Yikes
Every team listed there scares me except for the Broncos. The playoffs this year are going to be more intense than ever.

other things Im noticing:
The Jags are going to be in the fucking playoff hunt all year, which is amazing given their lack of talent. They should have beat the Titans two weeks ago or whenever, and be in the top 6, so as much as i hate Del Rio, they are taking advantage of a soft schedule. I don’t like playing them, because, if nothing else, MJD kills us. I remember Polian saying after that draft that they wanted to grab Addai AND MJD. that would have been fucking awesome. That would have been beyond awesome. I think having MJD and Randy Moss on the same team would be the sports equivalent of being able to snap your fingers and get whatever kind of kinky act you want performed on you. He’s honest, he’s tough, he’s a leader, and he has a personality, which no one in sports seems to have anymore.

oh, sorry, im high on drugs
so i keep hitting post. gotta get the steelers and chargers out, i think i’d rather face the ravens or texans than either of them, although if our defense gets healthy and stays that way, I like how we match up against the steelers (as we showed last year). Houston kind of scares me, but I still think we’re OK against them. Again, I think a lot of our future success hangs on Hayden’s knee. Whould have been nice to get that kid from the Broncos that everyone wanted.
btw, is it just me, or do our CBs do better in man than in zone this year? In man, both seem to be able to shadow people, don’t get fooled by double moves, and are fast enough to stay with anyone. In zone, Lacey seems to get lost a lot. He sort of drifts out there. I’m guessing that after this off-season, we’re going to see a major shift in our defensive roster. I know that we are still running a lot of tampa 2, but with the d-line he’s been gifted, I think Coyer is dying to go to a more man-to-man blitzing type of defense where he is either freeing up Free and Mathis, or blitzers are coming free because they are so worried about free and mathis.
Also, we need a nickname for Mathis. His twitter name is 98degrees, but that is soooo fucking geeky for someone so awesome. Maybe we could just call him “Mr. Awesome”. or Hell beast. Or He who shall not be named. Or something. Lets get on that.

one team im not scared of:
the bengals. Don’t get me wrong, I think they are one of the 3 best teams in the AFC, but they seem to be a PERFECT matchup for the Colts. Above average defense with great corners, but hasn’t played an offense like the Colts. Offense with a now-average passing game and a killer running game that runs straight ahead. We do well with running games that run straight ahead (see: offs, play, 06, 20) And their FG kicker sucks balls. I would feel pretty good about that matchup.

Houston would agree
Schaub threw for 392 yards and 4 TD against the Bengals. I’m not worried about the Bengals either.

Okay, this is off the top of my head,
but how about “Robertron” or simply “Mr. Mathis”.

the jags will choke. you say they should have beaten the titans but they also should have lost to a couple of teams like houston and st. louis. look at the games both ways. they got lucky against st. louis. st. louis should have won in regulation and if they win the coin toss they win. if houston doesnt fumble in the end zone the jags lose that game too
and the jags always choke when they think they have games already won on (PAPER) before they play….SEE SEATTLE!
it will come down to balt. cincinnati, pitt and houston. I think houston is a way tougher team than the jags. hell the jets should have beat the jags and you wouldnt even be mentioning them right now

I'm willing to give the Jags some credit...
Your whole post is full of woulda, coulda, shoulda…but all it boils down to is the Jags are playing well. They are in the hunt…and YOU ARE MENTIONING THEM NOW!!

None of the AFC teams scare me...
However, 1st round bye is what terrifies me… In Peyton Manning’s career, they have NEVER won their 1st game when having a bye week for the playoffs..
1999 – Lost to Titans
2005 – Lost to Steelers
2007 – Lost to Chargers
That bothers me extremely….and I hope that Caldwell keeps that in mind by not sitting guys the last 3 weeks. My advice is to play them most of the games unless its a blowout/big lead or we are losing and our seeding is set.

Well, let’s consider the matchups as they stand now.
Wild Card weekend would be Chargers at Broncos, and Steelers at Patriots.
- If the Broncos win, they will DEFINITELY play at Cincinnati
- If the Chargers win, they will DEFINITELY play at Indianapolis
- If the Patriots win and the Chargers win, they would play at Cincinnati
- If the Patriots win and the Broncos win, they would play at Indianapolis
- If the Steelers win and the Chargers win, they would play at Indianapolis
- If the Steelers win and the Broncos win, they would play at Cincinnati
So, as of right now, our second round opponent would be the Chargers, Steelers, or Patriots.
Tell me that doesn’t just take the wind out of your sails.
At this point, we need a team like the Ravens, Texans, or Jags to step it up and keep one or more of these guys out of the playoffs.
Assuming Indy dispatches it’s first round opponent, we’re looking at the Bengals, Pats, or Steelers for the AFC Championship.

Even though Indy SHOULD have no problem beating them
just like the last two years, the only team that really really scares me is the Chargers.
Indy does seem to have solved the Steelers.
The Pats already gave us their best game, I don’t think they can play like that twice.
Brady’s passer rating (thru the 1st three quarters) and total yards were nearly career bests for him, and Moss can be inconsistent.

Chargers
The Chargers always match up well with us. I just dont see us losing to them three times in a row, not with out new defense, and certainly not when they have lost their Nose tackle for the year.
Also, the first year, it was BILLY VOLEK who shredded, SHREDDED our defense without Freeney and a hobbled Mathis. Last year, we couldn’t convert on a 3rd and 2, and then were completely unable to stop Sproles from that point forward. Remember, we had a lead at that point and gave it up.
I’m just saying that if it wasn’t the Chargers that beat us the past two years, it would have been someone else. We had some pretty serious flaws, and we would have lost to someone down the road even if we won those games against the Chargers.

Can Division rivals face each other in the Wild Card?
I was thinking that they couldn’t and that they would pair up with the winner of the other division winner. I am probably wrong.

Tough Road
All of these teams look tough, but its ridiculous to think that we would somehow have all the dominoes fall out of our way to give us an easy path to XLIV. Look, getting to the SuperBowl shouldn’t be easy, and winning it also shouldn’t be easy. We aren’t going to have a cupcake walk to the Lombardi this year.
If we’re going to win it all, we’ll need to go through some tough teams. I see lots of teams on here that are hard, but we’ve beat all of these teams before. And we can beat them again.
by clownsaw on Nov 17, 2009 9:30 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I don't want to see the Pats again
It’s hard to beat the same team twice, and let’s face it, Sunday was not an easy win.
How can you not love a team that does this?
by LovinBlue on Nov 17, 2009 10:27 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Neither do I
Here’s my scenario (I think the Broncos fold and the Chargers take that division)
1.) Colts
2.) Bengals
3.) Patriots
4.) Chargers
5.) Steelers
6.) Texans
I will become the biggest Texans fan in round one, but honestly, I could see any of these teams beating us, but I would pick us over anyone. Also, I would really look forward to a second-round Pats at Bengals game. The Bengals are not overwhelmingly good statistically, but they have swept the Ravens and Steelers, and gone to Lambeau and beaten the Pack. They are a legit team, and sprinkle in some snow, and maybe they can stun the Pats.
