Around SBN: PHOTOS: Mike Moser's Dunk Face Is Spectacular

Chad Simpson

Seems to be running really hard whenever he gets carries and pulls out what's needed of him in the clutch. What are your thoughts on this player who showed little promise in preseason and was almost not even in the team?I think he can be found a viable place in the offense, he has the never say die mindset that i love to see in players and it looks like he is starting to be trusted with some touches that he is not taking for granted.

He looks like he might be a good runningback

but his still an awful, awful return man

Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.

It's shocking how much can slip your perception

This is kind of where I sit

Every time Simpson returns the ball, I’m pretty close to asking for this dude to be cut, but he’s had a small handful of great runs when he’s had his chance out of the backfield, so I’m definitely on board with him. Just wish he were better at kickoff returns.

at least

he doesn’t fumble!

I have lambasted Simpson's return ability

But ever since seeing rip off a few hard-fought runs out of scrimmage, I better understand why the Colts have kept him. I would rather we have a more dynamic player at returner (perhaps when Vinny comes back?), and rotate Simpson in more actively to spell Addai and Brown.

How can you not love a team that does this?

I'd rather...

Have Mike Hart running the ball out of the backfield than Simpson and would rather have a squirrel returning than Simpson. Just imo.

Blocking

I would also have moles blocking during the return game than the current players…there are absolutely no holes created.

On the plus side

He doesn’t fumble the ball when returning kicks. That’s really all I ask of him at this point.

I think that is a significant part of the team's philosophy

The O and D are good enough that if we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot in the return game, we’ll win. Priorities:
1) Ball security.
2) Avoid negative plays
3) Ball security
4) Field position

Hard to argue with the overall success of this approach. If you were the 06 Bears with Orton/Grossman at QB, you NEEDED Devoin Hester as a returner or you never make it to the SB. With us, just making sure we get the ball to #18 is the first rule. Anything else (like falling forward one yard) is gravy.

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

I think you forgot "Ball security."

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: What should you do if a hot dog vendor gives you a free hot dog? Why, throw it on the ground, of course.

Simpson's run was great.

However, that was some horrible tackling. Or horrible tackling attempts, should I say. Anyone else notice that the Texans were trying harder to strip that ball in desperation than they were to make a tackle?

Still a great run. I was still griping about Simpson’s poor previous attempt when he shut me up mid-sentence. If only he was that hard to bring down on returns. I’m sure it would help to have some blocking on those returns, though.

YES BUT....

He also had a really standout drive against the Patriots

I love Chad...

I think he makes a great addition to the rotation in the back…

he runs hard from what ive seen

but is a deer in the headlights in the return game (a message from captain obvious)…he hasnt had the opportunities in his real job like brown or addai has. he maybe could be a guy who at least moves the sticks because he hits holes hard and keeps his feet moving through contact. one thing addai would be able to do once his balls descended.
