Week 14: Late Games Open Thread

Your early results

Mini-Recap

The Colts D has arrived. The Colts O fired out strong going up 21-0 midway through the 2nd quarter with 3 TDs on 4 drives. After that the Colts O went on hiatus gaining just 29 yards on 7 drives over the next 2 quarters before a 80 yards TD drive that iced the game.

While the Colts O was M.I.A. the D held the Broncos to just 16 points, despite secondary injuries forcing a badly overmatched Tim Jennings to cover Brandon Marshall (who caught an NFL record 21 passes for 200 yards and 2 TDs). This D is for real. The D held on for the win despite a total lack of offense for much of the game.

Titans-Rams, Redskins-Raiders and Chargers-Cowboys are the late games. Chat away.

It was a great win

This D is for real indeed , we never trailed and won by 12 thats a blowout win in my book it sure felt e lot closer than that but as i predicted over at MHR , redzone performance was going to be key, defenses wins championships, enjoy the records and 13-0

But with all due respect…his team lost and McDaniels was punched in the face by the better rookie coach.

I wouldn't say bitter

but they were a little too anxious to crown themselves. I am happy for the city of Denver and their team…but I was hearing Superbowl and undefeated talk after their 6-0 start…come on, son.

by JakeCaan on Dec 13, 2009 4:41 PM EST up reply actions

Why can't most cities fans be like KC fans?

I’m serious. They’re absolutely cool. Even when they were going 13-3, they weren’t overbearing. They’d brag it up, but they’ also be like “Man, your team is good too!” and all that stuff.

Maybe I just haven’t met the jerkoffs, but I’ve yet to see a Chiefs fan be an ass. Hell, on another board I play on, the coolest guy there is a KC fan. Other cities need to stop emulating Oakland, Baltimore, etc.

Okay, boys and girls...

… get ready for a whole lot of names on the Colts you’ve never heard of before. Against a team that’s known to play rough – Jacksonville – you honestly think Indy’s going to risk anybody important?

I recall a game I went to a long time ago, while still in the Dome; it was against Jacksonville. Edge was still there, and so was Stokely. Stoke went deep and his defender kept him in front of him. Well, turned out it was a running play, so the ball stayed way back at the 20 or so. The defender slowed down as Stokley did. Brandon turned to watch the play, and as he did, he came up to the DB and laid his hand on his chest.

The Jags DB picked Stoke up around the thighs and body slammed him down. We all started booing. There was not a ref in sight. Stoke stood up and I don’t remember what happened after that, but the whole thing is that on an unimportant play, where the ball was yards away, a Jags player decided to get rough.

When the game doesn’t count, I’m 100% for keeping the starters out. Who knows which one of those psychos will decide to make a name for himself by hurting a Colts player. It’s a Thursday, give the key players some perfuctionary snaps, then let the bench guys get the PT. To heck with Jacksonville; we don’t need to win against them. Heal everyone up; I don’t care if that means Toudouze plays LT on offense, and someone we’ve never heard of plays end on D. Let Josh Snow or Jamey Richards play center. Let Hart get 30 carries. Let Silva play deep safety. Put Jennings in MLB (yes, I know he’s not a linebacker; it’s a joke). I don’t care. Just keep Manning, Wayne, etc. out of harms way until the playoffs.

over/under on inactive starters next week.

Gonzo and Vinny are givens, Don and Francisco probably won’t be back on a short week. So that’s 4 other spots.

Addai got bent up awkwardly a couple times. Bullitt, Powers, Foster and Lacey all went down at some point. CJ, and Diem missed practice time. Mathis wasn’t a big presence against a backup RT with the quad injury.

I’ll say 5 (Counting Gonzo and Vinny, but not Don)

Right. They have to play *some* people

I mean, the roster’s only 45 people, so some starters will be out there. So it’s not like you can bench every starter there is.

Still, though, on a short week, against a team that takes after their coach (“firery”, to use a charitable term), let some of the 3rd stringers and below earn their keep. Sign up some free agents, and let them play. Just keep the rest of the team healthy.

OK guys,

I’ve got 2 finals tomorrow and a final early Tuesday morning that I’m not near ready for (I hate Bio and Chem exams). So, I need to study more today, and I can guarantee that I’ll be too tired to stay up late tonight to study. So, that means that I need to cut myself from the open threads today and study instead. I’ll still have the games on, but have slides with polymers and gene expression on my computer instead of the open thread. I’ll also be absent during the Monday night game due both to my Math exam from 7-9 and the fact it’s the last chance for me to study for my Chem exam.

So, long story short, I’m leaving the interwebz, and you won’t see me again until some time on Tuesday. As my parting gift, I want to make sure that you celebrate all of these records the Colts set. So, I leave you with these:

When the Colts run a rub route, the announcers act as if they should be executed for violating the sanctity of the game.

When some other team (Cowboys, Chargers, Patriots) run a rub route, the announcer has to change his panties after he gets over his excitement for the play call.

Fuck off, people. By the way, the Colts set an all time record for consecutive wins, today, thanks for the Dickless Enberg Dan Fouts shitburger.

I listened to the radio broadcast from a computer stream...

while trying to keep it synced with the tv picture with no volume with the DVR. I can’t, and won’t go back to the tv announcers.

Go Colts!

i may have to do that

but i now convinced that this is just some anti-colts bullshit. Not one #1 announcing team all year, despite the fact that we’ve played big games galore and are, ya know, undefeated.

And this does affect me, because i get games in HD based on ‘goodness’ of the game, as decided by the networks, so I’ve been forced to watch the colts in SD a few times this year.

Again, fuck the MSM.

I think CBS's #2 is

Gumbel and Dierdorf, and I know we’ve gotten those guys at least twice this year, maybe more.

that was a really nicely run pick play by Garçon

a couple weeks ago he throws a shoulder into the LB and draws a OPI flag. Now he’s learning and sold it as a curl really well. Came back to right where he’d be in the LBs path, stuck his hands out for a pass that wasn’t going to come and let the LB run into his shoulder.

Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.

It's shocking how much can slip your perception

Didn't notice that.

That’s great that he can do that now. Nobody look, but Garcon is improving…….

so looks like its gonna be

Colts
Chargers
Bengals
Cluster Fuck
Broncos
Loser of the Cluster Fuck

I guess we want the Broncos to beat Cluster fuck, the Bengals to beat Loser of the Cluster Fuck, then we’ll play the Broncos again (kinda scary after the second half), and the Chargers and Bengals will rematch… And then the Bengals will pull off the upset, and we’ll have Colts and Bengals for the SB!

Colts win!

And I break my Colts home game watched in person curse. Woo.

by diagenesis on Dec 13, 2009 7:40 PM EST reply actions

It is. I'm horribly unlucky.

My brother and dad went ahead while I waited outside for a friend who was running late from the hospital, so I missed the entire first quarter. As soon as I come in and start watching, we do poorly for the longest time. Thankfully, we still won. :)

Peyton's final drive broke your
