COLTS (-12.5) over Niners
Five weeks ago, I promised to keep riding the Saints until they lost. Then I took the Dolphins last week. Stupid? Of course. Well, I'm going to make up for it by riding the Colts until they lose. That's the best team in football. Right now, anyway.(That reminds me: More than a few Colts fans thanked me during signings this week for "coming around on Peyton" or "finally appreciating Peyton." As if I had been irrationally biased against him this entire time. Look, you can't tell me Manning didn't reinvent himself to some degree in 2008 and 2009. I always thought he was the A-Rod of football: great when it didn't matter, sketchy when it did. You may disagree. But that's how I felt. This season, he has reached "I will never, ever, EVER bet against that guy in a night game" status. Which is saying something. He owns that team. Owns it. I love rooting against the Colts, but when someone owns a team to that degree, how can you not appreciate it? I mean, it's unclear if Jim Caldwell is even alive. For all we know, Manning is doing the QB-coach thing like Paul Crewe in "The Longest Yard." Amazing season by him.)
Say what you will about Billy Simmons but I've always liked this guy. Yeah he's a NE/Boston homer to the core, but it takes a lot of pride swallowing to say some of the things he has lately about Peyton and the Colts, this quote proves such.
Just remember people, the media and Patriots ballwashers can say what they want but in the end the Colts will have the last laugh.

WOW. Peyton owns me.

I don't like it
He’s still clinging to the idea that he wasn’t wrong about Peyton before 08/09. Apparently it makes more sense to him that Peyton became clutch rather than there isn’t really such a thing as clutch.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.

I think his point has a shred of truth to it. If you ever watch that documentary about the 2006 AFC Championship game, all of the Patriots players kept talking about how the Colts needed to prove to themselves that they could beat the Patriots in a big game like that, blah blah blah. And it’s true. Regardless of regular season record against the Colts, the Patriots owned the Colts. And excluding 2 blowouts of the Broncos in the playoffs, Manning was never really “Manning.”
All of his points are valid in my opinion. Just like if someone ever told me “Dude the Chargers own the Colts in the playoffs man!” What the hell could I say to that? It’s true. I can’t argue against it. Sure I could make excuses for the losses, but that’s all they are. Obviously I believe that the Colts are the “better” than the Chargers, but for whatever reasons the Colts just can’t get over that hump.
Clearly those times are long gone now. The Colts finally beat their nemesis, and with that win Simmons started to realize, just like the Patriots players and a majority of their fans, that the Colts are a force to be reckoned with. That is unless they play the Chargers in the playoffs. : (
I did this a few times at that dump of a site I used to write for so I figured, hell, why not try it out over at Stampede Blue you know? At least this time someone will actually be reading it.

you could say that two one score games isn't much of a sample to draw from
if you flip a coin twice and get heads both times do you assume that the coin isn’t fair?

and even if you by 2006 as a sudden turning point Simmons is 2 years late on Peyton becoming "clutch"

I really don't know that guy
but his points are all valid. Sad but true.
However, I think it’s so unfair to start respecting Manning just after 06, while he’s had an amazing career. Just stupid
About that documentary of the 06 AFCCG, I really don’t know what the Patriots guys were saying, but if they really said the Colts needed to prove themselves against THE patriots is just so stupid to me. Like, OK, we’re Gods, try beating us. Its like claiming that now, the Colts have to prove themselves against the Chargers. Gimme a break (anyway, its old talk I guess)

Sorry, off topic announcement: Phil B's Indy Star live chat is not available at the default location
Working link: http://www.indystar.com/article/99999999/sports03/399990509.
For some odd reason, the regular http://blogs.indystar.com/philb link isn’t working. Sorry to be a bit off topic here, folks, but I figured I’d try to get the word out to some folks at least.

I think Peyton re-invented himself after the Vandershank.
His demeanor seemed different to me during the Super Bowl season. Anyone else notice that?
