The MVP Race
Let me begin by saying Cole is a douche. I'm glad to see other colts fans here dissing him. He says that saints > colts and brees > manning because they beat the patriots by more. Okay...the rams won by 5 against the rams, we won by 36. So by Cole's theory, we are 31 points better than the saints for that reason? Here's what I will admit, though. Manning is NOT at the top of the MVP race. He is third. Sorry.
1. Brett Favre - This guy could put up a stat line including 2 picks a game, 1 fumble, 1 touchdown, and 180 yards. The 'experts' would still be kissing his feet. But to be honest, what he's doing is ridiculous. THREE interceptions?! Brett Favre is forty, and ready to put together the best year of his ENTIRE CAREER. He's also doing this with amazing consistency, three games under a 100 QB rating, and one was a 95. Even with Adrian Peterson, Brett Favre is worthy of an NFL record four MVP awards at this point. But ask him, he would rather have that Lombardi trophy.
Current Stats - 24 TDs; 3 INTs; 2874 yards
2. Chris Johnson - Being a running back in this amazing year of QBs could ruin his chances. But what if the Titans go 9-7 or 10-6 and make the playoffs? Sure, Vince will receive a lot of credit, but CJ is the Titans. He IS the entire team. If he breaks the record for rushing yards, it would make him even better. But here's what shocks me, he isn't doing this on a massive running team. He isn't doing this with consistent carries. He is averaging over 6 yards a carry (insane, this does NOT happen in the NFL) and is receiving UNDER 20 carries a game.
Current Stats - 1396 yards (6.4 YPC); 9TDs; 294 REC yds; 1 REC TD
3. Peyton Manning - Two interceptions in three straight games. Not impressive. You want to know what is? All comeback victories. I don't know who ever said he wasn't clutch. Manning defines clutch. In the regular season, at least. He's doing this with only a minimal threat from the ground game. Great consistency could lead to a fourth MVP award.
Current Stats - 24 TDs; 11 INTs: 3415 YDS
4. Drew Brees - The only reason he's so low on this list is because this is a complete team. The saints can beat you in ways you can't even imagine. Of course, I'm not scared of them in the playoffs. I don't think they can handle it yet (big talk for a colts fan, huh?) because they're relatively new at being good. Remember when the colts where like that? Brees is putting up a fantastic season, but it's less impressive than last year, when he almost broke the NFL mark for passing yards in a season. If the Saints go 16-0, he'll probably catapult to the top of the list, though.
Current Stats - 27 TDs; 9 INTs; 3117 YDS
5. Adrian Peterson - Remember him? People are forgetting who this guy is now. He is still, in my opinion, the best RB in the NFL. How long do you think Favre's arm would hold up if he had, say, The Bears running game? Jay Cutler is proof that even a pro-bowl quarterback needs a running game to help him (unless your name begins with a P and ends with an eyton Manning). Chris Johnson has overshadowed him, but I wouldn't be surprised if AP continued to produced consistently while CJ falters somewhere down the stretch.
Current Stats - 1084 YDS; 12 TDs; 233 REC YDS; 0 REC TDS
And now my predicted stats for the end of the season...
Brett Favre - 4100 Yards, 33 Touchdowns, 6 interceptions
Chris Johnson - 2024 rushing yards, 14 Touchdowns
Peyton Manning - 5022 yards, 32 Touchdowns, 14 interceptions
Drew Brees - 4400 yards, 35 Touchdowns, 14 interceptions
Adrian Peterson - 1712 yards, 18 Touchdowns
There it is.

hey rames beat the rams by 5 :) i think you ment saints beat the rams by 5 jsut thought id let you know
GO COLTS!!! 09 IS OURS!!!
and for you final predictions for manning i have been keeping track of his yards and
he will need one or two 400 yard games to reach that number i think but i have been basing it off of 5090 which means he would have the record. he will have very close to 5000 for sure though so your not really off much at all if at all
GO COLTS!!! 09 IS OURS!!!
I should actually fix that
It would require a pace of a little over 313 YPG, manning is currently at 310. Not to mention he will probably rest during the last game or two, meaning that 5000 could be out of reach.
Favre...
At age 40 is probably having the best season of his amazing career. Three interceptions is just incredible. His team is 10-1 and he had that signature moment in the comeback win against the 49ers.
…but let’s not lose sight of reality here… Manning is 11-0 and had a great comeback against the Dolphins… and the Niners… and Texans, Patriots, Ravens and Texans again! Manning will surpass Favre by more than 800 yards when it is all said and done, while completing an obscene 70% of his passes. Manning is called upon to do much more in his offense than Favre is within his. Any time you hear a pick for MVP that is Favre, Brees, etc… it is immediatly followed by justification for picking him over Manning. Perhaps that is because picking Manning requires no justification in of itself… since it is too obvious to be overlooked.
This has been said
by me and a few others on here….Favre is not even the MVP of his team IMO. How can he be League MVP?

I'm wondering if you're correct.
Are the Vikings really that much better without Favre than they are w/o Peterson? Or Jared Allen? I don’t really think so. Adrian Peterson is a talented, talented guy who deserves the carries he gets. However, don’t make the mistake of discounting the level that Favre’s playing at.
Don’t get me wrong; I don’t have much confidence in him personally (and think he’ll flame out in the playoffs – he’s always been a bit careless with the ball), but his numbers speak for themselves and command attention. If Tarvaris Jackson is behind center, I guarantee you they lose at least 3 more games and Peterson’s rushing totals are lower.
Yeah because Tavaris Jackson under center stopped Peterson from leading the NFL in rushing last year
I don't think the sarcasm was necessary or warranted.
It seems like a fairly obvious point to me that if the defense has to respect the deep passing game from Favre in a way they never had to before, that it can only help Peterson. I guess I should have clarified he’d have about the same yardage but on a bunch more attempts because teams could stack the box more often. Does that make you feel better?
WHAT!??!?!?!??!?! THE RAMS PLAYED AGAINST THE RAMS AND THEY LOST BY FIVE POINTS WOW IF THE RAMS ARE THAT BAD THAT THEY CAN'T BEAT THEMSELVES THEN THEY MUST REALLY SUCK
haha. u gotta a mistake jus tryin to point it out, good post i liiiike it

Two words:
Week. Twelve.
This time last year Favre’s Jets were 8-3 and still in the driver’s seat in the AFC East. They were coming off impressive back-to-back road wins over the Patriots (34-31 in OT) and the Titans (34-13 dismantling of a previously unbeaten team). Favre’s numbers weren’t as impressive as they are now (20 TDs and 14 picks after week 12) but he was still in the MVP conversation. And we know how that turned out.
I’m not saying that the Vikings will implode the way the Jets did last year. Favre seems to be healthier, he’s throwing smarter, and the Vikings are just plain better. But you’ve got to wonder about “regression to the mean” (as shake would say) and how long Favre can keep playing at this level.
Compare with Manning and how the Colts offense show every sign of still being on their way up (Garçon, Collie and Addai all improving, Gonzo coming back any minute now).
If you rank guys as if the season were ending today, go ahead and put Favre on top. If you rank guys based on where you see them ending up after 16 games, I still think Peyton has the edge.
"The best defensive player is the sideline." - Trevor Pryce, on how to stop Peyton Manning
that's the point
Favre won’t last an entire season. Not really his fault, he is just getting old.
Btw, I really respect what Favre is doing this season, and he truly deserves the MVP.
However, and comparing him to Brees or Manning, the Vikings have been quite good even without him. We all know that, if either the Saints or Colts miss their starting QB’s, their seasons are pretty much done. That ain’t the case with the Vikings. Sure, they have more chances with Favre but I guess that’s not the point of the award.
Its a Most Valuable Player, not a Most Amazing Player. I know they are related, specially to the media, but I would give it to Brees or Manning.
