Trying to win vs the Jaguars means the Colts are quitely going for 19-0

Im making this fanpost off a comment i made in the BBS post about coach Caldwell interview ,where he says the healthy  starters will play on thrusday, i want to know what you guys think of my logic about this.

What i was thinking earlier this week was that if the Colts were going to give up on the perfect season it will make lots of sense it will be in the jaguars game, short week on the road and many hurting players , now this tells me they are going for it but just dont want a media circus by openly saying so, what they say to the media(and opposition) is not what they say in the locker-room.

why not hang it on a short week on the road?

After this game Colts will have 10 days til the jets at home, yes the13 wins in a row streak HOME.

will you be hanging the perfect season in your home turf in front of your fans?

dont think so and then after 15-0 it will make going for 19-0 a priority.

So im going to say it , If we win the jaguars game the Colts will go for the 19-0 perfect season.

note: please dont talk about going 16-0, if you are going to refer to this about the Colts please say 19-0

I would disagree with this post

I don’t think the Colts were ever not “going for it.” This team goes into every regular and post-season game intent on winning. Where this post, and the issue of going for a perfect season, is muddled from the Colts perspective involves whether rest players with ailing injuries to have them as healthy as possible heading into the post-season.

Will the Colts play battered players with lingering health issues, who would dress if the final 3 games were playoff games? No. Does that indicate that we will not be “going for” the perfect season? No. It indicates that this team’s priority is on post-season success and not regular season records. In other words, of course we will play every remaining game to win it but we will not risk our chances to play well and at full strength in the playoffs in our effort to do so.

The next man up philosophy will be in full effect over the next three games and those players will be asked to play as hard as we have played in every game this season. Starters or key players who do not have health issues will be asked to play as well, of course, but do not be surprised if they only play at key points in the game or take limited snaps (however that works out).

So, I do not think the Colts have ever indicated, suggested, or planned on hanging any of our games. That would be playing to lose, and this team does not equate allowing key players to get healthy with tossing games. Others will be asked to step up, the game plan will be the same, aggressive, with every intention on winning. Whether our back-ups and fill-ins are able to do the job, that is what we will have to find out.

agreed.

The Colts aren’t going for 19-0, but they are trying to win this game. The only issue is who plays and who doesn’t.

The significant decision is that healthy, important starters (e.g. Manning, Wayne) will play the whole game as usual. The other option would be to pull them after a half, a series, etc. for players like Painter and Baskett.

The suggestion on this site that Freeney will only play 3rd downs is interesting. If we take Caldwell’s announcement at face value, Freeney will play like it’s a normal game. Only playing him on 3rd downs might be smart though. These are tough decisions. A decision like that demonstrates that it’s not as simple as a choice between “try to win” and “don’t try to win.” There’s a whole spectrum of choices you can make with each player. I don’t envy the coaches at this point.

My point was

that i and i will think many others, had the perception prior to this statement by Caldwell that the Colts were planning on resting starters really injured or not, like say having Manning for a series or two to prevent injury and expecting an unusual multiple key position backups to win a game is not playing to win IMHO.

Now playing starters and resting the injured is a change on what was being perceived by previous Polian and Caldwell statements on the issue.

This is it , i thought that they were not do what it takes to try to win this one.

No way im going to be convinced that playing Manning, Wayne and other key starters for 1 quarter is playing to win, playing to win is putting your best players on the field.

Now i know that resting the injured is priority and im ok with it, Saints are doing the same they just need the mental motivation of openly saying their going for it.

But if the Colts play Manning until we have secured the win ,now that’s playing to win and that was not expected by anyone.

My point was that if your going to rest key players to prevent injury(Hang it) why not doing it in this game , short week on the road?

Whats the point of playing this one to win and risk injury and not the next one @ HOME?

Saints are better than the Colts

If the Colts don’t go for a perfect season I am no longer a fan. And I have been a Colts fan for 15 years. I’m not just talking about playing healthy starters, but also starters who are injured but might be able to play if this were an important game. Why do I say this? It would be fuking boring watching scrubs play. I don’t pay a ton of money for tickets to watch scrubs play. The NFL is in the ENTERTAINMENT business. There is nothing entertaining about watching scrubs lose. People will say that the rest of the regular season games aren’t “meaningful.” In fact, they are only as meaningful as you decide it to be. Go for the perfect season. Even if they lose in the playoffs at least they went for it. At least it will be entertaining. If they decide to hang it up then the Saints will always be the more entertaining team to me, even if the Colts do win the Superbowl this year after resting their starters during the last couple regular season games.

you sir, are an idiot

Or perhaps you are just a MSM drone who is just so starved for a story that you will lower yourself to the level of a Violet Beauregarde who defies all logic and simply whines “I want it and I want it now!!!” even though the thing she wants isn’t all that big a deal and ultimately costs her the chance at something better.

We don’t need fans like you.

The Bills game is the one that worries me

Outside in the cold in January in upstate NY? Unless we get lucky with the weather, that would be a really easy game to get hurt in. But if we’re 15-0, it’ll be hard not to go for it.
