Problem with Momentum? (Attention Bill Polian)
I've got a novel idea that can keep the starters fresh, work on play in the clutch, get to 16-0, and keep momentum. Instead of playing the starters in the first half, play them in the second half. Here's why...
1) As we've seen this year, moreso than any other, we play REALLY REALLY well from behind.
2) Since we will most likely be behind in the second half, our backs will be against the wall from the first real snap.
3) We run ONLY the 2 minute offense...all the time....hello clutch
4) The other team will be tired, at least to a certain extent. Since our 2nd string is probably better than them anyways (just sayin...)
5) Use it as additional audition time for new players from week to week. Also, they will most likely be playing against first stringers instead of what happens in preseason, where noone learns anything about anyone. And finally, how many undrafted players to do we have on the team as it is, right. This could be a gold mine for next year!
6) Complete and utter demoralization of the remaining schedule..."hey we were up by 21pts at the half, what happened??"
Thoughts?

I would prefer
Sitting random guys out on a rotation over the course of the next 4 weeks so they can rest up but we still have a quality product on the field that can win one game at a time. This way, the players that rested next week will still feel more fresh and can play out the rest of the season (only 3 more games) and will have another week off during the bye week if we secure the #1 or #2 seed.
Every important player won’t be coming off more than 1 week’s rest at a time so the chances of being rusty are reduced.
It’s kind of like working out or running….if you work out, or if you run on a regular basis but you take a couple days off to rest your body after a hard workout, that’s fine. But if you take 2-3 weeks off from running then it is a lot harder to jump right back into it without feeling sore again the next day. Of course I am a lazy SOB so I do neither of those things but it is the closest thing I can think of to relate this to.
Bottom line is, the team can rest players while still maintaining the edge that they will need when the playoffs come around. We will likely be playing a really good team, possibly the Pats again, and I don’t think getting off to a rocky start is going to result in another dynamic comeback when the stakes are so high.
AFC South champs .... again.
