A Poll of 2 Kickers....

Stover has been impressive, but Vinateri has proven to be clutch.  Personally, I think Stover has been extremely consistent thus far, yet, he hasn't had to make any extremely pressuring kicks.  Adam has missed a few very makable kicks, yet he seems to deliver everytime it matter.

Lets debate what the Colts should/will do?  Maybe keep 2 kickers (that takes up a roster spot), but they could be situational kickers...odd, I know, but hey, we have Reggie Wayne and Joe Addai throwing passes!  :)

Poll
Do you prefer we keep Matt Stover even when Vinateri returns, or should we release Stover and give Adam the starting job back?
Stover's kicks have looked more convincing...keep what works!

Adam is clutch and even though he doesn't have a leg and misses some makable kicks, he is the man when January comes around,

tough

Both have NFL caliber accuracy, I don’t believe in clutch, Vinny has better range, but is it worth paying an extra 2 million for the ability to extend your FG range 10ish yards.

Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.

Agreed. I’m kind of shocked we both feel the same way on this issue.

I did this a few times at that dump of a site I used to write for so I figured, hell, why not try it out over at Stampede Blue you know? At least this time someone will actually be reading it.

You do realize...

Matt Stover is known for clutchness too… Vinny is just slightly better known because of SB winning kicks, etc.

Oh no!

by Bluedude on Nov 11, 2009 3:35 PM EST reply actions

I am well aware...

However, no one is as clutch as Vinny…not only the Superbowl, but how about the ice-game with those darn Patsies, and most impressively, the 5 field goals against the Ravens in the playoffs of our Superbowl run.

I voted for Stover because,

I’m a little worried about Nougatieri getting his groove back after surgery.

Agreed

Happy with Stover and only happy with Nougatieri if he’s healed and in a groove—don’t want to risk him missing important kicks just to find out he has a “hitch in his giddayup.”

Though the REAL measure of which kicker we should go forward with this year is who throws the best pass. Either one has to be better then Reggie.

Indy Lori, If I may further elaborate...

as one who got Rick Rolled, I think the particular (and particularly grating) video linked to is impossible to close. Your cursor over the “escape box” makes the whole vid screen move to another location, over and over and over again. You chase it around a couple times feeling like a moron. (at least I did)

When it happened to me I just closed down my browser.

To summarize:
1) Being duped into going to a site you don’t want to visit = bad

2) Being duped into going to a site that makes you want to claw your ears and eyes out, plus you cannot close it out = you’ve been Rick Rolled

I dont believe in this clutch stuff

Adam could of easily missed that kick in the snow, theres a bit of luck involved in it, as he cant judge exactly what power and aim to put into it, so when he makes this great kick once, he could easily miss it everytime if he redid it another 10 times.

Get someone with a decent leg, plus im sick of having kickers who cant kick from behind the 30 yard line on madden :P

has everyone forgot thant clutch vinny never came to the colts that guy stayed in new gayland, what did we get a sometimes alrigt loser who misses 25 yards cheap shots against the chargers

only games thall ill ever thank him for is the ones that he played on the 2006 playoffs no more no less

kicker comparison

I think Adam Vinateri can kick longer field goals. But Matt Stover has better field goal percentages than Adam. With as often as Adam Vinateri is out injured, I think it makes sense to use Stover. The Colts could also look at a third option and go for a kicker late in the draft. I think most of the kickers in the NFL are just getting too old. Someone on tv brought the topic up a week or two ago and I think they are right. And as a result, the kickers aren’t kicking as long of punts and field goals. Most of the kickers out there are around 40 or older.

by ColtsFanInEnemyTerritory on Nov 12, 2009 3:45 PM EST reply actions

Here's the thing...

Until Vinny is healthy, and I mean kicking 50 yards field goals healthy……than Stover is the kicker….period…

Vinny can kick from 50, but if he can’t do it without some kind of consistency because his leg, it’s a no brainer on keeping Stover….

In fact, if the Colts believe he can’t go…..IR him for an extra roster spot….because I’d rather lose a game on 4th down than a missed field goal because of a bad legged kicker..
