MarkFive's 5 Points
I know that emiller17 just posted his 5 bigs things, but I was working on this earlier. There were many good points that I can take from the game and along with that some bad points. Here is what I take from this perfect 8-0 Texan win.
1. Our Defense won the game. Plain and simple, the Colt's defense won this game. Yes that it right, you didn't read this wrong. In close games the outcome is usually determined by who has the ball last. Who had the ball last in this game? Not the Colt's offense. And give major credit to Caldwell in having trust in his defense to win the game for him. But do not forget to give even more credit to Coyer for implementing the little wrinkles that had Brackett blitz causing the Session INT. To be completly honest in the Dungy-Meeks led years, I beleive the Texans would win that game 9 out of 10 times. This defense is doing excatly what it is designed to do: create turnovers and get the other team off the field (most the time).
2. Execution in the 3rd quarter. Our execution in the 3rd quarter is killing us. The Offense is having 3 and outs and our Defense cannot get off the field. We ran 3 plays this 3rd quarter.
3. Short yardage running. It is finally here! We can finally effectively run for short yardage! Well we could this game. I beleive taking Pollack out helped, as we finally able to run right for positive yards. It was nice to see Addai score a rushing TD.
4. Play calling or execution. We left many points on the field today: kicking fgs instead of TDs while we were in the redzone, it almost cost us the game. I'm not sure which one it was to blame, the play calling or just the execution of those plays. There a number of dropped passes.
5. Johnson and O-line. We all gave Caldwell a ton of heat for benching Ugoh out of the blue and starting the whipping boy, but that whipping boy has grown up and is a much than competent starter. He finally benched Pollack and our running game improved. The Texans have a ferious pass rush and we surrended a couple sacks today, but i don't remember too many rushes going for negative yards. I also noticed Manning has definately lost some mobility in the pocket. When the pressue got close Manning went down fast, probably to avoid injury. Not sure how much I like that, the part about Manning losing mobility. Now if only we can get Caldwell to look into Ugoh playing some RG/RT.
Extra Credit. Da Roof Da roof Da roof is on fire! Once again the roof was open, once again (I beleive) the Colts suffered by losing the ball in the sun in the Red Zone. I believe that if the Texans won the toss the Colts would of defended that goal instead of playing into it. In the future though they really should look into just keeping it closed.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

Good concept huh?
1) Agreed! Coyer really needs to start getting some credit in the major media.
2) The third quarter was our worst on defense as well. Not a good combination. Anyone else feel better when we lose the toss and get to have the ball to start the second half? Can we petition to have the ball to start the second half anytime we win the toss?
3) I don’t think our short yardage running will ever be stellar, but this did show some life. Always remember to count our WR screens and Addai’s recieving TD as part of the running game. (PS: Nice job to Saturday on that play but not only for the block. He could have easily released downfield early on that play and would have gotten flagged! Veteran play!)
4) It’s gotta be a combination. I think we are getting a touch predictable in the Red Zone, but we also execute the worst in that area. Something upon which to improve! Gotta love that at 8-0.
5) I haven’t commented much on Caldwell this year because I tend to hold judgement as long as I can to get a full picture. I have agreed with a large number of the “head coach” decisions in season. I was wary during the camp because I didn’t see enough. I think he is a good it for this team and this fan base. He fits our personality. Again, not calling him a huge success yet, but it was a good move by the Colts FO.

i must say our defense
struggled in the second half although in the 4th quarter they came up big when they absolutly had to.
the third quarter was horrible for our D and is the reason they had so much pressure on them in the fourth IMO. we have to get three and outs i dont know what happend int the third. one posession (has that ever happend before how does it). ill take a guess that that wont happen again it is just one of those weird things.
also we got to get Brown back he will help our offense alot both running and mostly just balance overall and i think he will be a big help in the red zone. i think teams see him as more of a running threat especially in the red zone.
GO COLTS!!! 09 IS OURS!!!

Peyton's Mobility
is not really a factor here. If you go back and look at all of the sacks he’s taken the last 2 weeks, the pocket literally collapsed in on him and short of throwing the ball up for grabs, he had nowhere to go…
As for the rest, all good points but the Colts are not going to 3 and out everyone. The Texans are a good team, and really have underachieved to a certain extent this season, despite their record.
