i dont think its the corners so much. I mean

its just really been a sweet game plan from the patriots. Go in a straight line, don’t get sacked, don’t get holding calls, throw the ball 60 yards, make a freakish play.

You can blame that all you like

They’ve consistently got receivers wide open, even on short routes, they’ve caught the ball and they’ve trampled all over both our lines.

They’re not freakish. They’re better (so far).

by eltharion_doa on Nov 15, 2009 11:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

right

but seriously, the two of the long balls were him in single coverage against our safety

how does that happen

It wont’ go to the booth, and the Patriots wasted their final TO that they could’ve used to challenge.

… but think about it: Who wants to give Manning the ball back? If they get the first, the game’s over. He was going for the kill.

That was frighteningly smart.

to all u tahds who said the Colts sucked and it was over — you really had no faith in your team, I tip my hat to your team, they truly are a team to be reckoned with and overcame alot of shoddy football to beat the Pats in a tight game.

Good Luck with the rest of the season, maybe you can go 16-0.

Viking Fan here

Now I’ve seen a bunch of great games as a Viking fan (most notably the 49er game earlier this year) and the guts, will dtermination, and all that other shit shown by the Colts tonight made this one hell of a game.

As a Vikings fan mind you, this will go down in the top 2-3 games I’ve ever seen. I am so glad the you guys won, you guys are so deserving of all this.

I hope that my team can see your team in Miami. It will be an INSTANT CLASSIC NO DOUBT!

All right, folks, I need to say one thing:

People are calling Bellichick’s call on 4th down dumb. As I said above, I vehemently disagree: You never, ever willing cede initiative to an opponent, especially one as skilled as Manning. Again, what madman intentionally gives Manning the ball back for the win? Bellichick was no dumb, he was smart. Genius even. I mean that. If New England converts, they win. Plain and simple.

He went for the kill. That’s the sign of an incredible coach. I have so much more respect for him now because of that. Honestly.

Right. It was the right call, it just backfired.

Maybe he’ll question it, but stop and think a moment: If he had gotten it, would people be praising his genius?

He’s called “dumb” because it exploded on him, but I really, honestly don’t see how he could make the call any other way. Ice the damn game. Keep Peyton off the field, period. The risk is high, but so’s the payoff.

It was an amazing call. If it would’ve worked, I’d be cursing the genius. It didn’t, but I still should praise it. It was bold, decisive. Incredible.

Of course people would praise him, the media are morons

It would have still been a stupid call that just worked out. It was bold, yes. But his team lost pretty much because of it. As good as Manning was the drive before, it is DAMN TOUGH to go 70 yards in 2 minutes.

risk was greater than reward

punt and have Manning face 70+ yards to score rather than 31

by MadStork on Nov 15, 2009 11:52 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Disagree

You’re what, maybe a 60% chance to convert? Which means you’re going to lose 40% of games straight up with that tactic.

How often does a QB drive 70-80 yards for a TD inside 2 minutes? Doubt it’s 40% of the time.

You play the odds, unless you have no faith in your D.

by eltharion_doa on Nov 15, 2009 11:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

And no faith in your D is exactly the piece of information that informs the odds

Manning had already proven multiple times he could drive on that defense. Sure, he got stopped… but he also came through. Again, what crazy coach gives Manning the ball back with a minute-some to go?

Yes. That's why it's a risky call.

But “risky” =/= “dumb”. It accepts a high degree of risk in exchange for being in charge of your own destiny.

Sure, people will second guess. But again, if New England converts, who’s the dumb coach then?

As much as I hate to say it, New England has an amazing coach there. In my mind, that call showed it. It took guts.

I think

This should settle the Manning v Brady debate. Even when Manning had an off day, he still is clutchiness personified. The HoF QBs know greatness and #18 will soon join their pantheon.

"Lomu's the Brent Spar with attitude. A figure who inspires hero worship among even those who think a fly-half is a glass of beer consumed when 'er indoors is looking the other way." - Robert Philip Daily

It has little bearing

Brady went off – and got done by his coach. If he got the ball back again, who knows? One game is just part of the story, it doesn’t mean much.

I love Freeney

He’s a great interview, really understands the game.

LOL Sportscenter...
I know who won… but I wanna know, who’s better?

It’s funny because it’s an honest question. Even I admit New England was consistently stomping the Colts throughout the game. They just messed up at exactly the wrong moment.
