Will Reggie top Marvin as Peyton's best WR?
Link above to an interesting bit on Reggie Wayne.
At the end of the item, the writer asks the question, at the end of Peyton's career, who will be considered the best WR he ever played with, Reggie or Marvin?
I thought this was would make a great debate. Of course it's impossible to know what the future holds for Reggie, but at the rate he's going, things look pretty darn good for him.
What do you guys think? Has Reggie even come close to Marvin?

Wow...I don't know
I feel like Marvin has some speed that Reggie does not.
However, I have never seen so many acrobatic, one-handed catches from anyone as we see from 87! It is as if he tells Manning, “Get it close, I’ll catch it!”

Statistically speaking I don’t think Reggie will be able to top Marvin mainly because Marvin was Peyton’s #1 receiving option since day one. I think Reggie will come close but he won’t top him in this area.
Performance wise, I honestly think it’s a wash. They’re both great players in their own right, however, Reggie is more reliable in the post-season so I’d give him the nod.
I did this a few times at that dump of a site I used to write for so I figured, hell, why not try it out over at Stampede Blue you know? At least this time someone will actually be reading it.

What he said
Unless Reggie plays very good until he’s 36-7, I don’t think he realistically has a shot.

idk i think
that statistacly speaking if reggie stays with this team as long as manning is playing it is possible for him to pass or get very close to marving which if he does will be breaking more recods but i think performance wise marvin is still better. i think he was a little more physical and had more speed and agility. but they are both great recievers and this is a debate for a few more years down the road i think
GO COLTS!!! 09 IS OURS!!!

Marvin physical?
I dont think I have ever heard Marvin described as being physical unless a bar or carwash in philadelpia was included in the story as well.

How soon we forget....
A man named Craphonso!
Seriously, I doubt RW will match MH’s quantitative stats for a few reasons. But in terms of quality and the quantity he can produce, he could make the HOF (say four more years at his current level) and top 6-10 all time in a bunch of categories. That’s pretty damn impressive. Add 40 TDs, 300 catches, 5,000 yards to his current totals and you have totals nearly as staggering as 88’s. Doable, but there is more breadth of options for 18 these days than there were back from 99-2002.
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

Wouldn't it be interesting to hear Peyton's thoughts on this question?

He would shake his head, role his eyes and say,
“Lori, we can’t even begin to make these comparisons. I would be nothing without either one!”

You're right, he'd hate this topic, wouldn't he?
I’ve been thinking about this all morning, after getting over my shock about all the injuries. I’ve decided I like Reggie better.
Marvin didn’t exactly endear himself to fans off the field. I love the way Reggie plays the game, and the way he interacts with us.

Reggie is more cuddly than Marvin
but Marvin was my favorite player (despite recent off-the-field issues).
I dunno – I liked that efficient attitude, those ‘drag-the-toes-forever’ catches, the layout and grab one-hand catch in TN, the acrobatic endzone TD catch in 2006 against NE – he SPIKED the ball (and got a 15 yard penalty for a taunting Mike Vrabel!), the Denver playoff game when he went down and realized he wasn’t touched and simply got up and went into the endzone. He didn’t make up contrived end zone celebrations (neither does Reggie, of course), he just handed the ball off and went to the next play. He had an ungodly diet and was rarely hurt even though he was a beanpole. Every route looked the same and he sold it. He had a rapport with Peyton – I enjoyed watching that.
I don’t develop any type of fan relationship with an athlete or celebrity. Since Marvin never talked, I just appreciated his play on the field.
I don’t think, statistically, Reggie will match Marvin – but I’m very very glad Reggie is here. I just wish Marvin was too.

You put it very well,
Reggie is more cuddly. I like that.

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: Viz Media (The creators of my absolute favorite show of all-time and inspiration to my avatar, Naruto) just announced a partnership with the channel Disney XD to bring the English-dubbed episodes of Naruto Shippuden (The continuation of the Naruto series) to that station with a new episode airing each week, starting, well, NOW. With the series recording I just put on it, this is one of the greatest days I've had in a long time. I'm not kidding. I love the show that much.

Some stats
Wayne is in his 9th year. So I went and looked at 88’s first nine years and compared the two:
Harrison’s Stats through first 9 years: 845 receptions, 11,185 yards, and 95 TDs
Wayne’s stats through first 9 years: 627 receptions, 8,818 yards, and 59 TDs
If you adjust Wayne to Harrison’s receptions, Wayne comes out with 11,870 yards and 79 TDs.
If you look at their stats, you see that Harrison peformed at a higher level more quickly than Wayne did. Harrison’s first year looks more like Wayne’s thrid. Plus, Manning already had a report with Harrison and Wayne had to break into the picture.
If Wayne’s last two years are more productive, he may top Harrison’s numbers, but I doubt it.
That being said, I still think I would rather have Wayne. But if you were to ask someone who watched all of Harrison’s career, they might argue differently!

I meant to say...
If the last two years that Wayne plays are more productive the last to years of Harrison’s career

Short answer: no
Long answer: nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooo
But I think Reggie has an outside shot at the HoF if he keeps doing what he’s been doing for another five years. Tall order for a 31-year-old.

Here's a thought...
do we really care? When all is said and done, we could have the two best QB-WR tandems in the history of the NFL.
Harrison and Manning are on top, but Manning and Wayne are what… in 5th or 6th place…??
by DevilsReject on Nov 6, 2009 2:00 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Well, if Reggie played at this level for another 4 years.....
He would have
1042 Receptions
14645 YDS
99 TDs
That would make him…..
Top ten in receptions
- in yards receiving
Top ten in receiving TDs
That might be a hard level for him to keep up all the way to 34-35, but if he can, there is no doubt that is he a Hall of Famer. If he can win a ring or two more with the Colts – and can play any sort of significant role – he is a first ballot lock.
There is also the fact that Reggie is infinitely more likable. And that will help him a lot in the Hall of Fame voting. I hope he do all the above so that he can retire with Peyton and they can get inducted together.
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation

I hate autoformat. I meant No. 3 all time in yards receiving.

Lori, we drink the same Koolaid
Reggie is one of the best receivers in football, but he would have to stay healthy, and play quite a while. Any given Sunday, any given record !
