Why The Indianapolis Colts need an alternative jersey.
Playing the spectacular new Madden NFL 10, I realized that we are one of the only teams without alternative jerseys. Among some teams closet full of alternates are throwbacks that we just can't wear for obvious reasons. However, it seems that some teams get excited debuting their alternates, not to mention, it gives fans a new look. My opinion is along with the great new line of colts black (and blue/white) gear, should come a super awesome new black jersey, that would be intimidating, new, exciting, and totally awesome. I mean, as nice as our jerseys are (plain, simple, blue) mixing it up a little bit couldn't hurt, and what better time than next year and a new decade. Our alternatives in madden next year should be boss black baby. Thoughts? Also, I almost got puked on by a ravens fan at M&T sunday, I would have kicked his a**!!!

The Colts
Uniforms are great looking, but they are very traditional. We wear all whites on the road, and we wear blue jersey’s at home with white pants.
I would love to see the Colts don black jerseys with blue lettering or perhaps black pants and their normal jerseys.
Not something that is done every game, but perhaps you designate a game for the fans at home…and perhaps try to do a blackout jersey game..
no thanks
Leave the black to the raiders. Although I would like to see the blue helmets again.

100% agreed
tried to type a long diatribe against changing a classic, but hitting a wrong key on my tiny laptop keyboard erased it twice. f-it.
classic, pure, simple, perfect. no change needed.
If you have ugly shit like flying Elvis, then yes, throwbacks are a GREAT idea. If your team sucks like the Jags, then adding glitter is a desperate ploy like a 50 year-old hooker trying to spruce things up. Don’t mess with the classics.

My thoughts exactly.
"You can't defend the perfect throw, what can I say?" Peyton quoting Marino

Yep.
Haven’t needed any change over the years because they rock thankyouverymuch.

I have noticed in the last two games
that some jerseys look a little weird.
I remember against the Patsies, it was Mathis’ and Session’s jerseys. Now, against the Ravens, it was Addai’s. I don’t know if anybody noticed this but I found it funny.

Seems like they were different
Hope this helps you:

Against BAL:
Just compare the “29” and the stripes on the shoulders. It was clearer with the Name on the back, but couldnt find any pictures.

Same thing happened with Mathis and Session against NE. Numbers and letter a little off or something.

Me too
I understand that a few years ago, they “redesigned” the tailoring of the jersey to conform to a more modern style, but the “artistic” design was not changed. I think I know what you’re talking about – sometimes when guys wear the jersey, it hang differently causing it to appear different. This is my theory for the different look.

thank you!
I thought I was the only one who noticed.
I thought I saw the same thing with Addai’s jersey against Baltimore.
You mean funny, like a clown?
Did their jerseys amuse you, is that what you mean “weird”…? You like to laugh at them, is that it? (I can’t remember the whole monologue, but you get the idea)

we could really
make Baltimore mad and do the throwback jerseys next time they come to us.
We're out there for 60 minutes. In that 60 minutes you can be gods or you can be smucks. And I want to be a god. How bout you?

Never
Teams who have an inferior product release stupid alternates to drum up merchandising money and fan interest. This team has no need for either.
Plus black is cliche and stupid. Everyone adds black. The whole damn NHL went on a black revolution and it got really boring.
The Colts don’t need to/can’t do throwbacks anyway – the change in 04 was to the throwbacks – black shoes, grey facemask, slightly darker blue. And as long as the current management team is there, this will not be changed.
The Black is nice regardless
I have that black hat and sweatshirt, and it is nice, and the colts would look pretty intimidating in black once or twice a year.
I was bored so I decided to see what a possible Black alternate jersey might look like. I kept the basic Colts design and added a few new touches here and there. Let me know what you think:

all black with a white helmet?
Yuck. Pants should be white, silver, or helmet color universally. All the monochrome looks are awful.
You have to admit, Seattle's monochrome blue
looks a LOT better than that electric lime green thing they wore this year.
That was almost as painful as the Denver throwbacks—vomit inducing at high speeds.
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.
yeah
and technically it meets the guidelines since it matches the helmet. It’s still awful though. They need to go back to the silver.
enough teams with silver and blue
Personally, the Seahawks looked a lot like the Cowboys back then. Besides the Cowboys, its the Lions and then the Panthers.

kind of...
those are all different shades of blue (plus Carolina primarily wears black, even though blue looks better).
I’ll be honest: the more I look at the jersey study, the less I like it. There’s a reason the Colts jerseys have been fundamentally unchanged for their entire history. You’d really have to change everything; the jersey, pants, shoes, helmet, the works. It’s probably too much trouble for something you’d wear once or twice a year.
An all-Speed Blue uniform might be interesting, ala the Texans’ Battle Reds or the Broncos/Bears Oranges, or Seattle’s all-blue’s.

Helmets should have black and white....
Zebra stripes with the blue shoe outlined in white. I like your concept, but I think the white outlines around the numbers and letters should be wider for a better appearence. Also, does anybody remember the blue pants? I think Ron Meyer was the coach that year, they looked awful!!

am i the only one who liked the blue pants with white jerseys?
i would post a picture but I don’t know how.

GREEN AND SILVER BALTIMORE COLTS THROWBACKS
I’ve wanted those for a while now.

I usually love black alternates (and think the Ravens should switch to the black full-time)
but as a poster said above, the Colts black would look alot like the Lions black.
The Colts have a classic look, I wouldn’t change color scheme. How about a blue on blue?
EVH+DLR=BFFr........ God I Hope So!!
No black jerseys
Cheesy. No alternate except for the beautiful green and silver throwbacks.

what year is the green and silver throwbacks from?
Can’t find this anywhere….

different franchise
That was the Miami Seahawks team that moved; the current incarnation was the Boston Yanks, then New York Yanks, then Dallas Texans. Though they were also dissolved. I’m not sure how that all worked, or how the Texans also became the Chiefs, etc. But they ended up in Baltimore in 53… the green seems to have been a brief 1951 thing.
Thanks. I can live without it.
I thought the Chiefs throwback helmets were pretty cool—with the outline of Texas and a tiny star all in red and white.
Never really liked the throwbacks until this season with KC, Buff, NE, MIA doing it. Maybe because ours are so timeless.
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.
Meh
I like the overwhelming unity of BLUE and MORE BLUE. Seeing the entire stadium decked out in BLUE is a source of great pride. Besides, as many have pointed out, throwbacks and alternates are mostly just a marketing trick to sell more team swag. The Colts don’t need tricks to be awesome.
"The best defensive player is the sideline." - Trevor Pryce, on how to stop Peyton Manning
I don't care about alternate jerseys.
What they have now is classic and fine. I’m okay to stick with it. However if they do get alternates, I won’t care either.
The only things I care about is that they keep winning, and that they don’t go to something like the Arizona Cardinals red long johns.
Maybe, like Arizona, they can make the horseshoe look more "menacing"
probably too difficult. I mean horseshoes are pretty intimidating on their own without angry eyes.
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.
How do you make a horseshoe menacing?

put it on the business end of a horse's hoof
coming down at you from above to stomp your ass?
How can you not love a team that does this?

Dayton Triangles
The Colts can actually trace their lineage back to the 1913 Dayton Triangles – a basketball-turned-football team from St. Mary’s college.
Too often alternate jerseys turn out too look stupid
If they could change it and make it look good it would be awesome. The Denver Broncos logo is a good example and so is the Eagles logo. But it’s not like you can make a horseshoe look intimidating new and exciting. Yes, you could make a logo of an intimidating Colt for the logo. But then you get away from the horseshoe. And as a Colts fan, I really don’t want to see them get rid of the horseshoe. That logo totally symbolizes the Colts.
Then you look at the stupid uniforms that the Seattle Seahawks and San Diego Chargers have come up with over the years and I start to think. It’s not the best idea to change the jerseys.
To me, the look of the Colts is sort of like Coca-Cola. You don’t change the design of the Coca-Cola bottle or the formula unless you really want to upset the people who like it. Some things are better left unchanged. And I think the fact that the Colts have seen little change to their uniform has helped endear them to fans across the globe.
I mean, look at the teams with the biggest fan followings. They tend to be teams like the Steelers, Cowboys, and Packers. Do they hardly ever change their jerseys or logos? No. And for the most part, they are really simple logos and jerseys just like the Colts jerseys are.

"To me, the look of the Colts is sort of like Coca-Cola"
So what you are saying is make a new awful jersey and logo and then re-release the current jerseys as Colts Classic? Kind of like what the Niners did.
"Brett Favre was a man who thought he was retired, but he knew it wouldn't last."
blue pants
The only alternate I would be in favor of is the white jerseys with the blue pants that we wore back in 95. I thought those were pretty cool looking
Blue Pants
I am all for that, I liked those uniforms, I dont know why they only lasted for 1 year…Better yet, how about Blue Pants with the Blue Jersey! Absolutly no black Colts uniform, it would be stupid!
