MVP: #4 for #4? Don't Count out #18!
NFL MVP WATCH:
Why is Brett Favre now number one on everyone's MVP watch list... because he's forty?
He has the best running back in the league and defenses play the run!!!
Just because Brett Farve throws up a couple TDs against the lions and sehawks, suddenly people forget Mannings four TD game against the patriots!!!
I LOVE #4 , but he does not deserve his fourth MVP this year. #18 does. New coach, new receivers, still stellar play.
Thoughts?

Much more than any other year I've seen Favre play
he’s been the consummate “game manager.” Frankly, he’s on a well-balanced team and seems to have finally accepted the advice to not be as much of a gunslinger as he has in the past. Perhaps it’s his hot desire to beat Green Bay, perhaps he finally wisened up to the fact that he’s 40. But I don’t even think he’s the most valuable player in his own locker room.
How can you not love a team that does this?
Exactly
Favre’s a game manager now, if the run game is kicking ass, he just has to hand it off; if it’s cold, he throws short passes to a stud like Percy Harvin. Plus the Viqueens’ defense is pretty good, so he doesn’t have to worry about throwing it everywhere.

Actually
He’s doing more. He has been good deep too. It’s just not super often and it’s only when it’s a good decision.
Any QB in the league would look pretty good on that team (Jackson included) but he has certainly stepped up his play. Good thing the Jets bought his lie, released him, and got absolutely nothing in return from the Vikings for him.
I hate the guy, and don’t think he’s worthy of the MVP given the talent around him, but he’s having a REALLY good year. It’s as if they turned off the part of him that made bad decisions. All the rest is obviously still good.
I agree with WD above but I'll go a little farther
Team success and stats. Favre has both. Add in the 40 year old thing and even I am starting to tolerate the vacillating media whore. Not only is it a statistics and team success story, but it’s a bit of a redemption story after last year’s injuries (which nobody really knew about at the time) when we all thought he was finally through. (and god riddance, many of us said.) I think the voters will like that story. (Even the ones who said good riddance. Maybe especially those ones, who are forced to admit they were wrong.) Nobody EVER said “Manning is through” (thank God) so Favre’s return from the brink gives him an edge.
The only way this guy leaves the game is when Jerry Rice pries his cold, dead fingers from a football. He’ll take a few snaps for the Colts about five years after 18 retires. I hate him already, but he’s having a very visible, monster year. He’s having Warner’s 2008 season, except his team is 9-1 instead of 6-4, which makes a lot of difference.
18 needs stats like he had in October (three more 100 QB rating games), maybe 5,000 yards (a 16-0 reg season helps), and Favre to throw about 10 INTs (maybe a game-loser?) to move into the lead. I know it’s vapid and cheesy, but these voters have important stuff like a Starbucks order to get right—they can’t be expected to think too much and analyze a team’s relative strengths and weaknesses with and without the candidate, not can they ever agree on what valuable really means.
If it was called the best player in football, 18 probably has a couple more already. I agree with the CW that it’s Favre’s to lose at this point. A lot of football left, however. Who knows, maybe VY gets it! Waah, I kill me. Seriously, though, at this point last year, we were 6-4 and Manning was probably a dark horse candidate.
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.
I'm still holding out hope
that the gunslinging mentality will return. It’s who he is, he can’t deny it forever.

Imagine how good Peyton would be if there was that much single coverage on his receivers all the time because of AP....
(Drool………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….)
But that would be unfair to the rest of the NFL.

Peyton should be in the lead by a lot
But ESPN is pushing Favre big time.
"Brett Favre was a man who thought he was retired, but he knew it wouldn't last."
I've hardly seen Favre top of anyone's list
Outside of ESPF. Talk about your overreactions.
Favre’s throwing it downfield just as much as anyone else, and probably much more than Brees or Schaub, to pick two QBs out of the air. Rice, Berrian and Harvin are all genuine deep threats and the Vikings are a “pound it until the defense clocks run, then sling it” offense.
I’d still have Manning as my MVP, partially because I’m a homer, partially because I hate Brett Favre (or more accurately, Favre hype) but mostly because I think he’s more important to the Colts than Favre is to the Vikings, but Favre is a clear second to me, and right behind Manning. He’s having an outstanding year – not making any mistakes, throwing the ball as well as I can remember him and making a rookie, a washed up Bears reject and some guy nobody had ever heard of into genuine receiving threats.
Peyton has done more with less.
Plus Peyton has something Favre will NEVER have, Team Loyalty.

Adrian Peterson.

Farve doesn't have Reggie Wayne or Dallas Clark

You are right.
But could you imagine if Peyton had Peterson to hand off to?

Sure can
“Adrian Peterson sucks! He’s only averaging 3.9 yards per carry! And he can’t block! And he keeps fumbling! We should have drafted a guy who can block, keep control of the ball and works better in the passing game! Colts running games SUCKS!”

Actually
I always thought Manning was a no brainer for MVP this year. But then I looked at the stats. He has thrown 9 picks, a shade under one a game. Favre? He’s thrown ONE THIRD of that. Three Interceptions. Not to mention he has one more touchdown than manning. And he’s throwing deep, too. Sidney Rice leads the league in 30+ yard catches. Favre is on pace to pass for nearly 4000 yards, not as good as manning, but you don’t get to 4000 without going deep every now and then.
As far as QB rating goes, Manning might be having a fantastic year, he’s over 100. The problem? So are all of the other MVP candidates, and guess who leads the league in that stat? Favre. And if the Titans can run the table, or even get to 9-7, Chris Johnson is going to be hard to argue with. I hate him, don’t get me wrong. I absolutely hope he injures his left leg and LenDale White takes over. But realistically, this guy is going to break 2000 yards rushing. Don’t focus on 16-0, let’s get the first seed, and hope that the offense can get into a rhythm soon.

You really need to get away from just looking at stats
and look at what someone has done for their team. Favre is basically a game manager now with a top 3 runningback and with a good 1st round wide receiver. Peyton has been working with rookie and a second year player receivers who have done a very good job so far. Also a o-line that’s still having problems at run blocking. What I’m saying is that Peyton has done more with less than Favre and has his team at 10-0.
Peyton Manning makes it Wayne on them hoes!!!!
I believe ESPN is the only one calling for #4 to get the MVP
On CBS NFL pregame show yesterday, JB asked two of the guys the same question and had the audience to vote on this cell phone their choice. Coach Cowher and Boomer were asked who was the league MVP among Brees, Peyton, Favre and some one (maybe Cedric Benson). Cowher said that it’s clear that Peyton is the MVP, while Boomer asked where were Brady and Peterson’s name (rolls eyes) and then gloated about having a vote and would use that vote on Favre. The people’s choice: #18 with almost 50% of the vote.
