Saints = Scary?

I have always been a true blue Colt's fan.  But after watching Monday Night Football lastnight the Saint's look SCARY!  They remind me of the Colt's offense when it comes to how many tools they have at their disposal.  Right now in the NFC the Vikings and the Saints look like the one's to beat.  Which team looks like the contender to beat?   Do you think our defense has the ability to stop them?

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

The Saints aren't all that scary actually

Im not denyijng that they are a great team, howver, the Colts match up very well against them. The Saints strength on offense is throwing the football. The Colts, on defense, is stopping the pass. I believe the Colts, if they meet the saints in the superbowl. could pull off the win because the Saints defense, while playing a lot better than in years past, is somewhat overrated. They come up with turnovers, but also give up their fair share of points. Given that teh colts offense is far superior to anything the Saints have faced, the Colts could jump out with a lead early. Once that happens, the Saints will be forced to throw and the Colts could unleash their pass rusher. If you are foced to throw against the colts to catch up, you chances of winning become almost nill.

The Difference

Between the Colts and Saints is that the Colts take care of the football and the Saints don’t. The Saints will cool off as the season wears on. Brees will slow a little and their fumbling/INT issues will start to effect games. I agree they are a little overrated on defense but they are still a very strong team.

I would love to see them in the Super Bowl if the Colts were fortunate enough to make it, but I think the Vikings will be there in the end and they are better than the Saints IMO

7-0 feels oh so good. Bring on the Texans....

Yeah, they are.....

But to keep this in perspective, they are in the NFC. Although they are playing like an AFC team. The Saints are well coached, have a high powered offense led by a proven QB who has a lot of smarts. The defense is aggressive and fast. But………we have Freeney and Mathis and……….A BLITZ PACKAGE.

Not so scary at all

they are a great team , and more important the most complete team right now, (other teams are working on getting there).

Tha said , their defense is not that great , INTs on the 1 yard line are fortunate events if you take those away from them they will probably a 5-2 team.

On offense they turn the ball over too much for comfort and the last 2 games had made them beatable.

Maybe they feed of those close games and drop down from the cloud they are and make the corrections and then they will be really scary but for now theyre just another elite team on this league.

One last thing NFL.com week 8 power rankings is not a unanimous decision with the saints on top , 2 experts have the colts that couldnt be if the saints were that scary.

I think they could score on us

I also think even if we got a lead on them that they’d be capable of coming back. It’s like the Pats game in 2007. You have so many weapons on offense and a great QB, it’d be impossible to stop them forever. I think that it would be very tough to hold them to fewer than 24 points with as many weapons as they have. I mean the past two weeks they’ve scored 35 and 46 points despite turning it over 4 times in both games. That’s scary good. I still don’t think they’re defense could stop our offense if it HAD to though. If we did play in the Super Bowl, I think that it’d play out similarly to SB XLIII. The Colts would storm out to a lead, the Saints would come back to take the lead, and Peyton would lead a TD drive to win it at the end.

Well...

It had little to do with the weapons the Pats had as it had to do with the mounting injuries the Colts had up to that game. By the second half of that game, the Colts didn’t have Ugoh (I know ,but still), Harrison, Gonzo, or Clark. I can’t remember if/who was missing from the defense, but with that many offensive guys gone, the Colts were going three and how way too many times in the second half.

As to the Saints? They remind me of past Colts teams that looked great when the team is scoring a bunch, but at the same time the defense is giving up more then you would like too. I think the Colts are a better team, but it is pretty close.

ugoh was actually good that year

so his injury was significant. and CJ was actually not that good at LT that year (but he was never in one position for more than a couple of games, so hard to get into a rhythm) so his presence hurt. Also for that game I think Brackett was the only healthy LB on the team so they went with the constant dime defense.

The Colts have to

make it to the big game before they would play either team……..so……..at this point……I dont care!

I'm kinda hoping

that the Saints and Vikings will lose in the second round to the Lions and Rams, respectively, and that we get one of the two in the SB.

I’m just sayin’

How can you not love a team that does this?

Itd be farfetched

but hey…it can happen

They are the

Greatest Show on Turf a decade later. You can stop them if you really play disciplined, you can get turnovers. They will get their points, they will get your yards, but if you try hard you can do the same to them. I think they are better than what some think here, and are a legitimate candidate for a 14-2 or even 15-1 type season, but the Colts can beat them.

maybe will go undefeated for that matter

but theyre not the 2007 patriots kind of good, and even the mighty patriots lost the biggest game, i think their schedule is softer. how will the colts do if they had saints schedule?

by thebossuzzi on Nov 3, 2009 3:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The 2007 Pats never scared me

We had them in that game. All you had to do was double Moss and pressure Brady. Welker could have 20 catches a game, but without the Moss threat, they were a good but not great defense. That is still the way to beat them. Don’t let Moss beat you and harrass Brady. Unlike Manning, Brady seems to get perturbed by pressure and gets annoyed and tries to force it to Moss

I honestly think that these Saints are harder to slow down, but less dynamic, if that makes sense. As in the Pats would put up 50 if you fail, but the Saints would put up 40, but the Saints are harder to hold under 30, while the Pats could easily be held under 30.

The Saints do look good, but not scary.

Freeney and Mathis and co. could force Drew Brees into mistakes. Like we saw the Falcons do last night. The difference would be, we would capitalize on them.

I got three words for you

Freeney and Mathis.

I can’t remember any D-line really bringing any pressure on Brees, not even the Giants’ “great” D-line, so is the Saints O-line that good? Also, the Saints D has improved, but they’re giving up 3 TDs a game. If they can ever get it down to the low to mid teens, then I’ll be impressed.

Anyway, like MARVINDY said, we have to make it there first before we can talk about them.

"Do I believe in aliens?" Stephon Marbury asked. "I don't know, because I've never seen one. But I believe in Jesus because I saw him in the shower the other day."

Media Darlings

Don’t let the fast start fool you. It’s only halfway through the season and there is still a lot of football left to be played. Also, don’t forget the past teams that everyone was gushing all over and what happened to those teams.

2005 – Colts – lost divisional round
2006 – Chargers – lost divisional round
2007 – Patriots – lost Super Bowl
2008 – Giants – lost divisional round

Only one of those teams even made it to the Super Bowl and none of them won it.
I like being under the radar and hope it stays that way. Go Colts, keep winning by 10 or so points and let everyone worry about the Saints as we keep chugging along.

7-0 feels oh so good. Bring on the Texans....
