Thoughts/Facts on Manning and the MVP Race

Okay. Some quick notes on the MVP race. Some things i want to get off my chest and see what you guys see.

-As someone on SB mentioned, if you count Fumbles, Drew Brees has more Turnovers than Peyton. Hmm. Nobody points this out. But ok w/e everyone still says brees takes better care of the ball

-(in my Saint-Hate mindset) I cannot understand why so many analysts say that Brees not only beats Manning in stats, but in performance off the stat book as well(such as motivation, etc.) Okay, first of all, Hell no. In the stat book theyre almost identical, so yeah thats dumb to say.. and 2. Off stat book play? WTF. Umm, who has 7 4th quarter comebacks? Ahem, who plays better in the clutch, ahem, and finally, who wins games, not gets them handed(more on this later).

-Why does everyone Mention win-loss records all the way through the season, but now that the saints lost and colts didnt, no "analysts" and "experts" mention records anymore.. hmm...

-Why do only few(i must give the few that do credit) "pro's" mention that Manning is working with one of the worst running game's in the NFL, while Brees has several Running Backs who will get him 4-5 yards a carry, and ALL have the potential to break 20 on any given handoff.

-On a bright note, for those who claim Manning has won the MVP, isnt it ironic that for he 2nd straight year he "clinches" the MVP on a away night game, AT jacksonville. Lol Irrronnnyyyy

-The Colts have now won 115 games this decade, this a record that may never be broken.

-Strength of Schedule. Not sure about the exact record, but an earlier post in SB i saw that Indy's opponents have won (if i rememver correctly) about 20-25ish more games. It may not seem liek much, but thats 1.5 wins more per team. Thats the difference between a 9-7 or 7-9 team. thats a big deal. It also means more of INDY's opponents have a legit playoff shot, so they will play extra tough.

-On the topic of Favre, Peterson, Rivers, Brees, and Johnson, the only ones i will be OKAY if manning lost to, is Johnson and Favre. Peterson has allowed himself to be shut down, and he has stepped in Favre's shadow on too many occasions this year. Brees, well i hate Brees as you all know(if youve read any of my posts) Rivers i think is a great player with a great year, and i respect that like Manning he has NO running game, but he has just not shown enough gutsyness in the 4th Q. On Favre, he is a great player, and a good leader. I think he's a Legit candidate, even if his shabby performances in the last few weeks have costed them wins. And CJ, hes a hard worker and 2000 yards is about as amazing as, ehh, 4,900 for a QB. He is great and gains great yards despite often seeing 8 men in the box.

When i said Brees was handed wins earlier, i meant( for example) the Falcons game. There was no clear cut error the Falcons made(not that i remember, i only saw bits and pieces) but Brees faced an average at best team, missing a starting QB and RB and barely won. Ouch. In the redskins game, a retarded defender allowed himself to be stripped, then later they missed a chipshot fieldgoal to put the game away. Later in OT they missed another Field goal to win. Come on, Manning has to have 100+ yard and 1-2 TD 4th quarters for his comebacks. Not to have dumb turnovers and missed shots by the defense. Also, the Cowgirls almost gave another game to Brees by missing a straight away fieldgoal from like 2 feet away. As much as i hate him, if Brees would have scored that TD against Dallas, he would have earned my respect. But until now, he has not shown me he can play in the 4th quarter. He can do great in Quarters 1-3, but not in the 4th. That i cant respect from an MVP candidate, C'mon man!

To close it, i think (obviously) Manning should and will win the MVP, and if the Colts go 16-0 it shouldnt come into question. For those who follow the NBA, its like the 07' MVP race. Dirk Nowitzki won it because he was the best player on the best team.(like Manning) even though other players had Waaay better seasons.

Go Horseshoes! go for 19-0!!

MVP: Whatever, Indy has more important goals.

Peyton is the most dominant player in his league and the Colts are trying to make history. He’s more like Jordan in the 72-10 season, or Kobe breaking through after a break between titles.

All he cares about is winning the Superbowl, Peyton already has 3 MVPs . I don’t think it is a big deal either way, I would much rather get the Superbowl MVP for him.

You’re right that people should mention the fumbles and running game more in the MVP debate though. They could also point out the strength of schedule being tougher for Indy.

Wow. ...wow wow wow

i seriously could agree fully on everything you said. 100% accurate my friend. Strength of Sched, THATS what i was forgetting. Thanks man. Great point.

Ring > MVP.

(my Dad about to place a bet)"Hey Karim who do you like in the Colts Game?" "I dont know dad, Haydens out, so is Gonzalez, Bracket, Sanders, Jackson, and maybe Freeney" Dad-"Is Manning playing?" Me-"Yeah".. "Lets go with Indy"

your right about the superbowl being his number 1 priority, but the mvp is important too, mvp # 4 is more important than his 2nd or 3rd one, noone has ever won it 4 times, and if he does, along with superbowl #2 it would give him a legitimate shot at being considered the greatest of all time,he deserves that, thats why i want the colts going for 16-0, so they have no excuse to not give him the mvp

SoS

For me the easiest reference, but one without an actual winning percentage, is FO’s team efficiency page (http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teameff)

NO’s past schedule currently ranks 29th hardest (3rd easiest!) and future sked is 26th hardest.

Colts have the 9th for past sked and 19th for future.

These are all before the most recent games as this is usually updated on Wednesdays.

Either way, that is a huge gap in SoS.

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

Do you know where

I can get a listing of all the SoS listings? I am having an argument with a dumb ass Titians fan who is STILL bitching about the Colts “cupcake” schedule.

Can you link us to the

argument? I want to see it.

No, but Ill send you what he has sent me
Man, I wish the Titans had this poor excuse of a schedule every year then maybe we would have some long winning streaks too. Colts fans are fickle, can’t wait to see how many jump ship when Manning retires but hey then maybe you’ll be able to get past a round in the playoffs regularly then, since his defense bailed him out the only season they won the whole thing I mean seriously he had 3td & 3int in the whole playoffs including the Superbowl LOL.

Scroll down to the “PastSched” column. That is our SoS according to them, so far.

you ask why

because we’re the colts and it’s us against the world, that can pretty much answer some of those why’s.
and you shouldn’t be ok if manning lost the mvp to someone else, its just as bad if brees or tom won it instead of peyton.
i cant belive you hate brees!!!!! he has never done anything that has been negative to the colts (cept in his chargers days i guess) if there was someone you should be hating it should be rivers, do you have short term memory loss, rivers is great but hes been great at the wrong time, like when he plays the colts.
but other than everything else i really really like the way you put your thoughts together, and MVP means MOST VALUABLE PLAYER, not PWBS PLAYER WITH BETTER STATS, if it was that then brees would have won it last year.

When its all said and done......

You can go with wins or numbers and whatever else and it still comes down to who has the most value to there team. This is an open and shut case for manning! what everyone should be debating is Offensive Player award.
