Matt Stover!
First, I'd like to say he's great. He's off to a 6-6 FG start, and 13-13 Extra Points.
Matt Stover however, had a historical Career at Baltimore, as he is their Franchise leader in points with over 1400 points! He is also 5th all time in scoring, which is a great point to be for a kicker.
So I'm just curious about what your opinion is. I Do NOT believe in guys "Throwing" a game when playing their old team, rather i think it makes them want to win more! But i still have my doubts, so ill ask you guys what you think.
I'll put this in a situation form question.
Ok. Were down 2 points. 4th and 2 or 3. Were at the 35. There are about 40 seconds to go and we have a timeout to go. Would you guys want to kick it? Matt is great, and i believe he can, but will it be too much? He played 12 years there, and has to go back and hit an emotional game winner against the pressure of his HOME crowd? If its 45 or under i'd kick. But with wind, pressure, old team, and 45+ yards, if its 4th and 1 or 2 i'd go for it.
One more thing. Now that i got out of the way, I would say that i actually would probably kick, only because were down. So also answer this question, same situation, but were tied. Baltimore has a shaky offense, so if were tied, with a 52 yard field goal and 40 secs, do we go for it?

I'd do whatever Peyton says we should do.

Stover is a professional
and I trust him to do the right thing – i.e., attempt to make the FG for the team that’s paying him
How can you not love a team that does this?

That thought is ridiculous
Stover is a deeply religious and made of great character and is the consummate pro. The thought that he would throw a game is silly, and that would mean any guy with a history of playing for the opponent would do the same. Hmmm,….who was your kicker before Stover and where did he play before coming to you….? Duh.
As a Ravens fan, we have been saying all week we’d prefer to get blown out than to have Stover kick the game winner at the final moments. However the best way to get rid of the ghost of him would be for him to miss one at the buzzer that would have won the game.

Did anyone...?
Actually READ my post. I said i don’t think we will throw it. Never said it. I just said will the pressure be too much? Now reply please, after actually knowing what i said.
Like i said, i DO NOT believe in people throwing games against their teams, rather makes them play HARDER! READ THE FRIGGIN’ POST!!

guilty as charged
I didn’t read the whole thing carefully. In response to the question of too much pressure, I believe Stover probably has as much ice in his veins as Vinatieri and I would attempt the FG.

ive thought about it too
For awhile i feared that Vinatieri would miss a game winning field goal against the pats only to rip off his jersey revealing an old patriots jersey. This, of course, hasn’t happened to date. My fears have lessened and i no longer fear a Vinatieri betrayal and i think because of that i am not too worried about a Stover betrayal.
although if it did happen it would certainly be entertaining, even with the loss.

Just felt like someone needed to say…
IT’S MATT STOOOOOOOOOVER!
That video cracks me up every time I see it. The Ravens were dumb for letting him go. You keep veteran, playoff tested kickers until their legs literally fall off. Then you replace their legs with bionic ones!
Manning makes it Wayne on 'dem hoes! Wayne on 'dem hoes! Wayne on 'dem hoes!
