Week 15: Tuesday Injury Report

First actual report of the week. Everyone that the Colts estimated would have practiced yesterday practiced today, so expect them to go.

"Back" at Practice: Joseph Addai, Gary Brackett, Raheem Brock, Melvin Bullitt, Keyunta Dawson, Kyle DeVan, Ryan Diem, Pierre Garcon, Kelvin Hayden, Tim Jennings, Jacob Lacey, Peyton Manning, Daniel Muir, Jamey Richard, Tom Santi, Clint Session, Chad Simpson, Tony Ugoh, Reggie Wayne

Still Out:  Antoine Bethea (foot), Donald Brown (chest), Eric Foster (back), Aaron Francisco (ankle), Dwight Freeney (abdomen), Anthony Gonzalez (knee), Charlie Johnson (foot), Robert Mathis (quad), Jerraud Powers (Hammy), Adam Vinatieri (knee).

Personally I expect most, if not all the guys that missed today to sit, and everyone that practiced today to go.

The big difference b/w last week and this week will be

Bethea, Powers, Freeney, Mathis, and Johnson.

I think Ugoh will be fine as a replacement seeing the Jaguars don’t really have a scary pass rush to defend against.

The defense will miss all those four starters, but the back ups are good enough to keep us in the game.

I like our chances.

but but but

the Jags spent 1st and 2nd round picks in 08 on DEs to pressure Peyton, of course their pass rush is great….

ugh, i’m already dreading the colts defense is overrated articles to follow this game. Look they gave up 300+ yards to the Jaguars while playing their starters.

Of course, they’ll forget to mention that we didn’t have Freeney, Mathis, Bethea, Powers, etc.

by sandsnake on Dec 15, 2009 6:24 PM EST up reply actions

We won a lot of games with Ugoh

I don’t mind him being in there.

I would like to see Donald Brown get healthy. I was really excited about him this year, but the season seems like a wash. But it is really fun to see Mike Hart, the Rudy of the NFL, get on the field.

hi, newcomer to the blog here

excited for another win at jax this weekend.
How much do you guys think reggie wayne will play this week?

practiced today

and he’s had the foot injury for a while and never missed PT

First Half?

I expect him and Clark to be limited. Put Hank Baskett/Santi out there and let them get some reps with Peyton in game situations. It could come in handy in January.

I expect a full game from them

unless it’s really out of hand (and I don’t quite see that happening)

With a beat up jags

secondary, I would think this would be a good game for reggie to put up the #s he hasn’t been able to get for the past month. I think we’ll see him most of the game, as long as he’s good to go…

by naptown_ninja on Dec 16, 2009 8:28 AM EST up reply actions

Good Enough

I think that lineup will work out. Powers, Bethea, Freeney and Mathis are definitely losses, but Session and Bracket will hold things down. Plus, Hayden looks more and more comfortable each week.

For some reason, I’m as excited about this game as I have been all season. Maybe it’s the memories of Peyton last year playing the Kitties on Thursday night football.

It's because

The Saints are going to have to go all out to get to 16-0 and it looks like it could just end up happening for the Colts.

I really don’t think Mathis will play and Freeney probably will play a limited amount of plays, more than likely 3rd downs.

Jags injury report

For those who are interested: http://www.jaguars.com/News/InjuryReport.aspx

They look really healthy going into this game, although Rashean Mathis was limited in practice due to a “grion” injury.

Mathis?

It looks like the receivers better have their rape whistles handy. We all know the refs won’t blow their normal ones when Mathis is out there. I hate Rashean Mathis so much for costing the Colts the #1 seed last year.

i said yesterday i thought this would be his first attempted rape

in a few weeks, when they cut brian williams. I dont know what it is about mathis, but the refs love him. maybe he gives em the high hard one. The one last year was bad, but its every year, and its never close. He’s a horrid corner that gets killed by double moves, but saved by refs. he’s Asante Samuel, without the skill.

I wish Mathis and Tim Jennings would take the same long walk off the same short pier.

Never doubt Peyton Manning, he’ll make you look silly

Really good news

Hey, this is about the same lineup that got the #2 seed in 2007. I think they can handle the Dumpster Fires, the Sancherceptions, and the Canucks.

Nothing too shocking there

I’m guessing guys like Mathis, Powers, and Bethea could go Thurs., and probably want to (Powers said on his FB fan page that was linked earlier by someone that he was just nicked up, nothing serious), but I’m guessing most will be held out to be safe. I doubt we see many significant starters play too much the rest of the regular season if they are not 100%, and despite that Mike Ditka says “shame on them” for anyone who doesn’t pursue 16-0, getting healthy for the postseason is more important.

With that said, Gonzo, Vinny, and Brown need to be practicing for week 16, I think. If we truly plan on using Gonzo and Viniatieri again, I’d prefer they get a few warm up games in before the playoffs (as in, no repeat of ‘07 Marvin). I don’t want to see them get thrown in the fire right away in round 1, and see Gonzo drop an easy pass, miss a route, or fumble; or Vinny shank a couple of field goals that could be critical. They’re too good of players to force them into the oven like that. If they don’t play wk 16 or 17, I’m gonna scratch my head a little bit as to what the plan is with them.

Regarding Brown, I was very critical of BBS’s recent post where he claimed a first round RB should be a star out of the gate or he is trash, and I stand by my criticism 100%, but I’m seriously starting to get frustrated over what is going on with our rookie (probably about 1/100th the frustration Brown himself is feeling, so I’m not going to bash the guy for being hurt). He’s missed quite a few games and I’m not sure how severe “chest” injuries are since I’ve never had one, but he was drafted to be a weapon, and if he doesn’t get some serious reps in soon, I’m not sure how much he can contribute. I know he is a great player, but it was frustrating watch Beanie Wells last night look excellent (aside from the fumble, but who didn’t fumble on that team?) and he was picked one spot after DB.

I wonder

if Brown has a heart condition that was cleverly hidden during pre-draft examinations. Is that paranoid to think? I just remember him saying when he got hurt that it was a nagging injury from college that he knew how to manage because he was a kinesiology major. At the time he seemed like he’d be back in a day or two. Now it seems quite odd that all they list is “chest” injury.

@lefpsyd

by lefpsyd on Dec 16, 2009 1:05 AM EST up reply actions

A little paranoid

The injury you are referring to when Brown said he had it in college and knew how to handle it was a shoulder injury that he sustained against the Rams. That was the game he had 2 carries for 58 yards, so it was a shame he had to come out, because he was in for a 100+ yard game.

This one’s a chest injury, and team doctor’s will catch that during pre-draft physicals. If he had a heart condition, I’m no doctor but I’d say that would be very dangerous for him to play the sport at all. So I’d say you can relax a bit and chalk your suspicion up to paranoia.

So if, and I mean, if Bethea is a no go

Then who gets the start at FS, Silva? Why can’t Marlin come back :-( we need some depth at S. He looked like he’s feeling fine last time I saw him. Damn IR, I wish it was like Baseball’s DL.

I was hoping they would sign a CB this week

Keiwan Ratliff was sounding so good to me, but they didn’t, which probably means that the CBs on the roster are more than likely going to play this week. At least Hayden and Lacey should go. Jennings can get some time in the nickel and Powers sounds optimistic that he will get some time as well.

As for Bethea, PLEASE play unless you are just too hurt!! I don’t feel comfortable with Silva playing for an extended period.

I think that we should IR Adam and ...

sign Dominic Rhodes now.. we need to rest Addai and figure out Donald Brown he’s been hurt way too long ,even if he returns im doubtful of his effectiveness, Ratliff and Jeff Garcia are other possibilities.

So to play coach wannabe, i would IR Adam and Brown and sign Dominic and Gracia, during bye if my starters are healthy i would cut Toudouze or Baldwin and sign Ratliff.

by thebossuzzi on Dec 16, 2009 10:03 AM EST reply actions

IR'ing Brown

would be downright stupid unless he needs surgery or something. The guy can provide much more on the ground than Simpson or Hart if he just gets the reps, which I think he will, starting week 16. He can be a home run threat and his involvement keeps Addai fresh. Having him back will give the run game a huge boost and take pressure of Peyton and will give defenses another thing to worry about. I doubt Rhodes, who has been out nearly all season, would provide anything more than Hart or Simpson would, unless he would be returning kicks. You don’t IR guys because they’ve been out a few weeks. His injury is not season ending and he brings a lot to the table. IR’ing him would be insane.

As for AV, I agree he needs to start playing, and his current condition is a mystery. However, Matt Stover, while he has been very effective, I’m not sure he can hit anything outside of 40 yards. I believe a healthy AV still can. Obviously, we plan on using him otherwise he would have been IR’d by now.

Signing Jeff Garcia would make little sense and IR’ing Brown or AV to do it is downright insane.

maybe it is stupid

But i feel like Brown wont be able to stay healthy enough to make an impact ,i might be wrong and stupid to think this way but its a feeling , for Rhodes i think it makes all the sense for kick returns and more, AV i think they’re just hopeful but he need to start kicking now it will take him some time to be better than what Stover is or pull the plug now and get what you need on the roster.

Jeff Garcia? what doesnt make sense is a rookie QB with 0 NFL experience as #2 into the playoffs(injuries happen God forbid)

by thebossuzzi on Dec 16, 2009 11:50 AM EST up reply actions

Disagree with Brown

but agree about Nougatieri. He isn’t the most consistent kicker anymore, hasn’t kicked most of this entire season and Stover is a fine replacement. Stover has distance for about 45-48 if necessary (at home at least) and anything over that is go-for-it territory in my book.

I think Brown would have been IR’d already if his injury was bad enough. Since Hart and Simpson are able to give quality minutes for Addai, rushing Brown back into the lineup isn’t a priority right now. Brown still has the best big play potential of any of these RBs and I think he will be back for either Jets or Buffalo game.
