2010 NFL Draft: Colts Rd.1 Pt.2

How often do the colts run a 2 tightend system? Never. Back when they had Ben Utech they would run a 2 tight end set all of the time but now because they don't have an accomplished tightend they need to run out of the spread formation. This year I predict the Colts go after Jermaine Gresham. He is a 6-6 262 lbs. tight end frm Oklahoma. Now here is what I think of him:

Posotives: Gresham runs very crisp routes and is not afraid to run down the middle of the field and get hit by a LB. He has great speed for someone his size and if he finds a seam he has enough speed to outrun the LBs and even slow safteys. He is very stong and can jump very high to get jump balls giving him another hieght advantage against small LBs or Safties. He has very soft hands and is sometimes compared to Dallas Clark for his catching ability. Breaks ALOT of tackles.

Negatives: He missed the entire senior season due to a knee injury. Not great when he is in a 3-point stance (one hand on the ground). Not terribly physical and can get beat at the line.

Overall: Great hands, jumping ability and hieght make him a perfect redzone target for Peyton Manning. Runs great routes and breaks tackles. Not great when on the line but gets the job done. Questions about wether he can return to normal form after his season-ending knee injury. He would be a perfect person for the colts.

Please leave me a message on what you think.

Did you watch the game last week?

when Clark and Santi are both on the field at the same time, that adds up to two tight ends.

I actually really like this pick...

…and think Gresham’s a talented guy. I just wonder if the pick might be better spent on a comparable talent OLine guy, if such exists when the Colts pick.

Still want the same...

…pick as I did last year, OL. Bulaga FTW!

1.) We don't need a tight end, we have plenty and they do serviceably

2.) I don’t think Gresham will fall that far.
3.) I know we don’t go flashy in the first round, but I would LOVE to go after an electric return man. Any of the guys from Florida (James, Rainey, Demps, Moody), Holliday from LSU, or even Spiller from Clemson.

I haven’t really done my research so some maybe most of them are not even seniors and won’t be declaring this year and Spiller may not fall that far. But there are numerous guys out there that are electric returners and could see a few plays in a 4-5 receiver spread.

Imagine if Peyton could get the ball at the 40 every time?

What about

Perrish Cox from Oklahoma State? He’s as good a return man as there is.

Yeah

I’m a huge fan of Perrish Cox. He would be a nice 2nd or 3rd rounder, and he can play corner. Javier Arenas would be great too.

Agree on both counts...

Arenas is a top flight returner but Cox would add depth at CB as well. I would expect him to supplant Lacey as the nickle back. I have not been impressed with Lacey over the last couple of games. Cox would be great if we could pick him up in the 3rd.

You Right

we dont need one but it would be nice to have one. Alot of people think his injury will let him fall to the 2nd round. Plus y get a return guy early wen u can get a good one late in the draft ond the return guy would ONLY play on returns beacause we have enough WR or CBs. Think about that.

Hell no on Gresham

We’ve got 4 tight ends. We don’t need one coming off of a big injury.

We Have

4 TEs but 3 of them suck. Thats y we constantly run out of the spread formation.

TE?

No way. Also, if the Colts draft a return (specialty) guy with their first pick, the Polian has gone senile. Offensive line first, and then MAYBE a corner/return guy with cover skills.

OL or safety!

Santi and Robinson are serviceable. I’d love a new LT. Then we can go back to plugging in CJ where ever we need help.

by hoosierdore on Nov 29, 2009 6:19 PM EST reply actions

You'd love a new LT?

People talk about the draft like they talk about Christmas. And you know, it probably is my favorite time of the year, especially being a Colts fan – scratching your head and saying, “Who?” is just part of the fun when you watch Polian work his magic.

I’d like to see Russell Okung gift wrapped and placed underneath the Colts Christmas tree.

I would love to get Okung

But we’d have to give up a shiny penny to get up in the draft to where he’s going to go.

by Sanders_fan89 on Nov 29, 2009 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I was being optimistic.

We would need some serious help from Santa AND baby Jesus for that to happen.

Dont pick a return guy #1?

What if Percy Harvin had been there when the Colts got on the clock in last year’s draft? Anybody think the Colts would have passed on him? I think an OT or a return guy are our top priorities, with the #1 pick whichever position has the highest overall draft ranking.

by MadStork on Nov 29, 2009 10:07 PM EST reply actions

Ryan Diem

We need to find a replacement for the subject individual in the first round. Here are a few prospects:

Adam Ulatoski – Texas (6’8 – 310)
Ben Ossai – Washington (6’6 – 330)
Ciron Black – LSU (6’5 – 315)

Anthony Davis of Rutgers will not be availiable when the Colts pick however I would be happy with any of the above individuals if they are available.

I dont know if I would take a tight end at any round this year. We need Kick Returner and RT and a litle depth at Safety would be nice too. Also, if Toby Gerhardt is availiable…I want him…doubt it would happen, but it would be cool!

by GuruBlue on Nov 30, 2009 11:03 AM EST reply actions

Or...

If there is a good left tackle around, we could always move CJ over to the right side.
