What is up with Pierre Garçon?
Seriously, I can't figure him out. Granted I was watching the Texans game live and not from the greatest seats but it looked like he was dropping some very catchable balls. Then, just when I'm ready to write him off, he reels in a couple of circus catches and looks like Superman (or at least Batman).
My brother saw the same thing and pointed out that Garçon has had a few other games this year following this same pattern: Drop some seemingly easy balls, catch some really tricky ones. Is it a concentration problem? When the coast looks clear is he thinking too hard about the end zone and not about making the catch? I want to like him but he's making me crazy.
Please offer your own random opinions on this totally unscientific observation.

He's practically a rookie. He spent last year adjusting to the league after playing DIII in college and returning a few kicks
this is his first year actually playing.

So I should get off his back?
Fair enough. It sounds like you’re saying it’s nothing he can’t grow out of. I can believe that.

I think he's got all the talent, but needs work
it’s perfectly fine to point out his screw ups (I fanshot’ed him being FO’s worst WR/TE of the week a while back), and encouraged to miss Gonzo, but it’s just not surprising that the 6th rounder from a DIII school still has rookie moments in the 1st half of his first year getting real time.

Mixed feelings
I get tired of the easy drops, but I love the tough plays. I prefer Gonzo and his consistency in receiving way over Garcon, but I think Garcon will improve and be a consistent depth player for us.

Lets give him a chance to grow.
He has caught some amazing passes and has dropped some very very routine passes. Its part of the growing process i guess. The guy (along with brown) can hit the home run on any given play, which is a very valueable threat to have in this league. With a little bit of work, he will develop into a very good receiver…. i picture him as being a very very raw desean jackson right now.

I love Garçon, but he is NO DeSean
DeSean’s strength is his speed and ability to make defenders whiff (he had a punt return last week that reminded me of this return against Tennessee). Garçon is more like a tough fireplug to me.
How can you not love a team that does this?

just their builds are on opposite extremes
DeSean is 5’10" and 175lbs soaking wet. Garcon is 6’1" and a beefy 210.

same thing with Collie.
They are both still pretty much rookies.
Collie dropped a couple of very catchable balls as well.
I have to assume this is all because of being rookies so of course they are going to have some drops. I think they will be fine.
Also another thing to keep in mind, these aren’t PROLIFIC recievers, even in the future I don’t really see them becoming that, just very solid ones. So it’s just like all the other #2 and #3 recievers in the league, there will be drops.

Garcon
The drops are annoying, but he’s young and will get better. I do like, no scratch, LOVE the way he powers into defenders. He lowers his shoulders and tries to knock them out the way Adrian Peterson bulls his way through guys. He’s a physical guy and it’s great (just watch the damn holding penalties).

I'm not a fan of Garcon
He comes through every now and then, but he isn’t reliable. I also hate how much he runs his mouth. I want to like the guy, but he carries himself in a way that is different from what we’re used to. Catch the ball. Shut up. Catch the ball again.

I like him a little
but he seems to have the “me first” mentality that is so tough to root for with some of the receivers nowadays. I would rather him work on fundamentals and being more reliable than thinking about how everyone is going to love him if he makes a great play.
8-0 feels oh so good. Bring on the Pats....

nothing is wrong.
after the cards/seahawks game teams have stopped singling the receivers and stopped blitzing as much as they were and now they are playing a lot of zone which is limitting his effectiveness.
Being an asshole doesn't make you wrong. :)

I think your expectations are
a little high. Although Peyton compared him to a young Marvin, he is NOT Marvin. Nor is he Reggie Wayne, or even Gonzo. He is an athletic tough receiver who is young and inexperienced. He deserves criticism for dropped passes and penalties, but remember we’re dealing with youth and inexperience. I was at the game too, and Pierre was not the only one dropping balls. There were quite a few guys out there with butter fingers. I have been very impressed with Pierre, as we all should, just as we should expect mistakes. He is not a pro bowler receiver (maybe one day, but not yet), but is a very solid one.
I tip my hat to you for use of the cedilla. Very nice.

Tip your hat to Firefox
Believe it or not, the spell checker in FF suggested the cedilla. I type in “Garcon”, FF underlines it in red, I right-click, and presto: Garçon!

I completely agree, Pierre is young and inexperienced. However, he has a chance at being a really, really good receiver. I am not ready to say great, yet. Of course he is not Marvin. Peyton was making comparisons based on his work ethic and route running ability. WR in the NFL is all about the work you are willing to put towards the craft.
What a great set of receivers the Colts have over the next couple years: Wayne, Gonzalez, Collie, Garcon and of course Clark. 5 solid receivers. I honestly cannot think of another team with this level and depth of talent at the WR/TE position for the next several years.

I remember the first couple of years of Reggie Wayne....
Reggie took a couple of years to develop as well. He had his share of drops, and they always seemed like the easiest to catch. I also remember Dallas getting hit on the hands alot also. Hell Dallas still flubs around a half dozen a year. But he gets alot of chances. Garcon will be OK, Peyton will cure his concentration lapses or else…..and you know Garcon doesn’t want to know what “else” is.

That was his problem last year
Garcon was like that last year. That’s partly why he got benched. But as Manning says, it take’s real game time to become good. He’s got the speed and he’s showing the potential. I think he just needs to practice a littler more with Peyton and get the routes down pat and he’ll be fine.
