Week Twelve: Night Game Open Thread

The Dennis Dixon led Steelers take on the Ravens with wildcard positioning at stake.

Late game results

  • Chargers 43, Chiefs 14
  • Niners 20, Jags 3  (Jags got less than a point per 100 yards of offense gained)
  • Titans 20, Cardinals 17 (Game winning TD pass from Young to Britt as time expired, kinda looked like a QB today)
  • Vikings 36, Bears 10 (Farve farved the favre out of those favring Farves from Farvecago)

So I think I know what the difference between Dungy and Caldwell.

Halftime adjustments.

When the defense would struggle in the Dungy regime as they were in the first half today Dungy would simplify the defense, asking them to do less so they can react faster. That means predictable Cover-2 defenses and offenses running all over us.

But for the 5th game in a row Caldwell has made the necessary adjustments at halftime to come back from a deficit and play dominate defense to win the game. What those adjustments are, well I’m not really sure yet lol.

by MarkFive05 on Nov 29, 2009 7:46 PM EST reply actions

how about 4th down aggressiveness

we can talk about the play calls later, but Jimbo seems to go for the nuts.

Relating to Dungy, just did a nono on SNF, imo. “Texans lost the game more than the Colts won it.” If he’s not given away the family secrets, he’s trying too hard to distance himself from loving them.

yes, the correct call is to go for it (imo)

but the incorrect call, as I said during the game, (again, imo), is to run 180 times farther sideways than you need to go forward to get the first. I voted Session the game ball winner post game, but after digesting things (and dinner), its clearly Joe. He saved the game with that 4th down conversion.

Don Banks:

Call the Colts fortunate if you wish, but it’s their refusal to panic, no matter how dire the situation, that has led to winning a league-record five consecutive games despite trailing in the fourth quarter. I’m not sure what it would take to really bury Indy these days, but you could tell being down 17 points in the second quarter at Houston wasn’t going to fluster Peyton Manning and Co.

Other quotes too

From NFL.com

" When the Colts stopped the Patriots on the controversial fourth-and-two call that momentarily blemished Belichick’s genius, little was mentioned about Indianapolis’ defense actually making a good play. Last weekend, when the Colts stoned Baltimore from the end zone on three rushing attempts from the one, the Ravens’ play calling/offensive line/unaggressive running by Willis McGahee were cited.

From what I saw, it looked like the Colts’ defensive front had something to do with making life tough for the Ravens.

What’s interesting is that last season Indianapolis seemingly couldn’t make either of those two plays without safety Bob Sanders on the field. The defensive interior was a sieve that needed constant help from the back end. Now, the Colts are making tough stops with regularity. Ends Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney deservedly get the most attention, but tackles Daniel Muir and Antonio Johnson, and linebackers Gary Brackett and Clint Sessions have been stout.

Indianapolis isn’t going to conjure images of the Steel Curtain, but the toughness of the defensive front — and its timely plays — make this a different team than it’s been."

I don’t know what to make of this rare love the Colts are getting. Damn media!

"Lomu's the Brent Spar with attitude. A figure who inspires hero worship among even those who think a fly-half is a glass of beer consumed when 'er indoors is looking the other way." - Robert Philip Daily

The Colts now are alone in 2nd for most consecutive 10+ win seasons and halfway to the NFL record held by the 83-98 Niners.

The Colts have extended their playoff streak to 8 seasons, longest active streak in the league, and one away from the NFL record.

Any 1 thinks

that the Colts team looks like they want to win em all, i mean ,today’s game was not critical but the team played with lots of hunger to stay undefeated , what do you guys think? is the 16-0 or the thought of beating the 21 NE record whats fueling this team stands? i think the colts want something more than the SB, im thinking the NE record looks more important than the 16-0

We are almost to 600 comments on a Sunday night game that doesn’t even involve the Colts are impact their playoff seeding?

I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation

Does anyone know where I can find some detailed stats for the game today

I want to see how many yards the Texans rushed for in the 2nd half. The chump I know is saying that the Colts run d is still porous which isn’t true (yes I know the d gave up 112 on the ground, but did shut it down in the 2nd half, right) and that CJ will run over them week, Um, no (week 5).

Peyton Manning makes it Wayne on them hoes!!!!

Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.

It's shocking how much can slip your perception
