Hit Me: Questions About The Houston Texans?

[UPDATE]: BBS here. We need to lock this thread, and any others like it, because the chatter at Battle Red Blog has gotten a bit out of control. Some of the same people we've banned from Stampede Blue have taken a similar Fan Post to this one posted over there and turned it into a troll feeding ground. Until things settle down, I kindly ask that you not post over at BRB, and that you not encourage the behavior of some of the posters over there.

Thanks to Tim for making this Fan Post. We always appreciate his insight and his work on the Texans. Unfortunately, some of his readers and main contributors lack Tim's maturity, and I plead that none of you encourage their asshatery.

As always, thanks. --BBS

Howdy, Stampede Blue. I'm Tim from Battle Red Blog, and I figured I should mosey on over to these parts to see if I could answer any questions you might have about Sunday's opponent of your beloved Colts. Of course, there may not be that many questions about a team that's beaten you once in seven (7) years, and I can understand that. For what it's worth, however, I do believe that this is the best Texans squad we've ever had, which I fully realize is akin to saying that a woman is the prettiest girl in Oklahoma. Whether that's enough to bring down Peyton & Co., I don't know, but we're looking forward to giving it a try.

So hit me, Colts fans. Want to know how losing Owen Daniels will affect the offense? After I stop sobbing, I'll answer. Wondering if the Texans' defense is legitimate? I will flip a coin and respond. Curious as to whether Houston fans are enjoying the Titans' struggles? Don't waste your time asking; the answer is a resounding YES, followed by an expletive-laden rant about Bud Adams.

Here's to a great game on Sunday that sees both teams emerge healthy. Good luck.

Another question

I don’t follow the texans too closely and I play with them occasionally on madden (all red uni’s).
Where did the offensive explosion come from and what do you expect your record to be at the end of the season?

As long as we have Peyton we will always have a chance to win.

Better QB play, and better defensive play.

Schaub has been smooth this year. He’s still good for a few boneheaded decisions per game, but he’s been finding the end-zone much more often. Certainly OD having a career year helped that, but he’s doing an excellent job of spreading the ball around and keeping defenses off guard. And finding a way to be successful on offense without a running game and a patchwork offensive line leads me to give some credit to play-calling as well.

The defense has also had a big part in it. They lead the league in forcing three-and-outs, and they’re doing an OK job on forcing TOs. This really eases the pressure on our offense. They know they’ll get the ball back soon, so they don’t feel the need to force it or score a TD on every single possession. I think that played a big part in the TO numbers last year.

I predict 10-6. I think this Texans team has the talent to win any game they play (and this week in Indy will be without a doubt their toughest of the season). But they need to stop beating themselves. A split with your Colts in my mind guarantees at least nine wins. If they stay healthy, I think they’ll step up and beat Miami or New England (the other two games that worry me) to make it ten, and most likely a wild-card spot.

As a Colts fan watching from afar

I can tell you one big help is having Schaub stay healthy. The guy is a great QB but in years past he has always been hurt. Whether by a illegal hit or not, but thats neither here nor there. Fact is the guy got hurt and when he didnt play we saw the LOL known as Rosenchopper and that was just a mess.

on this topic

is anyone else sad that sage rosenfels is not going to play this game? or just me? :)

As long as we have Peyton we will always have a chance to win.

I love it when

Rosenfels plays against us. It’s always been the highlight of my year.

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Man, I need a life...

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: Viz Media (The creators of my absolute favorite show of all-time and inspiration to my avatar, Naruto) just announced a partnership with the channel Disney XD to bring the English-dubbed episodes of Naruto Shippuden (The continuation of the Naruto series) to that station with a new episode airing each week, starting, well, NOW. With the series recording I just put on it, this is one of the greatest days I've had in a long time. I'm not kidding. I love the show that much.

No Rosencopter for you

This year, no 3 turnovers in 5 min to help, to make him the MVP for the Colts this year.

Offensive line...

How will your Tackles hold up against the duo of Freeney and Super Mathis? I havent watched a whole lot of Texan games to notice how good/bad they are

Above average, I'd say.

Our tackles are without a doubt the strength of our offensive line. They’re slightly undersized and quick, which aught to make them excellent at stopping speed-rushers like Freeney and Mathis. that said, things don’t always work out on paper. Last year Duane Brown was abused by Freeney, but then again, he was a rookie. Right now I’d name Brown the Texans’ most improved player. He’s really progressing, and this should be a great test for him.

That said, if we can’t run the ball, they’ll eat us up. The goal should be keeping them off balance by forcing them to respect the run. If they tee off every time, it’s going to be a long day for Schaub.

I answered on the texans blog a question of what scare me the most form your team

i would like to ask you a similar one.

what would you fear the most a monster freeney/mathis day or a big day for peyton?

by thebossuzzi on Nov 4, 2009 11:10 AM EST reply actions

Peyton

We may give up a couple of sacks, but we should still be able to move the ball. Peyton is obviously the toughest test we have had for our secondary. If we can stop the run and get some pressure on Peyton to force quick throws, we may have a chance Sunday.

yalls D is good this year

they are carrying my fantasy team to a 7-1 record after losing the first week.

also keep an eye on antonio smith, glover quin, and bernard pollard.

these three guys have made a HUGE difference in our D and have gone un-noticed outside of our fan base i think

everyone knows about cushing but quin was a fourth rounder, pollard of the chiefs scrap heap, and smith got a big contract, took the first month off, but now he is playing well. and he has to because mario’s shoulder is worse than the texans our letting on.

this would be a huge win, but peyton is just insane so we must play perfect and score in the red zone.

QUESTION
last week yall seemed to stall in the redzone. was it more san fran or an off week for peyton. he had monster yards but couldnt bet the TD’s. im hoping he doesnt decide to take it out against us

Weakness, Strength and Players

What would you say is the biggest weakness and strength on both sides of the ball? Who would you say is the best player on defense not named Mario? How is Brain Cushing looking so far?
