Quick Recap, Colts 20- Texans 17

The Colts closed another 4th quarter deficit to hold on for a win after Kris Brown's game tying FG attempt as time expired sailed wide left.

The Colts dominated the first 28 minutes of play, but starting with a Manning INT while in FG range the Texans scored 17 unanswered to take a 4 point lead going into the 4th quarter aided by Caldwell icing what turned out to be a blocked FG (2nd attempt was made) and a end around pass by Reggie Wayne being picked off.

Peyton Manning went 34 for 50, gaining 314 yards with a TD and an INT. Dallas Clark was the primary target picking up 14 receptions for 119 yards and an additional first down from a defensive holding call on 3rd and short. After some early struggles the Colts running game picked up with Joseph Addai averaging 4.5 yards a carry and scoring the winning TD on a powerful goalline run.

Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis teamed up for a combined 2 sacks off Matt Schaub's 45 dropbacks. Jerraud Powers picked off his first career pass and made a veteran play to recover a fumble for a touchback likely saving Indy a TD). Clint Session recorded 13 tackles and picked off a 4th quarter pass that very nearly ended the game.

The Colts move to an undefeated 8-0, the Texans drop to 5-4, but appear to be a playoff caliber team (if they play more disciplined football than they did today).

UPDATE: redid the poll since I neglected Powers and Addai's great days.

Unless

I lose in fantasy. Then Addai sucks for getting 22 points.

Saints are down by 14 to the Panthers

Maybe we will be the last undefeated team.

I think

Carolina can do it…they got a pretty good run game.

I'd give my game ball

to Eric Foster. He played great when he was needed.

2nd game ball goes to Jerraud Powers.

by mgrex03 on Nov 8, 2009 4:30 PM EST reply actions

We had a lot of good games from players

For a 3 point win. Powers, Foster, Freeney, Session, Addai, Peyton, and Clark. Just 2 bad drives and a bad timeout really.

Just sayin’.

by Colts Homer on Nov 8, 2009 4:33 PM EST up reply actions

the pick WAS NOT

Peyton’s fault. WAS NOT WAS NOT WAS NOT!

Nothing personal CH, but if one more person puts it on Peyton, I’m gonna make a fanpost about this and force shake to put it on the main page. The INT occurred because Collie ran the wrong route. It was intercepted by a guy that Manning didn’t see and couldnt anticipate because he should have been running to the sideline in coverage of collie.

It wasn’t a busted play. Collie ran the wrong route. Manning is not a super computer that knows when people run the wrong route. If he waits to check every receiver to make sure they are doing their job he’d have a 100% sack rate.

hey guys many thing went wrong but many things went right also

we have a defense and at this point of the season i rather have a struggling offense than a bad defense , offense will get their mojo back, offense have manning and wayne , i think our WR are banged up a lil they will get it together , any way this game wasnt supposed to be by 3 at the end the timeout on the 56 yarder was a fortunate event for them , again im pleased at how the defense came up with all the injuries in the air , i want o take a look at the defense number they should be good. and we are 8-0 go COLTS!!!!!!

game ball to the Texans Kicker Brown :) joke ball to J addai , by the way garcon is not afraid of the middle guys

How about a poll for who doesn't get the game ball

I vote for Jennings….all that damn cushion…

but still not bad...

for a rookie with little experience. I like his potential much more than any other DB on the roster.

Manning

Didnt have the greatest day in the world…If we had lost this, I would ahve blaimed it on the INT before the half that resulted in at least a 6 point swingl.

by GuruBlue on Nov 8, 2009 4:37 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah because...

right now the last two weeks. Manning seems to be struggling to get the ball in the endzone. Our redzone effieciency has sucked lately. It needs fixed.

Damn, this poll is too hard

I wanna vote for Addai because of his 112 total yards and the 4.5 ypc, but I also wanna give some love to Powers for his 2 TOs and very smart decision on the fumble…who does a girl vote for?!?!

"Do I believe in aliens?" Stephon Marbury asked. "I don't know, because I've never seen one. But I believe in Jesus because I saw him in the shower the other day."

Go with Addai

His numbers were good but considering how much he had to do to get those numbers, the game ball is his. He ended up with quite a bit of the dreaded “dancing in the back field” but made guys miss. His rushing TD was all Addai, no o-line.

Colts had good and bad

Bad: Our pass offense seems to be having issues, plus lost time of possession in the second qutr

Good: Freeney, Powers, Sessions showed they are good defense. I’m glad our defense is playing good.

I think Freeney and Sessions deserve game ball. They had some good run-stuffing plays and Freeney rocked some sacks and Sessions had a good INT.

I like that we take chances, but

there is a time and place. It definitly wasn’t either. Last week perfect, this week no. If we do use plays like that then Wayne, Addai, or whoever else throws needs to know that it is ok to throw the ball away or just try to run yourself. You are not a quarterback so if the reciever is covered please DON"T THROW IT

Freakin Caldwell calls a TO right before a blocked kick. COME ON icing rarely works!

I think

He just wanted to put someone in the endzone in case the kick was short. But I agree that it probably wasnt worth calling anyway

by UnofficialPants on Nov 8, 2009 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

That was the most stupid

thing I’ve ever seen. I definitely lost a bit of admiration for him with that chicken-shit tactic.

by Ayrshire on Nov 8, 2009 10:50 PM EST up reply actions

Now I see what Brown can do for you

Yes, I know Addai did have 4.5 ypc, but I have a feeling that Brown would’ve had at least one big run play for like 40+ yards today.

we’re saving Brown for the last stretch including playoffs. i think they know he can run and are holding him out to ride him to a super bowl!

Ummm...

A more disciplined team would have beat our asses to the ground. If we play like this against NE next week, we are in deep $hit…we had a lot of help from all those penalties, yet, after the first half, Houston completely had their way with our defense. Way too much of a cushion to their receivers in that zone and Schaub really picked us apart and did a great job getting the ball out of his hand real quick. Nonetheless, we need our sure-handed receiver back in Gonzo ASAP…Garcon drops wayyyyy too many! Our offense needs to start putting up those TD’s, and as much as I like Collie, there is and will always be one Stokley.

Thank goodness for Dallas Clark.

GO COLTS

by Z.Pain on Nov 8, 2009 4:44 PM EST reply actions

yea

In my return from my self-imposed hiatus for the 2nd half (the beer is just NOW kicking in) I’m going to echo this and what I said last week: Close games might be good for the soul, but other than the W in the W-L column, they are more telling about a teams flaws. How many drives today got to 3rd and 1 or shorter and the Colts thre a pass? You have GOT TO BE ABLE TO GET THE SIX FUCKING INCHES IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE.

Also, I understand the Texans had a TON of penalties called against them, but how was there no 15yarder on them for cleaning Manning’s clock after he slid? That penalty, which should have been called, would have probably iced the game because we would have been in field goal range and had a chance to punch it in.

Being an asshole doesn't make you wrong. :)

so far the past 2 weeks

they been able to stop our YAC and they were big the first games of the season

by thebossuzzi on Nov 8, 2009 4:47 PM EST reply actions

I'm worried about the secondary

Secondary gave up too many deep passes. If they do that enough number of times next week… goodbye to any shot at undefeated season.

Oh no!

an Undefeated season would be nice but

I think it is too much stress and expectations. All of it crushed the Patriots, well that and David Tyree. But I think I would rather have one loss in the season then go into the playoffs undefeated.

or does anyone else find it humorous that the biggest game in Houston Texans history was today and it resulted in a loss. Way to set your expectations high. LOL
