Indy Put a Claim for Jack Williams but Detroit Got Him
From bbs- Feel a little sorry for Williams. He went from the 6-1 Broncos to getting a claim from the 8-0 Colts to going to the Lions. The Lions also signed former Colts corner Jason David last week, who they then cut today to make room on the roster for Williams.

Detroit?
Well sucks to be him. Could be worse, he could have gone to Cleveland.
Go Colts!

Can he refuse to go there?
I’m guessing the waiver wire is like a trade, where the player really has no choice in the matter.
I think it is pretty obvious where he’d like to play.

I'd be ok with David coming back
He wouldn’t have to learn the system, and he could play this week.
I fully expect to see 4 WR sets from the NE offense this week.

The more interesting Question is:
So assuming we sign Jason David, who becomes the most hated corner on the roster? Is it still poor tim jennings?

Did you hate him
when he was shutting down receivers in the 2006 playoffs?

We let him go because he could get money elsewhere
Bringing him back at vet-min might actually be worth it after Marlin Jacksons injury.

David is a good Tampa 2 back
but the Saints used him in a man to man role and he sucked, but he does know the system. But at this point and time even if we do sign him, I think Lacey and Powers still deserve the start.
Back when I was picking beans in Guatemala, we used to make fresh coffee, right off the trees I mean. That was good. This is shit but, hey, I'm in a police station.

Another Caldwell quote
Caldwell also said the Colts may consider signing a defensive back after placing S Bob Sanders and CB Marlin Jackson on injured reserve last week.
From IFR
How can you not love a team that does this?

It only makes sense.
Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: This is my dad's favorite scene from one of my all-time favorite shows. Full of win, IMO.

DAMN YOU DETROIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wouldnt have mattered if detroit didnt claim him
two other teams, CLE and PHI, also put in waiver claims for him, and would have been awarded him before the Colts. F rewarded bad teams beyond the draft!

sorry, meant
f rewarding*
I agree 100% with the worst team getting the #1 draft pick, but to continue to reward incomptence during the season is redonkulous. Reward it based on number of people that make over league min that go on IR during the week!

I wouldn't be surprised at all
to see Jason David come back on a 1-year deal, especially given Caldwell’s comments.
He’s a free agent that already knows our system, and has displayed good ability to play in a cover-2.
…and hey, I’m sure he’d be at least an improvement over Jennings.

would be an improvement over Jennings….just sayin

hey not a chance
four teams claimed him Cleveland, Detroit, Indy and Philly, we were the last on that list , so it wasnt going to happen.

Waiver
Since J-David is a veteran he won’t go though waivers, Right?
by sandsnake on Nov 9, 2009 7:51 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
so basically, if we want him we should be able to get him (unless someone wants to pay him a lot)
by sandsnake on Nov 9, 2009 7:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
David is a unrestricted FA imo.
so yes no waiver wire, but why would the colts want a player who was cut by one of the worse teams in the NFL ? i think hes not even a shadow of the 2006 one.

what is the real downside? He knows the system. He may suck, but I doubt that he is much worse than “aaron Fransisco”who until I looked him up did not know he was on the roster.

he is a sad story
The Saints released him after their first exhibition. He said he tried out for the Browns and Seahawks soon afterward but failed both physicals. So he rehabbed a shoulder problem, worked out and waited.
“When people say he was just literally on the streets, that’s kind of how I was,” David said. "I was still trying to work out as much as I can and backpedal and stuff, but it’s not the same as actually putting on the pads and strapping it up. … You’re never really prepared for the speed of the game. It’s going to take me a minute to just kind of get my legs under me.
sad story to be out of job again. but he is 5’ 8" . with the 6’ 2 -6 ’ 4+ WR that are now dominating this game, he’s got a disadvantage , do you think Randy Moss would pick on him? imo we should look for another one guys.

David played well for us
in the cover 2….the Saints wanted him to play in man to man and he stunk. since he knows the system and the Colts still use the cover 2, he might not be a bad pick up for a year contract.

if we need to sign a DB
it is because we might need him if another injury hit us, a 5’ 8" beat up guy who was cut by the most likely team we will face in the SB if we get there?
The Saints came from behind against the Panthers who by the way plays a cover 2, was with vertical routes down the middle and the small DBs were owned.
Idk but i still think J David is not a good idea.

I gotta disagree. David wasn't *that* good at all
Merely, he was an acceptable caretaker of the position who didn’t screw up much. Beyond that, he was cut for a reason. I distinctly recall no one in online Colts fanhood griping about him going unsigned by the team.

We had Jackson and Hayden waiting
So it wasn’t a big deal. The fact that we took corners with our 1st and 2nd pick in one draft indicated that we were serious about grooming replacements. That definetly made David not worth the money. But now? I wouldn’t mind bringing him in over Tim Jennings. It certainly couldn’t be any worse.
