I'd bet that Bob Sanders plays Sunday. Seriously folks, Polian and Caldwell want this game. They probably held him off the PUP JUST for this game. I have a feeling the Colts are going to come out strong on Sunday and play this game to win hard. I'm expecting to see all hands on deck. That includes Bob Sanders. And yes, he does matter that much. Don't make the mistake of forgetting how good this guy is.

It should be some serious insanity!

And, I mean that in a very good, rip their heads off, kind of way.

I predict a

Colts 35 – Titans 17

I'll have to talk to DZ about this....

Freeney aside, the Colts are pretty damn conservative when it comes to returning form injuries. I think Bob returned for the huge Pats game a few years ago, then missed the next 8 games before the playoffs. Do we want that? It worked out okay then, but….

I knew the 06 Patriots. I played the 06 Patriots. And you, 09 Titans, are no 06 Patriots.

Parahrasing Bentsen-to-Quayle never gets old.

Good thought

That includes Bob Sanders. And yes, he does matter that much. Don’t make the mistake of forgetting how good this guy is.

Totally agree, when he comes back, the D will improve even more. Many prefer Bullitt over Bob, and they have good reasons for that but Bobzilla will ahve a bigger impact than Melvin.

Bob needs to not play

I’m sorry, but I’d rather him at 100% injury free then still nursing injuries. More importantly, We have the bye week next, then we are at St. Louis. That would be the perfect game to let him come back in, get some reps at game speed, and not be as concerned with it being a critical game.

A division game against the Titans is not a game I want Sanders (if he’s not 100%) playing in. I’d rather take my chances….

More importantly, if the repugnant offense of the Jaguars can light their defense up for almost 40pts…..

by DevilsReject on Oct 8, 2009 2:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

My worry

is that if they play him too much, he will be injured again and then worthless to the team until the end of the season. This creates more and more anger amongst fans and doesn’t make much sense to me.

I would rather ease him back into it so he can play, but continues to get healthy and can be a major factor in December and January.

I agree with the comments about why he didnt start on the PUP list but.....

Polian and Caldwell probably didnt expect the Titans to be 0-4… they were probably expecting the winner of this game to lead the division. I for one thing Bob should be back for the Rams game, get the rust off so he can be ready to go for that important stretch.

For the borderline injury cases… taking this week off would essentially give them a nice 4 weeks to rest up. I feel Hayden, Bracket, Sanders should be help out and Freeney should only play the Passing downs.

I don't agree

The problem is, this is a divisional game. The Titans record might be terrible, but we do have a Jags team that has managed to work up two divisional wins rather quickly. Do we want to start with a 1-1 divisional record? I don’t think so. I personally believe that Bob has been ready to go for a week or two, but they wanted him to be 100% for this game, no matter what the Titans record was. This division has been hard fought recently, so we can’t afford to lose momentum.

Get Bob in there, play some 3 safety nickel, rotate Freeney in and out, and let Lacey and Powers get some significant snaps and show the Thumbtacks how our new D-backs can play Man as well as Zone. That should give them some significant issues moving the ball on us, especially the way that Collins has played this year.

My predicitions:

3 sacks
1 FF, 1 FR
2 INTs
3.2 YPC
2 Rushing TDs allowed
0 Passing TDs
50% Red Zone Conversion allowed
< 5 YPA Passing
< 40% 3rd Down Conversion allowed

Let’s go D! Play some Colts Ball!

I agree with you but

looking at Sander’s past… he can barely stay healthy… I much rather have him for the 49ers, texans, pats, ravens, texans, titans, broncos, jags, jets (that is beastly… no game expect for the bills game seems like a easy win… every other game will end up being a pretty close)…. i would much rather have Sanders, hayden, bracket and Freeney play that stretch than the Titans, Bye, Rams stretch…. we are yet to play a team with a winning record… we have atleast 5 teams to beat that have a 3-1 or better record after 5 games.

The Titans are going to be tougher than their 0-4 record indicates but their defense is beat up and our whole offense is going to be playing (except Gonzo)… we should be able to out score them…. Why do we need Hayden and Sanders back against their wide receivers…. Powers and Bullitt will get the job done. If Keiaho plays like he did last game… we should be fine.

If we lose this game it will be because we didnt come out ready… not because we are under handed. This current team is good enough to beat any other team…. Why risk getting completely healthy and becoming a Dominant team.

I agree

with BROWNdude.

And Bullard47, I wouldn’t worry if we end up with the same divisional record as the Jags—we will likely finish in the area of 13-3 and they never will, so that tie-breaker aspect will not come into play. I’d say 10-6 is reasonably optimistic for them, perhaps wildly optimistic.

We can win this one without Bob. We can beat the hapless Rams without him as well.

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

by tim55 on Oct 8, 2009 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

true but

I know that we CAN win this game without Bob, but I am saying why not use this opportunity to get him used to the speed of the game again and ensure us the W? Look, my whole viewpoint if predicated on the fact that Bob is healthy, and probably has been for at least a week.

Bob wants to play this game, and the coaching staff probably wants him to play it as well. This game is a confidence builder, we need to lay waste to them at least as well as the Jags did last week. Primetime, big rivalry, much ballyhooed opponent, bad matchup in certain areas – the Colts can make a statement to not only the world, but themselves.

I say go 100%, if Bob is going to get injured again, he will, and we can’t worry about that. He is just as likely to get injured in the 11 next regular season games. We can’t count on the Jags sucking it up the rest of the year. Always maintain a full head of steam, and have your 45 best players suited up for Game Day.

That's what the Rams are for

That a nice match up after the bye week, gives us a chance to knock of the rust and continue marching forward.

BREAKING NEWS: Fred Taylor injured!

This just in: Fred Taylor injured!

Who’d have guessed THAT!?!? Ankle surgery, out indefinitely, but not IR. Yeah, because 32 year-old RBs recover so well. Especially injury-plagued ones. He had 45 carries this year and the next two rushers didn’t total that together. I like Sammy Morris and Faulk, but LoMo is another fragile back they’d be wise to not rely too much on.

Tommy, gear up for 50 passes a game. Indy D, gear up for your specialty.

haha one of the comments on this over at MCM was...
he clearly has an indepth knowledge of the colts playbook. now when peyton yells ‘red, yellow, iroqois, hipachi, nam, coconut, pineapple sushi!’ at the line of scrimmage, we’ll know exactly whats going on.

and he’ll still torch us.

Yes he would, but Im sure the words he uses for plays are changed frquently to avoid people figuring out whats goin on…anyone agree with that?

actually, I have noticed a trend in Peyton's audibles

audibling to anything containing the word “chili” on the goal line means an 8-9 yard touchdown run by Joseph Addai. It happened this week, and I feel like it happened in the 2006 AFC championship game. Anybody else noticed this?

Colts secondary thin Sunday...

Looks like both Hayden and Jackson are out Sunday (per Oesher).

Charlie Johnson still hasn’t practiced this week.

No clue as to Bob’s involvement on Thursday, Oesher only mentions that he practiced Weds, doesn’t mention Thurs.

Bobzilla playing

Looking at the schedule, the Texans and Jags have games they could well (maybe should) lose, which would put them at 2-3. Beating the Titans puts us at 5-0 and them at 0-5, which means they have to run the table to tie if we just go 6-5. Since the Titans have been a pain in the a*s, I would hope that the Colts would go all out to win this game.
On another point, I would not play Sanders in any game that we should win easily without him; i.e. the Rams, who are awful. Why risk him getting hurt, again, when he is not essential to winning the game?
If he doesn’t play against the Titans, i would hold him out at least until the Texans game and maybe for the Patriots.
