Surprises in the running game

Does everyone else think the Colts have much to look forward to with the current running backs? If the offensive line improves its run blocking, this group has a lot of potential. I was a firm believer in the Colts drafting Donald Brown so the Indy could have a much needed tandem. I think he has does very well so far.

On a different note, Addai has really impressed me as of late. I forget which game, but I recall hearing that Polian was complaining about Addai dancing way too much. I was sick of it as well. However, it seems like he has started to hit his holes harder. I think criticism has brought out a much improved player.

Was anyone else really surprised by Simpson's running? I have not heard much talk about his runs against the Pats. The guy was running with some real good speed and toughness. While we have not seen enough to make conclusions, right now I'm sold on the decision of him over Hart and Ball.

Honestly,

The biggest problem for the Colts running game has been injuries both on the offensive line and to some extent, at the WR position. Both unproven players and no real team mindset can truly derail a team.

As the Colts have finally settled into a rhythm with both WR’s and the O-Line (that isnt rotating every week) the Colts are steadily getting better each week. The Colts running game averged 5 yards a carry against the Pats…and with only 18 carries was just short of 100 yards…

To be completely honest, the Colts should have run the ball more…

As for Simpson….

i agee on more running commitment

but on the pats game we where behind by too many points to run it more , we needed TDs and in a hurry, but i would love to see more commitment to the run in games to come.

i dont think we were ever behind too much to run draws

Simpson was a huge spark on two big drives Sunday night, running draws. Play action draws are just about the only ones that are working. Cris Collinsworth mentioned it, its been brought up before – when the Colts run play action, teams linebackers are STILL DROPPING. They either need to nix play action or force them to respect it. They respect the draw, since I think thats where we are getting most of our yards. If Joe runs like he did in the fourth quarter every play of every game (and hey, notice that they didnt run the fucking stretch all night?) I think they’ll get the play action pass back.
