals……

Potential candidates for 2009 Bills
Broncos, 49ers, Bengals. Not buying any of those teams as legit threats, although they have the chance to make the playoffs due to soft schedules or weak divisions.

I buy the 49ers the most,
followed closely by the Bengals. I have absolutely no faith in the Broncos though.

The Broncos have enough to stuff the Pats at home. I may be a tard, but I bet the Broncs.

I hope so, too
It be awesome to the Pats fall to the Broncos.

I agree with you
I really believe that the 49ers have done a 180 with Singletary changing the culture there. I know Mike ain’t thinkin about the Crabtree clown; he could care less whether he plays for him or not.
The Bengals look to be heading in the right direction, but the jury is still out on the Broncos.
Winning a game on a fluke play against the Bengals, beating the Raiders (I, like many ppl in the media, thought were heading in the right direction, but they proved me wrong :-( ) and a very overrated Cowboys team isn’t enough to say that they’re a real threat in the playoffs.
In addition to all of that, it’s the fact that Kyle Orton is their starting quartreback. Don’t get wrong, he has a very good record as a starting quarterback, but what happens when he faces a real defense (No, the Cowboys don’t count since their secondary can’t even cover a table) like the Ravens, Steelers, Giants, and maybe the Colts. I could see them being the 2009 Bills.

As long as Al Davis owns the Raiders
They’ll never be heading in the right direction. Every story you hear about the Raiders portrays their back office as a complete shambles, as long as they can’t get it together off the field, it doesn’t matter how good their talent is on it.

Very true
It’s shame since the Raiders does have talent on both offense and defense, but the quarterback is just horrible.

There's an interesting article on Russell
On Yahoo! today.
You wonder how much of it is his fault, and how much of him being awful is a complete lack of coaching and leadership.

Bengals
It’s got to be. They’ve got the Ravens and the Steelers in their division. The Niners have no one good in their’s. The Broncos will go 0-4 over their next 4 games.

re: 2008 Bills
I don’t really think they were overrated at 6-2. Trent Edwards took a devastating hit/concussion against the cardinals (the guy was fined). He hasnt been the same QB since, but the Bills were able to eek out some games because they had Munchon Lunch and a relatively easy schedule. Their defense, if they could stay healthy, is good and they have two kick ass running backs.
I know this isn’t really relevant, but I’ve always felt the Bills WERE good last year, but Trent Edwards just isn’t the same guy anymore. I think he hears more footsteps than Brady, thats why he averages like 1 yard per pass attempt.

I trust the Bengals the least out of that group. The 49ers and the Broncos play in easy divisions. I mean, the Broncos get the Chargers, Raiders, and Chiefs. The 49ers get the Seahawks, Cardinals, and Rams. The Bengals get the Ravens, Steelers, and Browns. The 49ers have an easier road than the Broncos or Bengals, by far, especially with the AFC being so top heavy (IND, BAL, NE, NYJ, etc.).

Reality Check
I hate this week to week rankings… we became number 1 because we beat up on a banged up Seatle team and the Ravens are not even in the top 5 because they lost a close one to the Patriots.
This sunday if the Giants or the Vikings blow up their opponent and we win a 21-20 game…. they will probably be ranked ahead of us. This is just plain old stupid.
I have fallen for this early season stuff before (2004, 2005, 2007, 2008), all these years the media crowned us the Super Bowl Chams at one time or another…. I going to pretend to have seen this movie before…. Of all the awesome winning streaks we have had we have had only one superbowl victory.
So please keep things in perspective, We are a good football team and thats about it.
Our Offense has looked awesome but we have gone up against teams that are ranked in the bottom half in pass defense and they dont get to the QB. All that means is that our O-line is still untested and our young wide outs have yet to go up against a solid secondary.
Our defense has yet to play a team that in ranked in the top 10 total defense.
LETS PLEASE KEEP THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE

I agree
I’m just taking it one week at a time. I want ESPN to talk about us, but at the same time I don’t. I want our boys to get the respect they deserve, but not to the point where they’re already crowning us as the team to beat. Let everyone jump on the Saint bandwagon and the East coast teams that BSPN drool over.
p.s.
Don’t you mean our defense has yet to play a team that is ranked in the top 10 total offense?

I agree completely.
tbh, I really don’t know who we’re playing after the Titans – and I like it that way. Focus on the opponent at hand.
I’m also torn between wanting the love for our guys and wanting to fly under the radar…

I know what you mean
I think it was on NFL Live Trey Wingo was asking Tedy Brushi and someone else who were the best 4-0 team and neither one mentioned the Colts, but that’s cool, I rather the Colts be the best 3-0 or 4-0 team in Feb ’10 with coach Caldwell and Peyton hoistering the Lambardi trophy in Miami than the best 4-0 team in Sept/Oct.

The best compromise to that
is to have the announcers and analysts drool over the Colts while they’re playing and during the day-after analysis, and then forget about the Colts/doubt the Colts when talking about next week’s games. That way, you get the love and flying under the radar.

I believe the Colts are more than a good football team.
They’re a great one! They’re a precision, surgical, slice and dice monster. And, they’re going to destroy the Titans. Let’s face it, these are great times to be a Colts fan!
by Ayrshire on Oct 8, 2009 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would rather call Jan and Feb a good time
We have always been this good again poor teams. It’s the big boys who give us problems. I am not going to let anyone convince me that this offense is better than the 04 one. They used words such as surgical, precision Then too…. We scored 3 points against the Pats.
All this means in that we are capable of being a playoff caliber team. Nothing different from previous years.

I stand by my comment above.
As a matter of fact, considering the zone the Colts are in now, I predict the final score: Colts 48, Titans 7.

Wow, I like that. I was thinking: Colts 35 Titans 14

Colts
always seem to do best when they are in ‘nobody believes in us’ mode. This mostly applies to the defense, I think. The offense always seems to be in ‘Not a lot of people believe in deities, fuck you’ mode.

There's something different about the Colts this year,
over last year. Not just Peyton being healthy. I can’t put my finger on it. But it’s there. They seem energized or something. Whatever Caldwell has done, it’s working.

i think one thing thats different is...
you have a lot of young players that think they should be starters, but aren’t necessarily. Hagler has to fight for a spot over Wheeler. Powers wants to be a starter, both Johnsons have something to prove – Mookie, that he should never have been a mere PS player and Ed, that he won’t mess up again. Bullitt wants to prove, for his next job, that he can do it. Keiaho is wanting to prove that he should never have been left unsigned all off-season. Charlie Johnson wants to prove he’s not a human turnstyle and beat out Ugoh. Garcon and Collie have felt what its like to make the starting roster, and they probably don’t want to give it up.
Competition is a great thing. I’m sure thats over simplifying things, but I think when you’re not just hanging Gilbert Gardner the starting job, and instead making people compete for their jobs, it brings out the best in them.

he played for the Titans for a year, then bounced to the Lions and Bears. He’s been out of work since the beginning of last offseason.
