I Know We Have A Superbowl to Win...

Okay, so I know this is early to start talking about draft picks and the Colts needs, but I thought to myself, "Hey, what is better than discussing the football fate of the Indianapolis Colts on a Friday afternoon".  So, first of all, given the team we have right now (we don't know who will be let go, resigned and so forth), what position revamping would you think we should focus on.  Here is my take on the matter -

Yes, I know the majority of people may lean towards offensive line, however, considering the amount of sacks given up, I honestly wouldn't worry too much...and to be honest, I think our run game is just fine.  There is one person who I would love to see the Colts draft this coming year (if he is still available), and I am sure you may have heard of him...DT Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska!  No offense to the job that Muir has done during the year (it has been rather admirable), but this guy is far too good to pass up.  At 6'4, 300lbs, could you imagine this guy lined up next to Johnson, Freeney and Mathis?  I know he plays an outside end position now, but this guy has the size and talent to be converted to a Nose Tackle.  He is a pass rushing machine and plays the run real well, and I really think this D-Line would become completely unstoppable.  What does this mean?  Well, this means we don't need to commit undersized LB to the run game so aggressively, which would further improve our pass defense (more bodies to cover down field).

The point of this post is for people to share their ideas as well "constructively" criticize others...so by all means, feel free to call me a dumb ass if you disagree :)

Happy Friday to Colts Nation!

We still need to drop kick Diem.

Need another OT to do that.

Are you high? Suh is a top 3 pick. Yeah, he’d be an absolute monster in the middle of our line, but we’d be mortgaging the franchise on the guy. I mean, based on the draft points system, we’d be sending 3-4 years worth of picks to some team for the rights to Suh.

It’s easy to say “Wouldn’t it be awesome if we had Player X, who is the best at his position in college” but realistically, that’s not going to happen, barring a complete collapse, like Peyton goes down on the first play of the first game of the season.

Best case scenario, we’re probably picking in the 3-6 range in the first round, and even that isn’t a given. Unfortunately, top flight offensive tackles (our biggest needs) are almost always highly drafted guys. I think that we need to look in to moving CJ or Ugoh to RT and see what happens, because Diem isn’t getting it done.

Actually...

High? I wish….

You can still trade players along with draft picks, to move up…So, you don’t need to “mortgage” the franchise by giving away multiple year draft picks…would we be taking a gamble, of course, but that is the whole draft system anyways. It comes down what teams need (veteran players + draft picks, just draft picks, etc.)…crazier shit has happened in the draft!

John Elway was drafted #1 overall in the 1983 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts before being traded to the Denver Broncos for Mark Hermann, Chris Hinton and a 1st round pick in 1984…so maybe anything is possible!

i hate elway i really really hate him,

wasnt there some confusion about him not wanting to play for the colts but he really didnt mean that, i still hate him tho

In terms of need for the Colts I’d rank them as follows:

1. O-linemen
2. DE depth
3. LB depth
4. Safety strong or free doesn’t matter
5. DB general
6. Anything else would be depth

Where the Colts will go is beyond me. It all depends on who falls to them or who doesn’t.

I agree with that...

What I love is we are missing a hall of famer (marvin harrison) and an 07 defensive player of the year and we’re 13-0. I say we trade down and collect picks for when we really need them.

Yup, perfectly agree with this.

We might have to think about a kicker as well…

I like how you say you are fine with our o-line

And then say we waste a 1st round pick improving what has been a solid d-line this year.

We have Peyton Manning at quarterback. That means our top priorities should be to give him weapons and protect him. Our defense doesn’t have to shut people out for us to win football games, but we need Peyton protected. Diem has been slacking, and I would love for us to get a solid LT so Charlie Johnson could move over to RT.

I agree with King Richard in terms of our needs. Although I’d put LB depth over DE depth.

I can't even begin to think of the Draft this time of year.

I’m too busy enjoying this season so far.

If we really want Suh

Here’s another controversial option…

Given his consistent injured state, what about approaching St. Louis or Tampa about trading Bob Sanders and our 1st round pick for their 1st round pick to grab Suh? Bullitt becomes the permanent starter and we draft for depth in later rounds

Bleh...

I think Muir has been far more impressive than A. Johnson.

I see OL as the spot for biggest need. LB and CB needs depth big time, but the need for a starting caliber player is really in OL. DL seems fine. Give Moala a chance to develop. Oh, a good pass rushing DE (NOT a hybrid guy like Wheeler, I mean DE) to complement F & M would be nice.
