It Appears as if the Colts are Going to Go All Out

Well at least with those that are healthy. Here is what Johnny O quoted Polian on:

"It's only about who's healthy," he said. "Today was the most important game from the standpoint of this year's race — that's over. Today was the most important game if you want to talk about history, because it achieved two historic milestones. That's it. What more is there to do?

"You do what you think is best, but I think that's moot. I don't think it goes beyond who's healthy."

I think this is the right decisio. My interpretation of "rest" was to only sit the players who are nicked or injured, not the healthy ones. I think the only time the Colts should take a little more precaution* with healthy starters is week 17, where the Colts face there last opponent, Buffalo

*- what I mean by precaution, is to limit the play time to about one half or if the Colts are 15-0, then try to put up as many points as possible to sit the Starters early

Slight problem though, who on our starting lineup IS healthy?

true

I personally don’t like resting players. Hasn’t worked in the past, why would it work now?

Wrong

It has worked in the past, just not the two years you want to remember.

I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation

Worked in 04

also. In 2005, we were 13-0 when we entered the SD game, having clinched everything. Manning and co played the entire game, while all the “questionable” players saw limited action. That’s my guess as what we’ll see for the next two games, assuming we win in Jacksonville.

Bye week

It worked best in years where we didn’t have a bye week. The Colts have been sluggish coming out of bye weeks for a few years now, especially in the playoffs. I would like to see starters getting the majority of playing time for the rest of the season until week 17, but they should still get a couple of series that game also.

I think resting Manning for more than one half of each game would be a mistake because he is getting a little too inconsistent the past few weeks (lot of missed passes and INTs) so I would like to see him get more time to refine this thing…

At this rate we'll be playing half the waver wire if we try to rest players.

We’re just too thin at too many spots. Hell, when have we had a full strength D this season. As for guys like Addai and Manning, Joe should have plenty in the tank, and Peyton doesn’t have a proven backup. I say, play everyone as long as the game is close, and just rotate players in and out a little more often. Use this time to tinker with formations and player combinations.

im pretty sure NOW FOR SURE that weer gonna go for 16-0 why because peyton wants that mvp and if he starts resting and stuff he wont get it and well besides manning wanting the mvp we want it for him too

Resting players is a good call

but that doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t get 16-0. It’s the dumpster fires, the Sanchize, and the Bills. I gotta think that we could win all those games with our second-stringers.

How many superbowl winners really stand out

over the years? The Dolphins, that’s who, because they won every game. Not all superbowl winners had the luxury to compete for undefeated seasons because they lost some games along the way. The Colts truly have a shot a making history and doing something no other team has done…..go 19-0. It would make up for some of the other years they didn’t make it and cement their place as the best ever. I think it would be incredibly sad and shameful if they’re not given the chance to do this amazing feat.

some of our players NEED rest.

i think we should take the next two weeks to get some of our injured healthy again, come back wk 17 and plug everyone back in. a good week of practice during our bye week, and we still have momentum going into our first playoff game.

hopefully he is wrong as usual...
According to SI.com’s Peter King, the Colts will “almost certainly begin the process of resting their veterans Thursday night at Jacksonville.”

King did suggest that “nicked” pass rushers Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis are the prime candidates for rest. The Colts offensive stars will almost certainly play at least a half this week, though they could be further limited the following week. History suggests Peyton Manning will play just one series in Week 17.

Peyton-Play. If he has too much time off, it messes with his timing.

His overall stats are good this year, but he is getting more and more inconsistent lately and throwing a lot of INTs too. Say what you want about whether an INT is his fault, but the bottom line is that he is throwing them. I have also noticed that he is missing guys more lately and they still have room for improvement.

I don’t see the need to rest Peyton for more than a half of each of the final 3 games. Week 17 is different, but this week and next week should still be “normal” weeks, he should play into the 3rd quarter so they can continue to work on situational football.

The majority of the players who need to rest are defensive players

The entire defensive starting lineup has not even played one snap this season, yet the Colts defense is in the top three in scoring. After the hits Bullitt, Powers, and few others took yesterday along with the injuries to Mathis and Freeney; most of the defense needs to sit on the bench in the last two games of the year to let their bodies heal as much as possible.

As for the offense, I really want Addai to rest since that Williams guy and the other Donkeys’ defensive backs were literally trying to rip his head off!! However, when Addai isn’t out there, the offense looks like crap and Peyton needs Joe’s excellent blocking for protection. So if Addai sits, Peyton sits as well, but Peyton still needs to keep his timing with the youngsters. In my opinion, it looks like the only dilemma for resting players on offense revolves around Addai’s condition.

Peyton Manning makes it Wayne on them hoes!!!!

Peyton had an interesting quote

I can’t find a transcript of his postgame interview but I distinctly remember him saying something about the decision to rest or not rest players and how it’s nobody else’s business. He said it’s a coach’s decision but that he didn’t agree with how that decision has been telegraphed to other teams in past years.

Very unusual bit of criticism for Dungy coming from Peyton. I’m starting to think the Colts might actually go for 16-0.

I also remember that quote,

Peyton said it was also none of Jacksonville’s business.

dont rest starters

i think resting starters is a bad idea. and peyton is a prefectionist. i think deep down he wants to beat the patriots record and do something brady hasnt done. go 19-0. i think saints will face vikings nfc championship game and lose. and colts will face the chargers. and this time we will beat the chargers. our defense will come through for us.

go colts!!!

by Enigmatic23 on Dec 14, 2009 6:18 PM EST reply actions

Of course Peyton wants to go for it all

That’s my bet at least. 19-0 is a chance a being immortal. Imagine the Colts going 17-2 and winning the superbowl this year. Alright, great. It’s hard to complain about a superbowl win. But, in the larger scope of things, years from now, the Colts would be just another team who won 2 or 3 superbowls, good, but doesn’t stand out. If they were the only team to go 19-0, they would be able to say for the rest of their lives that they were the BEST EVER! Let me repeat that…..BEST EVER! They should be smart about this, but go for it with all their guns. It’s difficult to imagine that this is even a debate.
