Week 15: Wednesday (Final) Injury Report
Finally we get a really look at who will be sitting Thursday Night.
Out: Donald Brown, Aaron Francisco, Anthony Gonzalez, Jerraud Powers, Adam Vinatieri
Questionable (practices): Eric Foster (1), Dwight Freeney (0), Charlie Johnson (0), Robert Mathis (0)
That's 9 players total in doubt, 8 who didn't practice at all. It's a pretty solid bet that those 8 will be your inactives.
Probable: Joseph Addai, Antoine Bethea, Gary Brackett, Melvin Bullitt, Keyunta Dawson, Kyle DeVan, Ryan Diem, Pierre Garcon, Kelvin Hayden, Tim Jennings, Jacob Lacey, Peyton Manning, Daniel Muir, Jamey Richard, Tom Santi, Clint Session, Chad Simpson, Tony Ugoh, Reggie Wayne.

Why isn't it Thursday already?
I’m way too antsy about this game when it means so little in terms of playoff seeding. Thank you for the report, shake
How silly was it to give up Giordano?
I know, he’s not a corner but he was always a solid player in the secondary. And the guy Polian picked up in his place has been a complete non-factor.

he wasn't really that solid at all
and Francisco was an upgrade on ST.
Surely if they knew Francisco would get hurt, they wouldn’t have made that move…
The problem is that we can't
anticipate that kind of thing.

Wow - yeah he was that solid
Especially on ST. What has Francisco ever done?

He's been injured
what can he do?

at least Giordano could play
and I think he was pretty solid too.

Dumping Giordiano was a dumb move
I said it then and I’ve been saying it since. Re todd ed.
We should fire Polian now!

he was fast
he couldn’t tackle worth a damn and wasn’t useful at all as a safety. If he was, they would’ve kept him.
+10000
His only use was running down return men that had already blown it wide open, streaking down the sidelines (see: Devin Hester). Now that we actually have good special teams coverage units, Gio is no longer needed.

He couldn't tackle?

Giordiano could tackle
and if you weren’t a classmate of Helen Keller, you would know that is the TRUTH.
I believe Helen Keller
was home schooled and wasn’t involved in any sort of class room environment, therefore i find it hard to believe that shake, or anyone else, would have been a classmate of Helen Keller.

i actually think
freeney will play on a limited basis as long as theres no risk of further injury. He’ll have 10 days to rest afterwards, and I think that, barring major injury tomorrow night, we’ll be close to 100% for the jets.

If Gonzo and Brown don't go against the Jets,
I don’t think we see them ’til next season.

agree on gonzo, disagree on Brown. Its a different injury from before, he’s just getting banged up every time he plays.

The problem is that I'm not seeing
any improvement from Brown. I’m hearing nothing from coaches or Polian that Brown is getting any better. I’m looking for some hope, but I’m not finding any.

i aint sellin hope
just opinion, but if he were seriously injured, he’d have been IRed, especially given the way Hart and Simpson have played the past couple of weeks. Same with Gonzo. The one player I wish was IRed was AV. He and Stover are pretty much the same person, neither has 50 yard range, unless all of this surgery/rehab is going to make him kick like he’s 25 again.
Anyhow, i think we’ll all be very happy with the Jets injury report, barring, again, major injury tomorrow.

Disagree
AV has had 55+ range during warmups in the past few years. Indoor kicking is usually pretty damn easy, even for old guys.
That said, I actually like having a kicker without much leg. It forces the offense to be more aggressive in the 25-40 yard line range.
this isnt meant to be as argumentative as it sounds, but I dont care about his warmup range. He’s been pretty shaky from longer distances the past couple of years. Im fine with Stover, I hate wasting 2 spots on kickers. In a perfect world, Id rather have McAfee Punt, Pass, and Kick (minus the Pass), and only need 1 roster spot for the whole bleepin thing.
Never doubt Peyton Manning, he’ll make you look silly
Joseph Addai is a good running back.

I still want to see McAfee
kick a FG. The question is who will hold for the FG?

true
Though if anyone can be counted on to be accurate in a real game at a distance his leg is good for, it’s Vinny.
But I agree. I hate wasted roster spots. Right now, all these people are hurting yet we can’t replace them because we’ve got slots tied up for an extra kicker, a goddamn long snapper (I will always hate that this is necessary) and two guys who might not ever see the field again.
Justin Snow is one of the best
in the league, so I have no problems with him as long snapper.

how the hell would you (or anyone, myself included) know?
there aren’t really stats for LS. I like that he gets downfield in coverage and hasn’t snapped a safety yet, but in reality, they’re all the same except for the bad ones. What annoys me is that the position is necessary. I will never understand why a center, backup center, or for that matter, any random backup can’t be taught to be the long snapper, allowing another roster spot to be used.
Long snapping
is an art in and of itself. You’re throwing a perfect spiral with two hands, between your legs, accurately to the punter (or FG holder’s) hands, from 15 yards away, in less than .75 seconds. I was a snapper for 4 years in HS. Our regular center couldn’t snap for squat because it’s not remotely the same as chucking it back there from the shotgun. Honestly, I think backup QB’s would make better snappers than lineman. Ever notice how small Snow is, or wonder why he’s #48? I wouldn’t be surprised to learn he’s our super-emergency, God forbid, nuclear fall-out plan QB…..
he's officially a tight end
and he got a pass thrown to him once. He dropped it.

This is true.
I loved that 4th and 4 call at the around 33 yard line. With Vinny, they’ll probably kick the FG. I want 7 in that situation.

And stopping Peyton on 4 downs is basically impossible
When was the last time anyone ever stopped P-money on fourth downs?
it was fairly recently, wasn't it?
but yeah, this offense is too good to ever be kicking (FG or punt) on 4th and short in opposition territory. Especially if they decide on 1st down that they’re going to play all 4 – that changes the playcalling and increases the chances of success, knowing then that they’ll still have 4th down.
i dont know if this is slash's point
but I think our offense would actually look different if they sat down and said, "OK, every time we cross the 50, its 4 down territory’. I think THAT would be hard to stop, because I think we’d be a lot more aggressive in certain situations.
Never doubt Peyton Manning, he’ll make you look silly

Look at it this way
We don’t exactly NEED Brown right now. We have everything locked for the playoffs, Addai has been running great, and Hart and Simpson have been solid backups. If Brown is not 100%, why push him out there in a meaningless road game if he is still banged up a bit? Polian has said little about his status, but that is probably because it is a non-issue. If Brown sustained a serious injury, I think he would discuss it, but for something that seems to be just nagging him, it doesn’t really warrant a whole lot of attention.
There is a week and two days between Thursday and the Jets game, so there is plenty of time to get rested. Unless you actually work for the team and have inside knowledge, I don’t see how you could or could not see improvement from Brown anyway. I am fairly confident he will play against NY.
"A lot of times, Kenny, we have no idea what we're doing. But the DEFENSE doesn't know that we don't know what we're doing.....and that's next level." -Peyton Manning
Sorry about not being clear.
What I meant about not seeing improvement is I’m not hearing Polian or any of the coaches say that he’s improving, while I’m hearing that about Gonzo. I don’t claim to have any inside info. Just my opinion.

A couple thoughts:
1. This game doesn’t mean anything, so I completely agree with sitting out Johnson, Powers, Mathis, and Freeney. They are clearly the most injured, and they need the rest.
2. I’m interested to see how our defense fares without Freeney, Mathis, and Powers. They are 3 very important players on our D, and I’m curious on what it looks like without them.
3. The Jags are primarily a running offense, so we might still be able to stuff them without a pass rush.
4. If Ugoh get Peyton killed, I reserve the right to hunt him down.
5. Good to see that Addai, Bullitt, and Clark aren’t seriously injured. I was worried about that.
6. These guys are going to enjoy their 2 week nap before the Jets.
7. Because we’re almost at full strength on offense Thursday, I still think the Colts will win.

I dont see Ugoh letting the Jags get to Peyton
very little or any. Why? Well because he faced a better DE in Vande Bosch and didn’t do too bad, and secondly, the Jags don’t have a pass rush either. So all should be good with Ugoh.
knock on wood
Bob Sanders does not play Hide-and-Seek, He plays HIDE and PRAY-HE-DOES-NOT FIND-YOU!
good thoughts
2 – I think it’ll look like a lot of sustained drives with short passes and lots of 3rd down conversions to seams in the zone or Jennings’s guy. But this won’t be devastating since the guys who play the run will still be the usual suspects and that’ll be most important. So it’ll be frustrating and a lot of TOP for them, but not anything the Colts can’t beat. In other words, it’ll be a game similar to every game in November.
3- exactly. They’ll end up with a high completion percentage but they don’t have the type of offense that’ll make big plays
7 – me too. It’ll just be annoyingly close.
At least we have Hayden back. So it’s not going to be Jennings and Lacey with god knows who as the nickel corner.
I think we’ll see a lot more Moala than we have so far too.
It would be Rushing.
The thought sort of scares me.

Good points
I’m a little antsy because it’s a division game. Ugoh has looked better the past couple weeks than he ever has. Addai Bullit and Clark got hammered last week. I bet we don’t see those guys for more than 3 quarters, if we’ve already got the lead. Reggie Wayne should have a big night. Defensively With Keyunta Dawson back in the rotation, and Fili Moala improving, our d-line looks even more stout. We might even get a little inside pass rush for the first time ever. Colts win by 10 or more.

I'm not antsy about the game.
The only thing I will get antsy about the game is with injuries. I’ve already emotionally detached myself from the team to where I don’t really care about the result as long as there are no injuries.

I think Peyton will
Destroy the Jags awful defense. Like, no mercy first half. I think that they will go for the kill early so they can rest and we can see Curtis Painter. The Jags don’t have an offense either. They do not deserve to make the playoffs at all. I think that they are a bad team. Am I overlooking them? Yes, but I’m also not part of the Colts organization so it really doesn’t matter.
"Brett Favre was a man who thought he was retired, but he knew it wouldn't last."
I think they're bad too
but they could be 2-14 and still give the Colts a game. Plus they’re going to be amped up as ever since it’s their only sellout and they’re basically playing to keep the franchise in Jacksonville. Then again, maybe the players would prefer to move anyway. Hmm…
i expect any starters that aren't in risk of hurting themselves more playing most of the game with those that are questionable
but play mathis, freeney, foster, johnson and others to play only a half or 3 quarters

Manning
I expect Manning to play the entire game. If the Colts are up big, he might get pulled in the 4th quarter, but I think it will be a close enough game (within 14 pts) so he will finish the game.

I wish him the best though.

Bringing Pressure
Assuming that Freeney and Mathis both sit out, what does everyone think Coyer will do to drum up some pressure? We should stay pretty solid against the run, but if Garrard has all day to stand back there and throw the ball, without our best cover corner (Powers, IMO) out there, we might be in for another game just like last year.
I’m hoping the offense is clicking from start to finish this time, so we don’t need a late game comeback to grab the win.
I don't always drink beer....but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.
i think freeney will play some passing downs
and i think there will be pressure maybe up the middle and our backup DEs should do good against the jags
and Peyton should torch them anyways
they have lil pass rush if any and this game is not going to be close like the first one their secondary is worst ,their pass rush is worse and our offence is better with the growth of garcon and collie , and most important i think we will see an angry Wayne his productions this past month is really low, i dont think he even has a game over 60 yards in the last 3 or 4, something tells me he will want the ball.
I think you're being a little
too overconfident. Win or lose, I’m not expecting a blowout here. They’re a divisional rival, and we’re not near full-strength.
