Around SBN: The Gift Of The 2003 Tigers

One of the Unknowns.

Little did he know while attending  Parkdale High School in Riverdale, Maryland that some day he would soon be a disturbing force in the middle of one the most passionate D-lines in Indianapolis Colts history. After a college career at Kent State where he ranked third in school history in sacks with 14.5 he ultimately went undrafted. A diamond in the rough. Signed by the Packers as a free agent in 2007 he played in only 3 games recording 8 tackles, four of them solo. Ultimately he was waived by the Packers before the start of the 2008 season. His career though had only just begun.

The Colts snapped him up to add depth to a small defensive tackle rotation. He played in 6 games in the 2008 season registering only 3 tackles and 1 pass defensed. Not exactly stunning stats. Muir was moved up and down from the practice squad occasionally but must have shown very positive signs of improvement for what was going to happen next.

The offseason came and went. Preseason had arrived. Daniel Muir played limited time in preseason starting 3 out of 4 games. He registered 4 solo tackles and 5 assisted tackles. Still he remained in the rotation.

The Colts started the regular season with 5 wins before their bye week. Muir did not start any of them. This was mainly in part to Ed Johnson (which is definitely another fan post for another time).  Ed was released and Muir became the starter coming out of the bye week. Since then he has had great games against St Louis, Baltimore and Denver. More important than stats though is his presence in the middle. Just him being there and letting the opposing team know that this defensive tackle is no push over is what this Colts team has needed. Our rush defense is 18th in the league in yards allowed (110.4). Muir is a big part of that. Muir surely won't break any tackling records. He might not even make a pro bowl. He is working towards the main goal like every Colt. The Super Bowl.

So his stats are good, not great. Some will say he's an above average defensive tackle. But the one thing the Colts do like about him is that he has the Colts attitude. Colts attitude= Classy on the field and Classy off the field. A recent article on Colts.com that can be found here shows how classy he really is. Reaching out to homeless teens and helping those who are less fortunate than himself shows that he does in fact belong to the Indianapolis Colts.

Daniel Muir along with the other great veterans and rookies on our defense have turned our defense into something to be feared. Heres to winning the Super Bowl on both sides of the ball. I'm so psyched for the playoffs.

Go Colts!!!!

I like your quote about our Defense being something to be feared.

Man, this is a tough crowd.

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.
