Complete catches the ball in his hands, Great tech when it comes to running routes. Plays in side and out. and catchs as many deep balls and both the other wr combined.

Sterling Sharpe is a very smart man.

I’d like the opinion of you guys.

I’ve become a Colt fan since the emergence of the Patriots (imo the media rides Bradys d*^k way to effin much) because I’m sick and tired of hearing what a great team the Soviets errr I mean Patriots Have!

But why is it that with all the amazing catches Wayne makes ie. the TD against the Texans last year (i think) where he one-handed it and got all turned around in the endzone. that ESPN (Eastern Sports Promotional Network) never talks about him as the best?

Because he is a sure-fire HOF. Yet, all they talk about is Moss, Fitz, and Andre (Who are all very good excellent recievers).

I’d just like to hear what you guys say.

I agree.

All those guys, Johnson and Moss and Fitzgerald, are all better athletes. (With Moss being the best athlete in the NFL.) Yet Wayne is the best receiver and has the best hands in the NFL.

Its pretty simple

Reggie Wayne is the best production WR in the league. He does what he needs to do and thats it. Reels in amazing catches, moves the sticks and runs routs.

He’s not the best WR in the league when it comes to athleticism or potential. The difference between Reggie and everyone else is he lives up to said potential. With a little help from Peyton.

I've noticed alot of people talking about athleticism being a negative for Reggie

but doesn’t his awareness and intellegence on this field counterbalance that?

Peyton Manning makes it Wayne on them hoes!!!!

Reggie's a complete receiver

Just like Sterling said. He can play inside and out, runs better routes than Moss and Andre, and can catch the deep ball just as well as them. No one mentioned Reggie’s performance in week 3 against the Cardinals. Dude put on a show with his one-handed touchdown catch and few other amazing grabs or him being the only constant in the game this past Sunday. He was doubled-teams and he still had 10 catches, 100+ receiving yards, and 2 TDs. I don’t know if it’s because of his size or the fact that he isn’t as fast as Marvin was in his prime, but when you need a big play, you can count of Reggie more than Moss or A. Johnson.

P.S.
Sterling was a small receiver, so that’s probably why he has Reggie’s back, too.

Sterling Sharpe is correct.

That’s a period.

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Man, I need a life...

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: I turn 19 on Tuesday, November 17. I accept all gifts. If any of you can figure out a way for me not to have a test Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday on the week of my birthday, that would be the best present ever.

Yanno

I’m not one who usually makes a decision based on this…..

But other than Hines Ward, who for most teams would be a second option WR, not a first option…..Wayne is the only ELITE WR in the league that has a ring…

Moss/Owens have both played in the same total of SB’s that Wayne has…..and neither of them won a ring…

I dont like making any comments like this generally, but since everyone is so quick to point out stuff like this…. I just had to beat them to the punch…

Owens – 1 NFC Championship game, 1 SB appearance = zero rings
Moss – 1 NFC Champ/1 AFC Champ game, 1 SB appearance = zero rings
Wayne – 2 AFC Championship games, 1 SB appearance = 1 ring

Ironically, for all the bashing of Peyton Manning as a choker in the playoffs, Randy Moss is an even bigger choke artist.. in the 3 biggest games of his career (both championship games and the SB)

151 yards, 2 TD’s, and a whopping 12 catches….is all Randy Moss has to show for himself in the most important 3 games of his career…

Meanwhile….

Larry Fitzgerald – SB 42 – 7 catches, 2 TD’s, 127 yards
Terrell Owens – SB 39 – 9 catches, 122 yards

So who would you rather have on your team come crunch time? It sure wouldn’t be Randy Moss. That much I can tell you for a fact…

by DevilsReject on Nov 19, 2009 12:21 AM EST reply actions

Don't like this argument

Moss played 3 big games and had 2 TD’s and 150 yards, that’s not bad really.. He just didn’t have a big game. And with all the attention he attracts, he still changes the game.
If you want to talk about a big-time receiver not producing in the post-season, go take a look at Marvin Harrison’s numbers..

The Super bowl rings talk is all a waste, too, because teams win them. Owens and Fitz both had very good Super Bowl games, as you outlined, but have no rings. What kind of argument is that? Hell, Reggie only had 2 catches for 61 yards and a TD. Does that mean he’s better because his team won, even though he had inferior statistics?

by yellowsnow on Nov 19, 2009 7:53 AM EST up reply actions

You actually

made my point for me….

Those other guys, if you took them out of the lineup for their team, would have had a huge impact on their teams performance.

Meanwhile, Randy Moss practically disappeared in 2 of the big games he’s ever played in…

5 catches for 62 yards and 1 TD in the SB vs the Giants
1 catch for 14 yards in the AFC title game vs. the Chargers…

Seriously, for all the talk that Moss garners for being the league’s best…the guy has zero post season numbers to ever back it up…

The difference with Harrison vs. Owens/Moss is that Harrison was never a dominant WR. He didn’t have the physical presence that these two have. However, it generally took 2 guys covering Harrison every game simply because of his speed and precise routes.

You say Moss changes the game, yet the guy is a mere after thought in the post season…

by DevilsReject on Nov 19, 2009 9:26 AM EST up reply actions

Exactly right, yellowsnow.

Moss changes the game. Freeney had no sacks last game because hr had extra attention, but it benefited the team that he commanded that attention. Clark was given extra coverage and that hurt his stats, but it freed up someone else. Moss will be double teamed and more by good teams so that he won’t burn them, and that attention makes him a big factor still, regardless of the stats.

Amen to your point that teams win rings, not players. We who are Manning fans should hate that kind of talk more than anyone else.

by coltsfanawalt on Nov 19, 2009 10:14 AM EST up reply actions

I agree with the rings comment

The point behind the rings comment by me at all was to illustrate that for all of Moss’s supposed dominance, he disappears when its crunch time. Lesser gifted players have put up better stats against as good competition.

For all the talk about great Moss is, where is he when it comes down to it? In crunch time in most of his biggest games he’s a virtual no show.

Of all the greatest WR’s over the last 20 years, I bet you that Moss is the one who disappears the most in a critical game comparison. Do you really think that Montana would have gone away from a guy like Moss on 3rd or 4th down? Marino? Elway?

Seriously, Moss had a total of 1 catch in the 4th quarter….and that occured virtually at like 14:30 of the quarter…..they never once made a single completion to him again….and I think they only targeted Moss like twice after that throw even..

All Right All Right All Right

The resident Viking Fan needs to step in here to settle this once and for all.

I watched Randy Moss for 7 years, to say that he is not clutch is quite frankly assanine, Did you watch the playoff game against the Packers in 2004? Because he made one HELL Of A TD catch (The one where he mooned the fans) to ice the game.

There is also a game against the Chiefs that was probably in 2003 where he was rocking the afro, and he scored a touchdown that put the game out of reach.

Did you happen to watch the game against the Cowgirls on Thanksgiving in ’98?
Well he went off, he single-handedly destroyed the Cowgirls on NATIONAL TV.

Also, when he made it to the NFC Conference Championship game he was a ROOKIE. You don’t expect a ROOKIE to be the star of the second most important game of the year.

Did you also know that the two teams that Moss (when he got that far into the playoffs) was on scored the most points ever? That means that the offense had so many weapons that he didnt have to take the bulk of the load. Reggie is the only playmaker for Manning.

One more thing, Who was the guy oppisite of him?? OK then, the second greatest reciever of all time. Who is oppisite Wayne right now? OK then Austin Collie

Now I still believe that Wayne is the best reciever in the game, but to say that Randy Moss isnt clutch is just stupid.

If anything keeps Wayne out of the hall

it’s that he was a late bloomer and didn’t produce much his first couple seasons.

by slash196 on Nov 19, 2009 7:39 AM EST reply actions

4th quater you need to make a play

Who did Brady go to? Not randy moss
Who did Manning go to? REGGIE WAYNE. Who manning says was the one that called the play!

by ColtsUK on Nov 19, 2009 9:11 AM EST reply actions

Now Shannon Sharpe

is the douche…..just sayin

As long as we have Peyton we will always have a chance to win.

by skywalker on Nov 19, 2009 5:26 PM EST reply actions

I don’t know how you can argue with this statement. Reggie Wayne has transformed himself into the best receiver in the game. He is allowed to do his think with the help of Clark, Collie and Garcon and he would be having an even better season if AG were playing. The guys plays hard on every down, runs great routes, and has great hands.
