Taj Smith?

I loved Taj Smith after watching him sell out for catches in training camp and a bit in pre-season as well.  With a number of injuries opening up roster spots, Gonzo injured for another few weeks, questions about Garcon and Baskett's abilities to catch the ball, any chance we bring up Smith from the PS? Or Giguere, for that matter.

Is there anyone else we should be bringing up from the PS to fill those empty spots?

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

I'm hoping Polian goes defense

We have Baskett, who if he could get his stickum applied properly, could be a solid contributor at WR.

How can you not love a team that does this?

I don't know why

they didn’t bring up Smith right away. He’s in the system and has hands, unlike some others.

What we need right now is defensive backs. Anyone from the PS or preseason we can call up?

special teams

The circumstances around Baskett’s release were strange, in that everyone seems to know it would have been Reggie Brown if not for the money the Eagles owed him. It’s possible he’s a talent that should not have been available two weeks into the season, and just after the Colts had lost a starting WR. But I also think Baskett had a reputation as a good special teamer, which was the immediate need if Garçon was going into the starting lineup.

If and when Taj Smith gets called up, I think we can write off Gonzo for good in ’09.

With the mounting injuries

to the secondary, I expect the Colts to focus on bringing up or bringing in secondary players, not WR’s.

The truth is despite the lingering injury to Gonzo, we still have 4 WR’s that are capable of playing not to mention Dallas Clark.

The concern I would have is what happens if one of our current DB’s gets hurt not named Sanders, Hayden, and Jackson…. all of whom have been pretty much out most of the year anyhow..

There are two roster spots left

One will most certenly be used for a corner or safety. The other will likely be used for the same thing, but Im hoping its used for edge instead

I still contend only 1 will be available once Sanders is IRd

Cody Glenn was quietly brought up on November 4th (to replace Hagler), and Thomas was signed to replace Jackson.

I can't help but think about having Edge back.

The thing is, we have so many other needs. But I would love it if he came back.
I’m torn.

Santi

It’s being reported that Tom Santi is taking Sanders’ spot on the roster. Why another TE?

DB Depth

So we’re looking at Powers, Jennings, Lacey, Bethea, Bullitt, Francisco, and Silva as our depth for Sunday yes? Who’s backing up Wheeler?

Just read Phil B.'s story

He expects the Colts to do some roster shuffling next week to address lack of depth at DB. Maybe they figure that they need to activate the next best player who also knows the system (sort of like drafting the best player available).

Does Santi ever play special teams?

Ah....

Very good point. Forgot about Santi on Special Teams

I was just guessing...

But it’s an honest question – anyone know?

I think he does,

but I’m not sure.

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Man, I need a life...

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: Viz Media (The creators of my absolute favorite show of all-time and inspiration to my avatar, Naruto) just announced a partnership with the channel Disney XD to bring the English-dubbed episodes of Naruto Shippuden (The continuation of the Naruto series) to that station with a new episode airing each week, starting, well, NOW. With the series recording I just put on it, this is one of the greatest days I've had in a long time. I'm not kidding. I love the show that much.

Late in the week

They probably just went with the most acclimated guys they could get for this week and will search for dbs next week. They may be planning to run it more vs. Houston, so Santi may be a factor. Don’t think they wanted to waive him earlier, anyway.
