Run Game
So, after watching the Colts run game the last few games then reading today's piece about the effectiveness of said running game, I'm still not sold that we don't need some changes at the RB position. I totally agree that the O-line needs to improve their run blocking, no argument there. Was glad to see DeVan starting in lieu of Pollak and I think he'll continue to improve but I like to see less dancing in the back field and more downfield running to hit the hole.
Don't get me wrong, I'm an Addai believer and wear #29 on game days but I do not believe he's an every down back. While I generally bow down to Polian and the Colts' front office decision making, I still say that picking up Edge can't hurt. I've got to believe that he'd a better backup than Chad Simpson or Mike Hurt Hart. If we can pick up Simeon Rice for a couple of games of non-production, surely Edgerrin James is worth a look, right?

WHat?
No way, he just needs a home.

How can you not love a team that does this?

Nice.

A nice hot bowl of oatmeal for breakfast
and a mint on the pillow at night. Maybe some fuzzy slippers if he has to use the restroom in the middle of the night.
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

Edge is done...
If you want another Joe Addai on the team, bring back Edge. I’d take the younger one.
Oh no!

Why The Running Game Is So Bad
Two very simple reasons.
1. The O line is just plain bad at run blocking. That said, Brown seems to make bigger plays out of his few running opportunities than Addai does. Addai is still a solid RB also, but just not as talented as Brown.
2. The coaching staff and Peyton (he takes some blame because he is the ultimate play caller) are simply not committed to running the ball. The reason why we have terrible stats (60-75 ypg) is because we only run the ball about 15-20 times a game. That’s not enough. If we are blowing a team out, or in a close game, we should be running the ball on a consistent basis or at least give the other team the threat of a run. To be a complete team, we need to stay as committed to running the ball as we have committed to stopping the run.
7-0 feels oh so good. Bring on the Texans....

In addition to your 2nd point, the reason we can’t run the ball all that much is because it seems like we are always fighting our way back from some sort of a deficit over the past few weeks…

Why is Edge done and NOT Ricky Williams?
Which one extends an athlete’s career more, bong-weaving classes at the University of Thailand or working out 24/7?
I say Edge has more left in the tank—it’s a matter of an offensive system that fits him and a decent price point. If the Hawks are still paying him, then his price should be pretty low. I assume he can (1) pickup a blitz as well as ever, and (2) catch out of the backfield as well as ever. I also assume (3) his running is NFL average. Behind a mediocre line, that’s 3.3 YPC.
Which makes him an adequate depth pickup who offers intangibles nobody else can (knowledge of the O system and communication with 18). If we are picking up somebody to be the tailback 40-50% of the time, no, his tires have lost too much tread. If we need somebody to be 100% reliable 10% of the time and maybe surprise us with a 10 yarder now and then, Edge is the man. 5 touches a game for 30 yards, plus two key blitz pickups…. That would be helpful.
Plus his big brother persona.

I like the backs we have now...
Addai did seem to slow down the past couple years but I’ve seen a change in him this season. He may not be making big plays all the time, but when he runs, he gets what is needed and asked of him. Much love to Addai
Brown in my opinion is going to be a great back once he has a little more experience under his belt. Hurting his shoulder has set him back a bit, but when he runs he has explosiveness. He needs work on blocking when he’s not running the ball, but he’s young and will only get better.
Chad Simpson is better at back than at returner. He made an amazing display of skill and strength in his TD run against the Texans. I’d love to see more of him in the back running the ball along side Addai and Brown.
O line needs a little work getting those holes opened up, but nothing that they can’t work on and get down. I think they are just used to protecting Manning, not opening holes.
