Most Impressive Rookie Thus Far?

The Colts have received some serious contribution from young players this season, particularly the rookie class.  In your opinion, which Colts rookie has been the most impressive to this point in the season? I think the only one I've left off the list is Cody Glenn.  Heck, I even threw Curtis Painter in the mix just for good measure.  Enjoy, and please feel free to leave a comment explaining why you made your choice.

For me it was a toss-up between Brown and Collie

I went with Brown because of what he’s been able to do that our other veteran RB hasn’t been able to with the same O-line.

How can you not love a team that does this?

by LovinBlue on Nov 5, 2009 10:35 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

IMO

Brown has been awesome, but what about a little love for powers? Won the starting job on a 12-4 team. That’s awesome.

I have to be honest

Im no college football guru, so I didnt know much about most of these players prior to the Colts picking them up. But after reading up on everyone shortly after the draft I really thought Brown and Collie would be good, only because of their production in college.

I voted for Lacey because he’s been such a suprise, but i wish i could have voted for he and Powers both. I didnt expect either of those two players to have performed this well already.

Im a homer I know, but I really think in 3 or 4 years we’re going to look back at this offseason in awe of how many good players Polian picked up before this season.

It's gotta be Powers

He’s started every game he’s played and has done a phenomenal job. Without him or Lacey our secondary would be in ruins right now.

by Aerostar193 on Nov 5, 2009 11:41 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

Collie was my first thought, but when I read the list, it was Powers. Collie #2 and Lacey #3. Brown and Moala will get their days, just not yet.

MacAfee is AWESOME, but until he has a Scifres-impact day, he’ll never get a most impressive/best of class award. The dropoff from him to “replacement level” player is 5 fewer yards on KOs and punts—basically a field position disadvantage. The dropoff to a bad CB could well mean a blown coverage TD, or six.

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

It’s so hard to choose. Our rookies have been great and they keep on getting better. Collie is going to be great in the future, that’s for sure.

Between Brown and Collie...

I do love me some Donald Brown. BUT, Collie’s job has been more difficult. It’s more difficult for rookie receivers to contribute than running backs, imo. Collie has had to get the routes down, his timing down, his timing with Peyton and of course Peyton’s chicken dance behind the line.

Love Collie

To produce like he is, in this offense, as a rookie, is phenomenal. Love Powers and Lacey too but I think it’s far more challenging to play as a WR on this offense then to play secondary when we have such a strong pass rush.

by eltharion_doa on Nov 5, 2009 12:11 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I chose Pat McAfee because

(1) he has given the Colts a large upgrade in the punting part of the game over Hunter
Smith; (2) he has improved the Colts kickoff game with deeper kicks than Vinetiari did
last year; (3) he has even become the holder for extra points and field goal attempts.

I voted for Lacey.

Just because I love what our defense has done this year with the new kids.

Percy Harvin.

by Rishi on Nov 5, 2009 1:39 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Whats all the hype with Percy Harvin?

Have you even taken the time to compare his numbers to Collie? Cause if you had you wouldnt see much difference. So let me just throw some numbers at you here quickly…

Collie- 30 Receptions 330 Yards 11 Yard Avg 4 TD’s

Harvin- 28 Receptions 369 Yards 13.2 Avg 3 TD’s (2 of which are kick returns)

So again I ask…whats all the hype with Percy Harvin? Im failing to see how he is that much better than Collie…

because the human hype machine that is brett farve is throwing him the ball.

That and the standard “Peyton Manning is throwing him the ball” and to that I’ll want to yell about manning having to break all of Farve’s records.

Doesn’t make much sense… after all percy harvin was taken 22nd overall… Collie was taken 105 players later…

by shep31 on Nov 5, 2009 4:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

True, They have similar receiving stats

But Harvin has more Return Yards than the Colts do as a team. The Vikings have the #2 kick return team in the NFL while the Colts have the 25th. Harvin has 1,230 total yards and 5 TD’s to Collie’s 330 total yards and 4 TD’s. Not saying their light years apart like they’re being reported, but Harvin has been more of an impact for the Vikings than Collie has for the Colts.

Ignore the hype; look at the results.

by harperslaw on Nov 5, 2009 5:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I have to disagree

about the impact part…Collie has impacted this offense A LOT. Opposing teams have to view him as a threat which helps take pressure off Wayne and (now) Garcon.

by coltsfan723 on Nov 5, 2009 6:24 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, Collie Takes Pressure off of Wayne and Garcon

Trust me, I hate the media love fest of Brett Favre. But you cannot devalue the importance Harvin has had on Minnesota’s return game and team as a whole. With Harvin returning kicks Minnesota has gone from 22 yards per return and 0 TDs in 2008 to 28 yards per return and 2 TDs through just 8 games.

I was wrong about 1 thing: Harvin is actually tied for 1st with Josh Cribbs in Kick Return yardage, and is averaging 3 yards better than Cribbs per return.

Ignore the hype; look at the results.

its really amazing the impact that these guys have had.
You cant deny the impact of the rookie CB’s, they’ve played lights out.
Collie looks like Manning if Manning were a few inches shorter and decided to play WR.
And my vote Pat McAfee has had a massive impact for our D, putting them in a position that allows them to make the stops they have.

Those 4 imo are all deserving. And thats before you consider the fact that Donald Brown looks amazing. The 4 I named have a larger body of work than the Donald which is why I didn’t include him in those 4. But we have 5 rookies that salary, and injury permitting could likely have an impact on this franchise for the next 5-10 years.

That makes for an incredible offseason.

Come on, wouldn't you have preferred we spend

$10 M a year on a splashy FA signing instead of picking up all these no-name kids?

Production is NOT where it’s at, baby. It’s all about selling the jerseys!

This draft class has me pretty psyched about the future.

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

Awww

I love boys when they’re that age…so darn cute. Here’s hoping he gets a good show for his first game! Peyton throwing like 8 TDs would be a good start. And no more freakin’ injuries!

I like the blowing Peyton a kiss idea, btw. =-)

You have season tickets, correct?

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Man, I need a life...

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: Viz Media (The creators of my absolute favorite show of all-time and inspiration to my avatar, Naruto) just announced a partnership with the channel Disney XD to bring the English-dubbed episodes of Naruto Shippuden (The continuation of the Naruto series) to that station with a new episode airing each week, starting, well, NOW. With the series recording I just put on it, this is one of the greatest days I've had in a long time. I'm not kidding. I love the show that much.

I got the chance to go to the Colts Kickoff Luncheon just before the season started and sat next to Ramon. He’s a really cool and down to Earth guy. Initially, I was disappointed that I wasn’t seated one table over (Terrance Taylor was there) but obviously things have since worked themselves out. Haha.

Thank God for Mayflower.

Cass,

I don’t have season tickets. Wish I did. But I know people who do. There’s always a way to get an extra ticket.

I gave some love to Powers.

Him along with Collie and McAfee, etc. have been excellent, but Powers backs it up with consistency, and consistency is one of the things I value most in a player.
