If you needed any more proof on Manning being the greatest quarterback of the decade
This analysis breaks down how many wins an offense would have if paired with average defense and special teams.
The idea is that if you combine Manning and the offense with an average defense every year, how many wins would he get.
The difference between Indianapolis and the rest of the league is staggering. A Manning-led teams combines for 36.2 "extra" wins or about 4 extra wins per season that is, a 12-4 record on average. No one comes even close to this figure. Denver in second place has 15.8 extra wins during the period - equivalent of a 10-6 record on average.
Brady is good, but nowhere near Peytons level. If Tom Brady would have had average defenses during the last 9 years, NE would on average compile a 9-7 record.
Interestingly, Peytons best season is 2006 and not 2004.

that's not that suprising to me
As explosive as the 2004 offense was, the 2006 offense was the best we’ve ever had imo. In 2004 we could depend on our pass rush when we got a lead. In 2006, the offense had to score a lot of points and be extremely efficient b/c the defense was getting gashed by the opponents running game which meant fewer possesions for the offense. Thus they had to make the most of every possesion b/c there was no guarantee that they’d see the ball again anytime soon. The 2004 offense was the most prolific yet the 2006 offense did the most with what it was given, scoring on 55.6% of their drives. That’s really good.

Check out the WP graph for the 2006 AFC Championship Game
It’s fun to look at now, but it would have been horrible to see during the game.
The SB graph is interesting too. We were at 31% after the opening KO return and steadily built up through the game.
